I enjoy the Alan Silva "Treasure Box" set (though I just have regular CDs)...Celestrial Communication Orchestra HR57 I-IV Though it might be in the "interesting rather than great" category. Recorded 2001, released 2003, just squeaks in time-wise.

Agreed. I was at the July 28 Lace Mill concert (NuMBQ) and Michael announced 8/24 as a trio KK, MB and TT.

My best guess is that a motor vehicle jumped the curb and took out the 2 pillars supporting the awning. But only a guess.

I've amassed a decent amount and it's always delivered. I thought of posting Guy, but don't consider myself enough of a "big band expert" to pontificate. I'll also second the ICP and Moondoc recs above. Probably some William Parker releases qualify, but he makes so many records that I can't keep them straight in my head. 😮

True. But they're all pretty good. Andrew Hill didn't make bad records. 🙂 That box set series had some flaws (illegible art reproductions, no bonus tracks, various choices of material were head-scratching [under name of different leader] or redundant), but I still purchased a lot of them! I think the parent label (Cam Jazz) is no longer in business, and have no idea what will happen to the catalogue.

Per discogs, there seem to be quite a few copies (mostly LP) in the UK, but rare (in any medium) Stateside. Looks like an "audiophile" vinyl special at this point. Will wait and see if anything else surfaces.

Yes, but that is difficult to find (on CD at least), as is Equipoise from 1978. All I have is Blues for the Viet Cong from 1969. 😪

+1 There aren't enough Cowell trio recordings of that vintage. I like his later (Steeplechase, etc.) recordings just fine, but would have liked more earlier trios.

If you like that, don't sleep on the Ten to Two Blues reissue with Goykovich and a Tete Montoliu trio. I got both, and the latter is really strong.

Page isn't loading for me right now. Greatly enjoyed track 1, a tune I recognize (but can't name offhand) and that's on several recordings I own. No idea of the performers, but deserves research. The next two tunes made less of an impression. Can't say more until the page comes back.

These Takagi boxes have been marked down to more reasonable levels at DG: I got the first one (at higher price) some time ago and enjoy/recommend it. Passed (and continue to) on the second (mostly duets) because the 3d disc of 3 is solo bass.

So I took Extensions into the studio, where I have my Nitty Gritty cleaner set up. I was about to clean it, when I decided that instead, I wanted to hear Tyner's Sama Layuca. That's the key moment. Have to rack your brains re. what you did just then. My own tendency would be to set the album aside in some random place that seemed clever at the time (maybe due to thinking about playing it after Sama Layuca), and then forget about it. Probably some side table or shelf fairly close to either the Nitty Gritty or the turntable.

Oh, all right...I missed the boat on some, but added the Tchicai and 2 of the $8.99 non-Freedom Muzak reissues: Tete Montoliu Recordano A Line and Eddie Costa Quintet. A bunch of straight-ahead, particularly WCJ titles (Conte Candoli, Stan Levey, Frank Rosolino) appeal, but I'm tapped out due to many recent purchases.

These are good albums (Japanese reissue CDs) of standards with Hod O'Brien.
