That would take up too much space here. here's another one hoping for an answer!
  2. true, but part of not making a big deal of some people being GLBT is not being afraid of throwing in a name without being certain... Unfortunately, it is a big deal in some areas of our society. And what's not a big deal to you may be a very big deal to someone whose name is mentioned without any substantiation. yes, but from that angle, consent seems more important than substantiation to me... and for "historical" people like Navarro I don't see a problem
  3. true, but part of not making a big deal of some people being GLBT is not being afraid of throwing in a name without being certain...
  4. i assume "the last book" refers to Gavin and not to the excellenz deValk biography... the guy loses quite some sympathies for saying "the last book" to often (as if the goal was to be better than the previous biography published (as opposed to any biography publishd), anyway, of course i am interested...
  5. + Curtis Fuller - Soul Trombone / Cabin In The Sky currently, the preorder price is 7,99 Euro on amazon.de , they say it comes out on 24 June over here
  6. Paul Brewer with Organissimo:
  7. don't think Gilroy is a pseudonym, it was easy to be on the SF jazz scene without becoming a big name; there's a Claude Gilroy (died Pacific Grove, Monterey, CA) in the Social Security Death index, 1928-2003, which seems plausible; and here's a guy from the area who says he played drums with him: http://www.mbay.net/~ndys/article.html see also here: http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=MC&s_site=montereyherald&p_multi=MC&p_theme=realcities&p_action=search&p_maxdocs=200&p_topdoc=1&p_text_direct-0=0FD2210172126C96&p_field_direct-0=document_id&p_perpage=10&p_sort=YMD_date:D&s_trackval=GooglePM seems to be the guy...
  8. and wasn't "Hen Gates" also a name of pianist James Foreman (late forties Dizzy sideman, stepfather of Mtume...) does it stand for anything in english/is there a joke I don't get?
  9. not quite a pseudonym but i like this cover a lot
  10. well, it was a crappy day in a crappy week, but i did cry when i read you post above... the board is not about talking jazz these days anymore, it's about being one of those left (and, sad as this is, i'm sure you're one of those) - so hang in there, come back, you know you have friends here (whatever that means but you do) and I am wishing you the best of luck (still don't own a single Mosaic set after all those years and it's not because i don't want to, also had to cut back on all sorts of things the last few months, no idea where I'll be a few months from now but most of the time a vague optimism which I'd immediately share if I could)
  11. not familiar with anything, but did you see that you can play the complete albums in so-so sound quality on the label's website...
  12. many here used it for the first batch of Black Saint/Soul Note Boxes which they had at a great price... always worked fine for me... btw they also have great prices on those new (not yet available) Impulse Twofers http://www.grooves-inc.co.uk/sanders-pharoah-village-the-pha-impulse-cd-album-pZZa1-1862622862.html?osCsid=515ced3105f928b35c27679ac4b5a4dc
  13. Bad English is one of the most important languages in the world today, for instance it's the language of many scientists... of course, this means you have to see lots of Bad English around you, but - as the others have pointed out above - this is a relatively small price to pay compared to, e.g, someone from China who has to learn it from scratch in order to communicate... and believe me, it sucks to communicate half the time (and do almost all of your writing) in a language you will never really master... yes, the amazon report is not easy to read, but for me it's still easier to read than Spanish... and sorry for having gotten angry, I was in a bad mood anyway... Back to Mingus
  14. don't feel like discussing it, but statements like this one always make me angry, it's not "your" language anymore, and after all that brings loads of advantages to you guys... just don't read it if it hurts you so much
  15. not really of help either, for particular release estimates, you can of course sometimes use google books and look whether it was advertised or reviewed in billboard...
  16. there's a huge difference between knew and new besides that, congrats, still looking for my nw bass player
  17. here is a pretty nice Tapscott site in French with accurate-looking discographies of both Tapscott and the Nimbus West label http://bjazz.blogspot.com/
  18. every day i come here in the hope for posts like this one (and it often takes months for one to come up) - thank you very much, waiting for more now (and will tell a friend who's a big DP fan to come here and wait for more as well :-) )
  19. If you meant to say the specific case you're talking about is mentioned in the Wiki entry, I didn't see it. it's also found in the wikipedia article on a guy named Ryan Giggs
  20. all i can tell you for sure is that there's indeed no sax on 2 (in some parts of the world, the album can be streamed here)
  21. there's also the (digital only?) one by Peter Bernstein on Xanadu

    Jazz In Paris

the Eddy Louiss is not from the original Jazz in Paris Series, right? (Orgue vol 2 was in the Series as Bohemia after Dark...?)
  23. that's something i don't quite get: the Rollins I see frequently, the Miles, too, maybe I've also seen the Monk... but is it true that the Evans and Monk are available only from amazon.it and not from amazon.de, and why... btw, grooves-inc has the rollins box for 20.29 Euro with free international shipping, no idea how great a deal this is... (or is the Rollins really from Concord?)
