So, I typically listen to much different stuff than you do but after one quick listen I'm hearing a number of tracks I find very interesting. Track one is different, odd, weird maybe but I like it. Thanks. Later.

Thanks for the BFT. I enjoy your comments as well. Jay McShann might be fun to check out. At this point you would think I would have already done that but there is so much I don't know about.

Been enjoying my ride down Missouri Hwy. 137. Here are a few comments, mostly like/don't like. I'm having more trouble with coherence the older I get. I heard another guitar players' version of “Cherokee” on the radio this morning. I actually have a radio station that plays jazz where I live now. Don't know either artist but your version is much better. Track 2 is pretty interesting. Neat little intro and exit. Nice trumpet solo. Not big on the drum solo but I like the piano. This is kind of a dumb thing to say considering who sponsors these forums but I'm not a big organ fan. Track 3 is OK, just not my favorite About the only time I listen to the traditional stuff is on these BFTs and I almost always am drawn to those tracks. To me track 4 starts with a little boozy feeling (if that makes any sense), almost could be a sound track for one of those old cartoons. That is not a knock, I love those soundtracks. They are some of my first music recollections. I like the soloists. “Loveless Love” no? Track 5 really sounds familiar. That usually means it is someone I've never even heard of. I like this track more each time I listen. I've already commented a little on track 6. Probably my favorite right now. You won't cost me any money on this one since I already have it. Again, nothing wrong with track 7, just not my favorite. Really nice bass playing though. Track 8, some more older really nice music. Track 9, not stick a fork in my ear or anything just not my favorite. Track 10, OK. Another one that sounds familiar. Now, something a little different. Track 11 makes me picture an old boy sitting on the porch with his hound dog and a cold beverage, watching the world go by. I like it. Except for the dog, maybe that will be me this afternoon. The first time I listened to the last track I thought it was an into and kept waiting to see where it was going to go. Listening again, it really is quite a nice piece of music. I don't know if I would want a whole record of solo violin but this is a good finish. Thanks for putting this together.

Not such a wild guess. You're right all the way around. So what do you think, Wheeler on the right, Bowie in the middle, Smith on the left???? I listened to the whole album last night and it's a good one all around. Thanks for suggesting it.
-
So, my one wild guess for this BFT is Leo Smith on track 6. He did an ECM album that had a trumpet trio with, I think Lester Bowie and Kenny Wheeler. Haven't listened to it in a long time but I'm going to soon. Even if I'm wrong, I like this track very much. I haven't had a chance to do a lot of listening here but there is some good stuff. I will get back later.

Thanks very much for the great listen. In fact, I need to go back and listen to some of this again.

Download please. Thanks,

Thanks for putting a name to track 5 guys. I didn't want to wait to start looking into this one, although it looks as if it may be OOP. Really nice piece of music.

Would someone kindly get an ID up for track 5. Good all around but the drummer in particular is really good. To my tin ear seems to have a little Han Bennink thing going on. Thanks for the BFT.

Sorry for the no show in the comments section. I did, however, get to listen to the BFT quite a lot and enjoyed it. Totally not what I usually listen to, so all new to me. Thanks for you effort.

LF Roberto Ottaviano, Six Mobiles – Mingus: Portrait In Six Col

Thanks Clunky and mjazzg. The discogs album price is ok but to me the shipping cost is crazy. When did international shipping get so costly? I will take a look at Jozzos. Never heard of it. Thanks again. -

I've got the chance to listen to this BFT quite a bit this month. I don't have much for comments, just some preferences. I've probably said before that I'm a sucker for solo piano, so I enjoyed all three of those tracks, track 1 probably most. The Caravan, I think, track really sounded familiar. Usually that means it is somebody I've never even heard of. Piano improv really amazes me. My folks offered to get me piano lessons when I was a kid but I just wanted to go out an play ball. Wish I could get a do-over on that one. Track 2 is the one I am most looking forward to finding out. No point of reference here but I really like it. I can't say that track 3 so much appeals to me but listening to it on the stationary bike at the gym, I noticed I was peddling faster. So it had some affect on me. I'm pretty sure I know tracks 9 and 10 and they are actually my favorites of the BFT. I really got into track 9 from the start; great tune, nice group and playing, bass is really good. Second time through I payed more attention to the trumpet and well, that is Lester Bowie and of coarse AEOC. Probably one of the ECM albums. If it is Nice Guys or Full Force I'm going to listen to the whole album tonight. If something else, I guess I will try to get it. Track 10 is the opening cut from Air Lore. Great album, band and tunes. Great bass on this one too. Thanks a lot. Enjoyed this listen.

Love it. Sadly, I don't even feel guilty.

Why do you avoid their LPs? I avoid LPs in general just because I prefer CDs and listen to 99% of my music in the kitchen or in the car. But I also find NB LPs (and new vinyl in general) to be overpriced. I will get the Convergence album but it will run me more than $25 and I think that's both unfeasible and a little nuts. I agree that Tribal Ghost is great. I hear what you are saying about the price but sometimes I splurge a little. Plus I really do like to play records. Way back when I grudingly bought a CD player when you couldn't get LPs anymore and now some stuff is only on LPs. Go figure.
-
Thanks for the response. I asked because I just put in an order for this one: Tchicai/McBee/Fewell/Kohlhase/Hart - "Tribal Ghost". My main question was the short play time (even for a LP) but the clips I heard were just so darn good. I will try to get the Convergence Quartet also. A favorite group of mine.

Why do you avoid their LPs?

May I have a download please. You always present some interesting music. I would like to go ahead and make the first guess....Sun Ra.

Interesting topic for me. I would add Michiel Braam's larger groups to the Dutch recs, especially the album "Growing Pains".

There is another one I don't have. : 0 )

THE Schlippenbach? No. 50th Birthday Concert, Hunting The Snake, or Elf Bagatellen are probably most essential, but this is a wonderful record indeed. Their studio albums have a certain calm to them that I enjoy sometimes as a contrast to their (awesomely) pummeling live performances. Thanks. Always amazed by how much I haven't heard.

Thanks very much for your efforts. I've been playing to the Hawkins/Moholo-Moholo album several times the last week because I apparently don't listen to it enough. Terrific album. Question; is this the Shippenbach album you would recommend? All I really know is Pakistani Pomade.
