  1. I like playing free with an underlying cell. A rhythmic idea, a melodic cell/motif, a schematic of who plays where, stuff like that. "Song" playing is not the only way to have some underlying organization, Far from it, actually. Of course, most players (imo) know what they know and only play by looking for a place where it fits. The better (imo, again) way is to use an compositional idea to see how you can make what you know more/different than what you already know. If you get the same results either way, that's on you, not the concept.
  2. "the penny dropped"...what does that mean?
  3. I find that "free" is a better adjective than it is noun. Take care Allen, stay strong, stay sane. Easier said than done, I know.
  4. No rain either.
  5. Is she in with this crowd?
  6. I used to disregard Andy Shppard, but no, having listened to a sort of Carl Bley immersion, it seems that he has become a Charlie rouse to a Carla Bley Monk. This is totally splendid quartet record, Few groups achieve this level of integration.
  7. Indeed it was. 1962 Kraft Music Hall best as I can figure. You mom was a Raelette...er...Ray Charles Singer?
  8. Getz at his loosest.
  9. Don't be surprised if there's the second set inside!!!!
  10. Either way, he was wrong.
  11. Variations on a theme...
  12. maybe it wasn't Stewart...but it was some guy driving through cones "before and after" and he had a thick accent talking about "don't dive donk".
  13. if you have the time, and if it's there...I've already spent too much time unsuccessfully looking for the George Fenneman driving the water car commercial already. You Tube is full of holes in the historical record!
  14. did you ever see the PSA he did about not driving and drinking?
  15. Actually had a family sing-a-long to the "Fil-thy Mc-Nasty" part of the head on a looong vacation drive many years ago. The kids loved it! But they loved "We all live in a can of pork and beans" a lot more, probably because the momentum didn't get broken up by a bunch of solos. Kids, what are you going to do with them?
  16. ok, but whatever "modern reissue" I have has the white, not the orange. when did impulse! switch to the A/AS system for mono/stereo? I've got plenty of stereo impulse! records that have the front slick that can be used as either stereo or mono. They all have the A-xx number on the front/back. I doubt my Alfie is a record club edition, though. No fine print, and it came out of a cutout bin in a Gibson's Discount Center.
  17. Yesterday's Friends - Always Away
  18. Gongs East! is not bad at all.
  19. haha - "reboot", some "code" and a power button, haha.i get it now, it's about these new compruter things, haha.
  20. ok, mine is also mono, a pressing with that original impulse label, and it's always had the white. It's also got black running up just a little less than 2/3 of the spine, for whatever that's worth. You can see the word STEREO tucked under the inside left liner paper.
  21. Tski Teknikoff - The Tstylings of Tski Classic 1966 burrowing tromboning from just enough in front of the Iron Curtain, ably assisted by ill-fated wobbly-tomed altoist Yulbi Tsari.
  22. PayPal is always good, if you have it.
  23. So you have to either flip the record over or swap the cds out?
