  1. happy birthday!!
  2. there is a brief oral history by ferrara in Fifties Jazz Talk by Gordon Jack, see here
  3. something similar happened to the don joseph discography which went to like 50% (6 out of 11 sessions) a few months ago; asked michael fitzgerald about it who said he would fix it but apparently hasn't gotten around to doing so...
  4. here are some remembrances of Don Joseph by trumpeter Mike Morreale who could certainly tell more (there are also clips of the two on youtube...) http://www.library.csi.cuny.edu/siloh/featured/michael-morreale/ contact info http://www.csi.cuny.edu/faculty/MORREALE_MICHAEL.html
  5. according to google, he is a drum instructor at Howard Community College and still plays more or less regularly in the Wahsington DC area
  6. as ubu says, no pages so far, here is the link to the first release which isn't in there yet (so possibly the link to the next boxed set - or the next release otherwise) http://www.camjazz.com/site/index.php?site=&path=cd&idcd=1722 (and then 1723, 1724...)
  7. i found it disturbing, too... although i would think the rules of blogging mean that the blogger has full control over content so i would guess it's in line with netiquette, but reveals a lot about the blogger in question who is the solely responsible jerk here
  8. Why is it surprising that popular searches include young, attractive females? Jennifer Aniston is 42 and Osama Bin Laden is dead
  9. after reading this forum thread (tell me if you need anything translated) http://forum.rollingstone.de/showthread.php?t=32598&page=3 (and guessing that shops which still maintain their websites still exist) i have come up with these two shops: http://www.plattfon.ch/ http://www.ohrwurm-oase.ch/ and possibly "Atlantis Records" at Elisabethenstrasse 41 (not anymore at Klosterberg 9)
  10. i really like Rassinfosse/Baker/Catherine on Igloo, more here, which was recently reissued as Crystal Bells but haven't heard any of the steeplechases so far...

    Barney Wilen

you can hear a minute here http://vimeo.com/groups/jazzman/videos/31148140 and then there's also "Moshi Too"?! http://vimeo.com/groups/jazzman/videos/29044593
  12. I thought English was the forum's language, not German. Not everyone here speaks or reads German. Können Sie Deutschen nicht lesen? I do read and speak German (ich lese und spreche Deutsch), but not everyone here does and English is the forum's language; I think everyone should post in English, if only as a courtesy to others. imho, if you really have something exciting to share than every language is fine - in this particular case, the poster was telling a story (evans using the rest of his contract with impulse to push two admired artists) which is widely available everywhere - in such a case imho if you don't speak english well then just post a link... otherwise i'm with larry, there are quite a few posts about carisi around here and he doesn't deserve to be put down (meaning: saying you don't like the music of his you've heard is one thing, but saying "he played on Birth of the Cool" in a way that suggests that you played on "Kind of Blue" and consider it superior.... ;-) )
  13. just a bunch of pictures...
  14. even more belated: happy birthday!

    Freeman Lee

consistent with the info paul linked to (ie if he was CHarles Freeman Lee born on 13 AUgust 1927) we have LEE, CHARLES F 13 Aug 1927 16 Jun 1997 according to his social security death index entry (last address in ohio again) in fact, creepy as it is that information is so widely available: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=42544650
  16. Larry was quoting Laurie Pepper (jazzwax comments)... those claims about not being involved with Lonehill etc are somewhat thin anyway because Pujol is one of their main distributors it seems...
  17. neither do i have any exclusive recordings of any value nor do i have any sort of agenda in the music business whatsoever... but once more - whenever you see an orginal cover or cover photograph on a fresh sound cd (as in the case of the recent lenny mcbrowne reissue for instance) you can be almost certain that the overall product is NOT in compliance with spanish copyright law. why we are talking about freshsound and not about proper i don't really know (in fact i have a handfull of fresh sound reissues but nothing from proper) but we can't talk about everything at the same time...
  18. same here, in the meantime there are also some clips of Redd with the same frontline on youtube, e.g., http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nV-wYwMFkqk more Redd on the smalls live site (and an abundance of Clemons whose work i like a lot)
  19. "And let's not forget that if it weren't for Pujol and Fresh Sound, we'd never know how most of the jazz albums recorded in the 1950s sound." there's no arguing that this statement is totally wrong (OJCs, the BN series, ... even if they're out of print now - as is a good deal of the fresh sound catalog btw..., the blogs... other reissue labels (especially if you follow Pujols claim that only Fresh Sound is his label)); and if you look around you also find "inside" people complaining (like David Weiss in the other tread or Laurie Pepper calling Pujol a liar in the comments to the interview) all in all (masterings, artwork, pictures, liner notes) i would vaguely guess that about 50% of what Fresh Sound issues violates (Spanish/EU) copyright in one way or another...
  20. Dial!

    Lee Konitz

he did play a concert in munich yesterday, don't know much more than that he made the gig...
  22. for proof, see also your last post in that old thread :-)
  23. Danke! "I talked to his widow on the phone tonight. He worked just until the very end and left us peacefully in the night from Friday to Saturday."
  24. the high king ubu and me have a theory that you should just put nonsense information such as "000" into all fields because the computer will hesitate to overwrite this information (as opposed to no information at all) but haven't tested it thoroughly so far
  25. late to the party, happy birthday!
