  1. This is a pretty good record. I'm playing it more than once, more than twice, more than chicken soup with rice. This is a pretty good record.
  2. I'm thinking no, not even.
  3. Is it "Ice Freezes Red", from a Fats Navarro/Leo Parker Savoy side? Just guessing... I can confirm that #2 is indeed "You Go to My Head' and #7 "Crazy Rhythm", at least the changes.
  4. Everybody should have the opportunity to aspire. Unfortunately, most people aspire to a glorified mediocrity. The people who know better will always be a minority, and those who know better and actually do better, those are the people to treasure. Everybody else just be obfuscational noise.
  5. Clare Fischer!
  6. Rock Of Ages, he was on that one too. The guy did play some music!
  7. After getting legal clearances and paying justly? And then there's packaging/design, stuff like that. How many $30+$50 LPs (the going rate these days, it seems?) would you have to sell to break even? CD in this market? Of course, if you want to Boris Rose it and put it out on cheap vinyl and zero niceties and sell it for $5.95 or something...how many of THAT would you have to sell to break even? For real, I would expect this to come out either thru Gordy Puhockles (or his unnamed 3rd cousin twice removed thrice restored) or else in whatever the Miles Bootleg Series has in store 57 years from now...either way. that mp3 is getting it done for me. Now what I am wondering is...what other items of this nature exist, and have been collected, by, say, Resonance? If Zevvers can pull something like that out of his ass and get it to market, hey...
  8. Just in the last 30 days, three people we have known personally have tested positive. All three have since "recovered", but one guy, a father in his mid-30s is still experiencing getting easily winded with routine exertion. He has a daughter who's just a year older than our granddaughter, and the thought of him, or any father, having to be hampered like that for the rest of their life saddens and angers me beyond description. This guy works a job where masks are optional, and you know how that goes...there's always one or two (or more) idiots who just don't get it and don't give a damn about even trying to get it...so they give it. I don't know if that's where he got it or not, but according to my son (this guy's best friend), the guy is borderline obsessive about staying safe, but, you know....you still gotta make that paycheck... Not to put too fine a point on it, but the selfishness of people who still flaunt...whatever it is they're flaunting...by not using basic precautions at work, in public, anywhere that you mix with others who "come and go" (best way I know how to describe it?) is, at this point, morally reprehensible and intellectually indefensible. I can't put it any other way. No matter, new variant, more aggressive spreading, still no readily available vaccine (for us, anyway), we were looking forward to loosening up the self-imposed isolation-ness, but not now, no way. Death and invalidism will find me when it's their time to, but goddamit, they gonna have to come to me, I ain't volunteering for them.
  9. I make it a point to know people who know how to do stuff that I don't know how to do. sometimes, though, it's as easy as looking at the source codeof a page and finding the link for the mp3 file. This was not that, though, so I phoned a phreind, as they say,
  10. The 2020 Joe Castro box deserves recognition as well, I think. Maybe not HISTORICAL, but look at the people on there, and listen to how well they play and how often...don't sleep on the worthiness of this set!
  11. Probably stupid on my part, but I had never connected Satie and Eno...had a reasonable engagement with Eno (the performer and the producer, different animals there) back in the 70s thru the beginnings of the "Ambient" stuff, not really enthralled by all of it, but always found him somebody who was "on to something", if you know what I mean, something/someone to know about and not be unaware of. Kinda moved on, but Amazon Prime has this doc that covers him from the beginning up to the big Talking Heads "breakthrough", so, you now, it's a holiday weeke3nd, nothing else going, why not, right? Good show, actually, and when this Satie thing starts playing, WHOA!!!!! right? Now here's a probably stupid question - how much connection between Satie and the Bill Evans of "Peace Piece" has there been? Putting this de Leeuw record right in that mix connects some dots, puts one more piece of the puzzle on the table. It never stops....
  12. Ok...I was watching a documentary on Eno and this came on (Gymnopedies no. 1, of course, what other Satie is ever played to signify "Satie"?)...took me about 2-3 seconds to notice that it was reaaaaalllly slow. Beautifully slooooooooooooow. So at the end of the doc, they showed what it was, I 1-clicked that bad boy and now here we are. Illuminative.
  13. Look at all the music this man played, the places he went and the people with whom he collaborated, not just on tuba, but on baritone saxophone. Truly, this was a unique voice for our time. Let us celebrate how much there there was (and will remain) for and because of him. RIP, and much love here.
  14. Finished the second set this morning. It's very good, and the trio with Kotick & Motian is solid as a rock. There's not the discoverywonderment on this box as there was on the first, but having them both is not something I regret, even slightly.
  15. I suppose it's the ripple effect of Ray Charles...some very strange ripples, though.
  16. Ok, actually not a bad record, the players play and don't humor the material. Just wondering whose idea it was that these players playing these songs this way was going to...do anything for anybody?
  17. Hard times in the mill, safe times in the Volvo.
  18. Highly unlikely at this point, but always attempt to contact Mosaic directly about stuff like this. You never know what "odds and ends" they might have lying around. Having said that, don't let that be your Plan A, if you know what I mean...
  19. Drivin' that Volvo to the mill, right?
  20. What label might that be? At what price? In what format? I carpe diemmed on the mp3's of both sides of the offering, and I'm glad that I did. As far as I'm concerned, that WAS making it available to the public. Short of of this item being included in some future volume of the Miles Bootleg series, don't hold your breath or your money.
  21. And cassette! PLUS: How long will it be before the roadside awakes from it's slumber?
  22. Did ya' ever notice how some people look better with masks on and some don't?
