  1. This is borderline jazz at most (some boogie-woogie content), but I'm a big Robert Ashley fan so:
  2. I didn't recognize (or recall?) the name GG Allin. Googled. Yikes. Should have let ignorance be bliss.

    Paul Bley

Wow, awesome disclosure / discovery. I have no idea about the legal aspects of mining the audio reels. Starting with: Who is (are) the legal owner(s)? I'd expect Bley's heirs owned them for some time. But maybe Archives Canada owns them now? Mystery to me, but I'm sure the details can be worked out.
  4. Thanks. Useful information. I'd read somewhere on the Internet that the B.free people acquired the festival tapes legitimately, but wasn't sure the info was reliable. The Burg Altena and the second (76-77) Balver Höhle sets have been on my wish list for a long time (and I wouldn't mind hearing the others). Prices have gone up a lot recently, perhaps due to the parent company being liquidated.
  5. Exactly my experience. I bought the very same set...other festival boxes are attractive but I've been put off by the authorization thing. I also have a CD of Marion Brown "Five Improvisations" on the label, so that's 3 B.Free releases I'm not so proud of owning. 😶
  6. I just ordered it.
  7. Yeah, I'm way late on the first two, but there are so many good reissues these days it's difficult to keep up.
  8. This is definitely very good and ticks all the boxes for me. The long selection Variation of III, written by Reggie Workman, didn't click on the first couple of listens, but now I like it too.
  9. Having read Joseph Jarman's book published by Blank Forms, I should have mentioned him... Going to see Joe McPhee in a spoken word concert this weekend, but don't know what is on the program.
  10. Haven't heard that, but it's probably very good because I have an excellent B.Free (is that a pirate label?) CD which has live versions of most of the tunes:
  11. In this thread, four regular Organissimo posters said that the sound is OK and zero (who have heard it) criticized the sound. I consider that a "buy with confidence", but am not expecting "audiophile" sound quality (which would be rare for a reissue of this nature).
  12. The discogs page you linked to had a video link (as they often do, right margin). It be excellent! And on the Satori label to boot! Also, you recently posted a Where the Boys Are clip Dialectic Jazz that had some funny speechifying.
  13. This one is OK, though the text is kind of "rural Americana" rather than any kind of social message.
  14. Good point. I find the ezz-thetics reissue program weird in several respects. To be honest, I never thought of "to" in the inclusive sense, given that many of the packages prune tracks from the component albums. 🤔
  15. I just checked, and the ezz-thetics (née Hat) ...Revisited seems to have all the tracks from the 2 albums, 6 from Three for Shepp and 5 from Gesprächsfetzen, which is better than usual for them. But since I have an Impulse! Three for Shepp I'll risk the sound quality of the Moosicus and get a full extra album.
  16. Unusual venue (pizza restaurant) and very local, but still might be of interest in the Hudson Valley area: https://www.facebook.com/events/295968503559899 Celebrating 10 years of presenting Jazz at Catskill Mountain Pizza Company, [Rich] Syracuse/Siegel will host old friends Erica Lindsay and Francesca Tanksley (aka "The Jeff "Siege" Siegel Quartet). Decades of playing together has given the group a unique sound and energy.
  17. There are quite a few more. I have 3 good Enja albums, Common Cause, Dream Bells and Overcome. Discogs shows several more on L+R and other labels: https://www.discogs.com/artist/130589-Attila-Zoller
  18. The world of VC-based startups is rather murky and opaque, so genuine info will probably be scarce. Most lawsuits get settled out of court, so I doubt we'll ever see the facts that would be publicly disclosed in a legal proceeding. Looks like the board consisted of three (now-departed) corporate officers plus four unspecified people, some of whom likely (IMO) were major investors. There's obviously been friction for a long time, because the 2021 factory expansion plan passed by only 4 to 3.
  19. 🤣 It's apparently a private company (in the "Seed" stage, whatever that is), so it's probably difficult to ferret out financial info. I doubt they'll be going public any time soon... Best I could find quickly was at https://tracxn.com/d/companies/vinyl-me-please/__tCASgzFrctXKdvB9ggz_0ua8H-kvbRWq47CFTJf0E74 I'm not sure what "The Company" means, who the board members are, or just who is filing the lawsuits. My guess for the latter two would be the biggest investors. The one "institutional investor" named is FirstTracks Ventures, a VC based in Denver.

    Tyshawn Sorey

Looking at Sorey's own website https://www.tyshawnsorey.com/in-the-news the recent (last 2 or so years, say) focus seems to be on composition. I don't know enough to comment on whether his pace has slowed.
