48 game season would be 12 weeks of Thursday thru Sunday. That part of it works. That's about the only part of it that does.
-
One of the more irritating records I've listened to a while. If not for some inspired Nistico, out it would go.

Ok, I'm tired of waiting for somebody else to say - surely TCM is the only place where Stan Kenton was short.
-
Jazz in general, and Xanadu in particular, lost a lot with the passing of Samm(mmmmmm) Jones.

Guess they not out of trucks today, WHEW!!!!! -
Went looking for this on the shelf last week and was quite WTF? when I realized I never got it. So...thank you Amazon Seller HPB Ruby (aka Half Price Books), y'all done me right. I still like the 40s band more, because you can't duplicate that kind of gonzo. But I like this band just fine, more and more as time goes by. Not gonzo, but property damn unequivocal!
-
That's just some careless, wreckless, and pain stooped shit. I got no problem with calling people out, but it's no different than any other time of "policing" - you damn well better get it right, and don't make a move until you're 1000% certain that you have it 100% right.
-
Yeah, they should've invited some Iraqui soldiers in. Turnabout is fair play!
-
Let me refine that answer - it's actually a pretty good record as far as jazz/bossa goes. It's not faux or anything like that. The core trio is very good, actually. But Simmons/Lasha/Jordan are not in any way the focal point of the record, nor does their presence bump it up a notch or two. It's interesting to hear them, but unless you really want it otherwise, they come in and they go out. Well, Jordan's presence does add value, actually, he plays very well here, very well. But he's just on a few cuts.
-
They should have waited for the public works department to do it. Let the pros handle it. otoh, maybe they should have invited some Iraquis in to do the job. Looks like they know how to do this type of thin:
-
It's not really "by" them, it's really that The Bossa Tres' record. Lasha & Simmons are just on some cuts, heads and solos. They play well enough, but they do much more impactful work almost everywhere else, ever. also on some cuts is Clifford Jordan, who plays very well when he plays. Truthfully, it's a curiosity item above anything else. You could be forgiven for thinking htat it's going to be Music Matador Unleashed or something like that, but no, no even a little tiny bit that. I mean, it's a fun record, and if you find it at a fun price, by all means, hop on, take a ride. But past that....don't get taken for a ride.

COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee

There are people around here who are delighted to go full-bore unmasked shopping again who just know that it's "the protestors" that are responsible for the spread. I guess aggressive consumerism is our vaccine. Who knew? -
Oh, I'm all for that, and fully recognize the importance. But just taking down symbols doesn't change people's hearts and minds, and what they teach their children, and what they do to other people. That part is not that easy. If we ought to know anything about human nature by now, it's that we love us some superficial change. We can too easily settle for looking right rather than being right. so yeah, it's the right thing to do, but this is going to be a long, LONG process, and frankly, I wonder/doubt if we'll ever really get there. "Far enough" and "too far"....too often that's what happens. Besides - anything can be made into a symbol. Where there's a will, there's a symbol. Or will be. Boogaloo - it's no longer what leads off a Lee Morgan record: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boogaloo_movementn
-
If the best thing that happens is that statues get taken down, I'm afraid we'll have just changed clothes without taking a bath first.
