  1. @ epistrophy: totally expected the book to be complied from existing sources
  2. the bass sound on 'Smoke Stack' is incredible. and overall, the SQ is actually -much- better than i expected for a $100 copy of this. the horn solos, bass, and cymbals, are comming through crystal clear even on this VG- copy. lots of presence, the cds sound incredibly thin by comparison. i am happy i got this lp in particular, it is not a normal record. its definetly one of the most unique blue note sessions ever done. its more influenced by like the way Prestige, were doing jazz records, and with that 4-horn allstar lineup.........puts it in a catagory of its own, its defintely the Blue Note Tenor Conclave, this record. one of a kind on the entire label!
  3. thanks jsngry, i really appricate your good wishes. hey, my copy of A BLOWIN' SESSION came today too!
  4. yes. the one i got is the next stamper right after the alt. mix version. but really as ive never heard the record in this good quality sound before- its kinda like the whole album is one big alternate mix, lol!
  5. i guess the 1st few stampers were matsered with tube gear and then emi switched to solid state gear, people like the tube cut better
  6. beatles revolver emi uk tube cut mono 2nd set of stampers, cond: really really clean. $4
  7. so does the Hank. even though its sold by a dealer, man i have to say it seems like the real deal. prob would be a lot less if it did have miles. i really feel bad i cant bid on it. it would be so nice to have an actual piece of hank memoribilia.
  8. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MILES-DAVIS-Rare-Vintage-Signature-1962-w-Paul-Chambers-Hank-Mobley-etc-JAZZ-/110935762889?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d44967c9 seems to come from a site specializing in famous autographs....
  9. jimmy smith bluesmith white label promo, $3

  13. is les mccann retired? hes not still in LA, is he?
  14. and isnt joe sample on keys for it
  15. he mentoins "hissy vinyl" yes. i have some albums, some very very clean copies....but VERY "hissy vinyl". what is this, and what causes this, is it something in the manuf. process or parts. he also says: Recycled vinyl that hisses. One of the Prestige’s fatal economies in the early Sixties, recycled vinyl contained fragments of previous labels and micro-detritus, that results in an audible hiss throughout replay. All early Sixties Prestige, New Jazz especially, need to be checked for hissy vinyl and some releases are available only with hiss. The hiss is not trivial, it is quite obtrusive. This gold label is one of them, and allows you to glimpse a future life with severe tinnitus. ----------- I highly doubt that prestige was pulling a 'Crown' and recycling vinyl lps into new vinyl. i wonder what his source was on that
  16. hi i have gold label prestige issue, non-vangelder stapmed. my Q: is this an earlier jack mcduff issue switched to be under the drummers name, or is this a seperate, unique drummer-led soul jazz organ album. also i do not know much about the gold label issues, that was a very short-lived thing, right?
  17. did but buy, but: "To johnny cadillac, Right On- FREDDIE HUBBARD"
  18. Curtis Fulller/ Ocalaypso 45: it went for $111 the other day. !? what do you mean those who bought copies out of goldmine in the 80s for $500
  19. wait what happened to george benson? are you serious?
  20. RIP, a great loss for west coast jazz. i totally saw him once with Quartet West, i think it was way before i knew about all he did, but i definetly nonetheless saw him once
  21. Sherman was a huge prog rock fan, he loved gong flying teapot and gentle giant procolimation
  22. Love Bug/Reuben Wilson Liberty issue vangelder stamped, RE-1 matrix scribed in as well, interestingly enough. $2 bin. the bro who had it writes his name and 11-'69 on the lp and backcover. this was recorded in march 69. so just let that show u the turnaround. i guess this was that really weird time when vangelder was still cutting at his RVG studio and then sending them (!?) to liberty. i wish i knew more about it. have you guys seen that one, seriously like 50 pg interview with rvg, that was done a few years ago. he wont reveal his "secrets".
