  1. totally agree, strange of her not to even give him a clue, i wouldn't want to be mentioned in the credits of, say, "Vampires in the Midwest" either...
  2. when i went to Krakow (recommended) i made a stop in Wroclaw which is nice, too, though not quite as spectacular; only changed trains in Poznan and it seemed considerably less charming than the other two
  3. fwiw, Live At Berkeley Jazz Festival Vol.2 is on the Enja CD Inside Story
  4. indeed though i don't think it has been circulating wildly, otherwise some people would have known
  5. see my post above, i am fairly certain that someone somewhere on this board said that the album had been heard by a handful of people which at least opens the possibility that some copies were out... it's a bit short at least for a 12' album so maybe it was aborted or it was a late 10' album that fell through the cracks...
  6. track titles and stuff look weird, there's a huge variation in running time between different takes, the titles reveal either a "blues project" or titles assigned by the engineer or such (the info in fitzgerald's discography with the matrix numbers looks as if it comes from session logs or so?)... and even with the longest versions of each tune it's barely 28 minutes (the cd is longer but there are 6 alternate takes) so apparently unfinished... or 10'?
  7. from the info on Michael Fitzgerald's page (no track timings etc) i don't think it was in circulation (he doesn't update the page regularly anymore though i believe, so this info is as of two years ago or so...); iirc someone (larry?) mentioned here that ira gitler had heard it or might own a copy but that's all i know... hadn't been aware that this was actually the first Fruscella Atlantic album, not the second so apparently it stayed in the can...?
  8. Happy Birthday!
  9. The only thing depressing is that I didn't get to see what was playing that week-- Jaki Byard at Angry Squire (actually May 1 and 2), Dannie Richmond Quintet closes on May 3 (Sunday) at the Village Vanguard (followed on Tuesday by the Elvin Jones group) Fat Tuesday has Chet Baker West Boondock's has Sadik Hakim (who I thought recorded with Charlie Parker and disappeared thereafter). had forgotten that Alexander/Red and I are from the same week, and it's a good one... !
  10. sorry! always had this quote of dadisi in mind (in one of isoardi's books, the dark tree iirc, you badly need it if you haven't got it, if only for the cd...) "crack cocain was my nemisis for a long time" so i was happy to see him still around and looking reasonably healthy...
  11. just hypothetically, let's say you're undeservedly in prison because you're wrongly accused of stealing vintage postcards; would you ask someone to post on your facebook page that your addiction to vintage postcards broke out again and now your in trouble? sounds like the most absurdly illogical thing to do for someone who intends to plead on innocence... don't know if this is what hot ptah meant, but the presumption of innocence and stuff doesn't apply to me, i'm not your legal system (neither are you), and facts seem fairly clear... i have no problem with apologizing in a big way when the time comes, but until then i rely on the facts i have access to, and those look so bad i don't have any doubts...
  12. 1) you can't do both, practice your "addiction" to child porn and be innocent. thus if you admit the former you have admitted the latter. all this is too serious to whine about the legal details, guilt and crime are older than your laws; yet honestly i don't see the fine line between admitting a "serious child porn problem" and admitting a crime even from a legal perspective as far as i can judge that... 2) i did not say that i am convinced that bill has raped children, only that he had children raped by others on his behalf - that's what a "child porn addiction" is all about...
  13. on another eminent jazz discussion board, bill's name was changed the day we found out here and that's it (more accurately, he's still named bill but there's no barton anymore) - i very appreciate that you give us a place to come, jim, wouldn't want to be alone with this...

  15. yeah, someone may have abused bill's admitted "child porn addiction", uploading stuff from his computer to become a member of the "dreamboard"... wtf
  16. "Earlier in the thread, we talked about how a defendant is innocent until proven guilty. Obviously a lot of people don't believe in that principle, but it's a cornerstone of our legal system." i do believe in that principle, it keeps innocent people out of jail etc... but i'm not your legal system and i guess the same is true of you; additionally, we know by now that "our" bill barton was involved in child porn and that "blackbart2010" uploaded to the "dreamboard" at least twice material that was compliant with that board's fierce rules (see the indictement if you haven't)... to me that proves beyond any reasonable doubt that bill is not innocent (and, yes, "proves" doesn't mean that a jury says he's guilty, that he's a monster or whatever); i know far too little to say how guilty he is, which punishment would be "fair" etc - but it's plainly absurd to tell me i should assume bill is innocent!
  17. "As has been pointed out, it is easier for many people to find sympathy for someone addicted to heroin." see, if someone is addicted to lying in bed all day, then bad for him but why not... if someone is addicted to heroin and somehow manages to fill his needs without getting into whatever horrible stuff - severely bad for him BUT though i wouldn't quite call it sympathy it's an entirely different thing than being addicted to raping 3 year olds, or being addicted to watching while 3 year olds are being raped. it's so different i find the comparison quite offensive. i know what happened is hard to take - but could you please stop all that apologetic crap!
  18. discographical details are here under probably October 16, 17 or 18, 1965 : http://www.dougpayne.com/on51-66.htm
  19. unsure how relevant this is to the matter, but i found this quote by John Lurie fairly interesting and convincing Q: Miles Davis and Frank Zappa were two terrific players, but were perhaps equally as renown for their ability to recruit top-flight talent for their bands. You also fit that description, with your bands having included John Medeski, Steven Bernstein, Michael Blake, Marc Ribot, David Tronzo, Billy Martin, Jane Scarpantoni, and the list goes on and on. What are you listening or looking for when you select your musicians? A: How they fit together is important. For example, if the drummer is macho, then the bass player has to be a little lenient. There is a big masculine/feminine thing in who I hire. Not male/female but just a sense of who is sensitive and who is strong. It is best to have both in the same person, but if you don’t, then you need to balance it out. I have hired some musicians without even hearing them play; just seeing how they pack up their instrument after talking to them can be enough. from this interview: http://www.jambands.com/features/2011/02/01/john-lurie-sustains/?1
  20. i read bill's message as saying something to the effect of "at some point i realized i need some sort of medication because otherwise i would molest children or at the very least endorse the molestation of children, but then medicare stopped paying for my medication so..."; and i firmly believe that once you realize you need this type of medication you should either kill yourself or make it your primary goal to have access to that medication - any other decision - including bill's - deserves exactly zero respect. now admittedly my english is not that good and i haven't been to vietnam, anyway, if i understand you, face-ob, right, you read bill's message differently, you say it means something like "the bad guys in prison don't give me my medication and thus i want to molest children all day - too bad none are around"; maybe you are right though i'm not convinced, my compassion with this type of medical condition is severely limited. anyway, let's not forget, he's not yet convicted.
  21. looks like homeland security was involved in one way or other http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Delego what bugs me a bit about the message from bill is that to me it conveys a spirit as if child porn was made from water and the right kind of white powder like so many other addictive substances people use to cure their depressions... here's a photo of bill in vietnam btw http://www.flickr.com/photos/34815186@N05/
  22. allen, you have to click the plus on the right (again and again)
  23. i understand it like this: someone who openly has relationships with both males and females, a few months or years of this, then a few of the other, is bisexual - someone who leads a "double-life" being straight, married and all to the outside and while having more or less secret same-sex relationships for fear of whatever should not really be considered bisexual... just like a jazz musician isn't a ... musician as well just because he played a great timpani solo on an album of ... music...
  24. great to see someone else loves those nimbus west records (especially the Nate Morgan), if you order them directly from the label, tom albach brings them to the post office in person (at least that's my experience) http://www.nimbuswest.com/ here's a recent video of Dadisi Komolafe (sound gets better around 1:50) must be one of the most boring interviews ever but there he is... also http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/06/02/national/main20068285.shtml
  25. admittedly, the one thing i am not so sure of is whether "our" Bill Barton was really a registered sex offender... he doesn't seem to be in any of the databases and iirc i only read/heard about that through media reports but not through anything official - but then maybe he was deleted upon arrest... anyway, i find it encouraging that those who knew Bill personally tend to be even more shocked than the rest - shows that this is not a thing about "internet acquaintances" or the like...
