  4. Impeccable, at times astonishing, technique in the service of easily grasped, seldom challenging ideas. Couple that with an ingratiating and dignified demeanor and yes, broad scale popularity and acceptance will follow. SHOULD follow, actually. Some people like that kind of thing.
  5. Often unfortunate, occasionally fine. But a few times through, at me leisure, is probably enough. Still looking at Farnon, trying to figure out what's what. This Spotify thing is saving me time and money. Apparently I'm a bit late figuring this out.

That would seem like bad production then. You book the time, you book the players, you should have an expectation about what you're going to have. Maybe there were complications the day of the date, but still... Maybe it was Elvin's call. But it just seems weird

Yes. For whatever reason. Made no sense, imo.
  15. The gig paid really well.
  16. That Links record is a trip. Very popular on the blogosphere back when that was a thing. Funny thing is that I can totally relate to the environment that spawned that type of thing. Back in the day when damn near every lounge and hotel lounge had live bands, there was a LOT of that going around. But hardly any of it got recorded for posterity. Regarding Peterick, he also was in the orb of Chase, post Ides. Lounge bands, one more opportunity for a musician to get practical experience gone. Sigh.

  20. Norm Peterson, that's my guy.
  21. It's not a lost masterpiece or anything, but it's an interesting companion to the Verve Songbook records in several ways, not the least of which is a more modern recording technique and sounb. Just checked, and Dream Dancing is on Spotify.
  22. Ella/Porter got a second chance in 1972 on Atlantic, this time with Riddle. Granz must have liked it so much that he reissued it on Pablo! And recorded two more songs in 1978, again with Riddle!
