  1. That's a nice set and some great music. I picked one up when BMG was still around and they were selling some of their box sets dirt cheap. I seem to remember paying less than $20.00 for it.
  2. I'm just saying that the sale is nice if you were already planning on spending the funds because you'll be paying a little less than expected. If you're in the mind-set that one or more of the sets look interesting, but not at the regular price Mosaic is asking, then a 9% savings overall is not something to get very excited about or incentive enough to pull the trigger. (For me at least.)
  3. Yawn! This kind of sale is nice if you already had plans to buy the set(s) on sale and were committed to laying out the full price. Do the savings even add up enough cover what the shipping would be? Wake me up when there's some real temptation offered.
  4. Amazon had one of those very short-lived mis-listing deals on the Fantasy set (and others if I recall correctly) back in October. I got the Fantasy set new and sealed directly from Amazon for $26.95 delivered.
  5. So is that why my Columbia, Okeh And Vocalion Lester Young/Count Basie set has a higher number than my other Mosaics?
  6. This guy is doing close-up magic that seems to be much more than sleight of hand. Can you figure out how he does it? It appears to be in Japanese so I can't understand a word they are saying and you have to hang with it a bit to see all the tricks (~7 min.) but they get more and more impressive. I can't figure it out. Impressive close-up magic.
  7. It's meaningless to me. I couldn't care less what number I got, it'll sound the same as the others.
  8. Art Pepper + Eleven From box sets to single releases, I have 51 of Art's discs and was surprised that I hadn't ever picked this one up. Newbury Comics is currently selling new, SACD Hybrid versions of this disc for $5.99.
  9. As of this posting, they're selling Bill Evans' 9-CD Complete Fantasy Recordings for $49.99. Not a bad deal and definitely well worth it. Complete Fantasy Recordings - Amazon marketplace
  10. I couldn't pass up: (both $1.99 + ship) Lucky Thompson - Happy Days Sonny Phillips - Legends Of Acid Jazz (2-fer-->Sure 'Nuff/Black On Black)
  11. Still on my country kick: Johnny Cash - The Complete Sun Masters This is a 3-CD set which comes with a 36 page booklet containing a Cash biography, recording dates, release dates and track by track notes. This set has 101(!) tracks containing master, overdubbed, undubbed, alternate, incomplete and demo version takes. I'm really looking forward to giving this one a listen.
  12. Played it on my computer speakers and couldn't hear a thing. My 13 year-old daughter could hear it and found it really annoying. I then plugged in the headphones and could hear it just fine.
  13. I've been on a bit of a country/bluegrass tear lately. The Stanley Brothers - The King Years 1961-1965 (4-CD)
  14. Perhaps it stems from a member of the household actively participating in the occult.
  15. Merle Haggard - Down Every Road (4-CD)
  16. The original was a self-indulgent piece of turd-ocity and this one is even more so. At least the original had a sense of newness about it. This is just a sad re-tread which struggles to appear fresh while being completely obliterated by the fog of stench and celebrated self-importance it creates instead. In case you can't tell, I was completely turned off by it.
  17. Check out this video circa 1972. Cool choreography! I really dig it. What English sounds like in other countries.
  18. "Urlaubshits" is German for "vacation hit".
  19. Steely Dan - Aja I love this DVD and how it discusses Aja being made. Fagan and Becker at the sound board breaking down the songs and many of the principal players interviewed about their parts of the recording process. A classic album and a classic treatment about how it was made.
  20. Freaks And Geeks Just finished this a couple of days ago. I got a nice deal on this set during the Christmas shopping season. I enjoyed the series but not enough to keep and re-watch it so I ended up selling it. It basically cost me $4.00 to watch which was well worth it.
  21. The voice talent for the show was fantastic. The non-R&BW cartoons were great too. Dudley Do-Right, Peabody and Sherman, Fractured Fairy Tales, Aesop and Son, etc. It was funny, clever and just as fun to watch for the adults who caught all the jokes that went over their kid's heads.
  22. For what it's worth, I like Bobby Hackett and I was totally underwhelmed by this set. It's the one and only set I sent back to Mosaic and traded for another set.
  23. I hope not. Our microwave just went bust as well but it was probably overdue. I've had that thing for about 25 years. The plastic bumper on my wife's car has a nice dent in it from hitting a rock-hard snowbank. She'd like it fixed but I'd just as soon leave it as is. It's not going to rust and I hate to think of what they'd charge to pop it out if not replace it altogether. Stuff like this seems to happen when you think you're about to get ahead of things.
  24. I'd recommend any of the Cecilia Coleman CDs. Hard-bop fans should like Maffy Falay Quintet - Live At The International Istanbul Jazz Festival '94 It isn't the kind of stuff I usually listen to but Maurice Brown - Hip To Bop is worth checking out.
