  2. "Springtime for Hitler", that is too good. : 0 ) I am really sorry that I didn't get back to the discussion (time goes by too fast) but I did listen to the BFT quite a bit. Some really good piano. Mike Wofford and Walter Davis are now on my find out more about these guys list. So here is how old I am. When I was a young one, the guy across the street had a little television shop in his front room. My dad took me over to check it out and the first TV show I ever saw was Howdy Doody in all it's black and white glory. I am surprised I can still pull that out of my poor age addled memory. I have had Braam's "Howdy" on my list but I now see that Jazz Loft no longer has it. Where did you get that one? If I haven't said it, that very much for the great listen.
  3. I would like to sell The Complete 1959 CBS Charles Mingus Sessions (Mosaic MQ4-143), 4LPS. 0650 of 1500. M- condition. Maybe $140 plus shipping? Thanks for your consideration.
  4. Ahh, I figured you'd come closer to this one than anybody. Braam it is. (Newish to me, I've had it only a couple of months ago.) I've been kind of going through my Michiel Braam stuff and I don't think I have this track. I got a new (to me anyway) MB toward the end of November also. It is a 2CD album called "Growing Pains". One of the best pieces of music I own. Again, I don't think your track is on it but there is alot of music to absorb. If I'm wrong, big egg on my face.
  5. I am a sucker for the piano trio and track 1 is a good one. The style, going in and out of the melody works for me. I want to hear more about this piano player. Track 3 isn't my usual listening but I could see going out to have a couple of beer and hearing these guys. Maybe after some Kansas City BBQ. The trumpet player has a style. Track 4 reminds me of the Matsabumi Kikuchi Trio with Paul Motian, except I don't hear his vocalizations. So, here is another one I want to find more about. I love the sparseness of the playing. Beautiful.
  6. Nice stuff all around. I wasn't going to comment right away but track 13 reached out and grabbed me. You probably know me enough that it isn't a suprise that this is my kind of music. I love the piano playing. While it sounds familiar, I can't really place it. Of coarse, the high jinx and musicianship make me think of some of the Dutch groups. Maybe Michiel Braam. Actually, I hope this is a group I've never heard of because finding out about it will be even more fun. I will be listening to this track alot. If you want to do a reveal on this one right away, feel free. : 0 )
  7. Me too.
  8. So, I'm listening to track #7 and actually thinking that I might have heard this tune. It is time to go to bed.
  9. Listened to #2 again. I always thought I might be able to pick out Al Francis. He does have a style and as you pointed out there are only a couple of examples to draw from. Well, again I was wrong. I have this album as well, which I'm going to pull out tomorrow.
  10. Wow - this is extremely kind, thank you...I'm really flattered you enjoy them!!! I've been listening to Song Singular, which I got from Mr. Hawkins. Our friend can play the piano.
  11. How did I miss Flip Philipp. : 0 ) There is always something new, which is why these things are so much fun. Thanks very much for some really good music.
  12. It's the vibe, so I feel compelled to make a couple of wild guesses. Track 1 - an exuberance that makes me think of Terry Gibbs. Track 5 - playing reminds me of Joe Locke. Track 6 - Teddy Charles. Still really liking the vibes/bass track, which is a combination I really like. I have several albums with this combination and will probably have another soon.
  13. I was going to take a BFT break but I'm pretty sure you will have some interesting stuff....so may I have a download please?
  14. I've spent the last week mostly playing with my visiting grandchildren, so I haven't got back to the BFT for awhile. Hopefully I will get back to it this weekend and make a wild guess or two. I did want to mention that I am really interested in the bass/vibe duo. The vibes really do sound familiar but I agree with your assesment that it is a tough instrument to ID. Neat track.
  15. Thanks for the replies to my question.
  16. Is the bandcamp page the best place for someone in the US to buy this? I thought squidco had but I was wrong.
  17. Got a chance to download and listen to the first half of the BFT tonight. As a self proclaimed vibraphone nut I have to say that not much jumped out at me identification wise , yet. I will say that I can do track #6 all day long. Beside the vibes the other solos are all quite good particularly the trombone. Track #7 was pretty interesting also. At the risk of embarrassing myself, I'm fairly certain track #8 is the world's best vibes player. I stated on my first BFT here that Walt Dickerson was my favorite musician, so if I'm wrong...big egg on my face. Beautiful tune, nice bass line and maybe Andrew Cryille also. I honestly like Mr. Dickerson's later music better but this ain't bad. Hope to listen to the rest soon and maybe figure out some Ids. Thanks.
  18. Great BFT, Bill. Thanks alot for putting it together. The first Sun Ra and solo Sun Ra and the Barry Altschul need to be check further by me.
  19. Thanks, I will try the download this evening. I was going to sit this one out because I'm not sure I can give it the time it deserves. Then I saw it was about the vibe and I was hooked.
  20. Can I still get a download?
  21. Not to be overly dramatic, but that was one of those life-changing albums for me. Very affecting piece of music indeed!
  22. A friend brought over the Art Ensembles "People In Sorrow" last night. How did I miss out on this one?
  23. Friedlander is the other Masada member (had a brief moment of lucidity). The only album by them I know is the 50th anniversity one, which I foolishly sold. Bad move on my part. I listened to the BFT again on my last two morning walks and wanted to mention that track 10 was really tripping my musical trigger. Having now read through the comments, I now see why. What a group. I have listened to the album "Visions" by Walt Dickerson and Sun Ra alot in the last couple of months. I like Sun Ra's playing on that album more and more each time I hear and was wondering if he ever made any solo piano recordings. Now I know. I will be very interested to hear you thoughts on the album and any other Sun Ra solos for that matter.
