An old couple go to a doctor and ask him to watch them have sex and tell if he see's them doing anything wrong. So they have sex. While they are getting dressed the doctor said, "Well I don't see anything wrong!" A week later they come again and ask the doctor to watch to see if they are doing anything wrong. They have sex and the doctor says, "Well again I don't see anything wrong." This goes on for weeks. Then the doctor asks why they keep coming. The guy said: "If we go to her house her husband will catch us. If we go to my house my wife will catch us. A hotel costs fifty bucks. Here it's thirty-five dollars and medicare pays half!"

The Official Organissimo Italian Jazz Thread

Quite proud of this thread that i started and of course the quality participation from the members. Pretty suprised that nobody has mentionned the Egea label which has produced some great music. Especially for those who are fans of Pieranunzi, i strongly recommend Perugia suite. As i mentionned in another thread i'll echo the sentiments of an earlier poster about the beautiful sounds produced by the very fine clarinettist Mirabassi, you can also find recordings of him on the label Egea. -

Bundesliga is back friday after a long hiatus, Leader Nayern Munich will be on the road to face Hansa Rostock. To quote Yeats, It's about motherfucking time !!! -
We talked about it in another thread so i elected to take the bull by its horns and start a thread about the world of Italian jazz. To get things rolling, i'll start with two subjects Subject number 1 Are they other Italian Instabile Orchestra cd worth going after. For my part i already own Skies of Europe which i would recommend strongly, Litania Sibilante who was the first cd i found after seeing them live, for my part i thought it was underwhelming after the live act. And more recently the one with Cecil Taylor who was disappointing as Taylor did not mix very well with the group. Subject number 2. Andrea Centazzo Mitteleuropa Orchestra The Complete Recordings: 1980-1983 I'm thinking a lot about buying this set, but i'd like to hear more about it by the fine people writing on this board. So here you go.

I'm trying to come up with other perfect achievements in sports. Excluding college football, which is too easy (relatively), here's what I have so far: * Nadia Comaneci's perfect 10s in the Montreal Olympics * Bobby Knight's 75-76 Indiana Hoosiers go undefeated (and 6 or 7 other college teams before them, including three Bruin teams, I think) * 72 Dolphins * Mark Spitz going 7 for 7 golds in Munich * Rocky Marciano's undefeated record in the Heavy weight boxing division * Don Larsen's perfect World Series game in 1956 (one of only 17 total perfect games in MLB history) --- I think there must be more Olympic athletes that went undefeated. Or other perfect records in sports outside the U.S. (soccer?) Can anyone else think of any other examples? To be fair you have put the record in the same context, the record is done in one season so you should compare to acheivements done in one season, since it's a team acheivment you can not compare it to individual exploits. And since few leagues a small number of games to be able to acheive it. In futbol we have seen teams go undefeated throughout a eason but i don't think has ever wol all their games. Anyway just putting the record into the context of the NFL makes it special enough -
Stealin' a page of my playbook.

Curiously, as much of a buff i am, never heard of Valdambrini prior to reading this thread, thanks for the tip, gotta say i'm much familar with current players than from it seems 50s or 60s

They're probably at the top of my "must hear live" list. Where did you hear them? In Montreal? I recently acquired the disc they made with Cecil Taylor, The Owner of the River Bank on Enja/Justin Time, but haven't had a chance to listen yet. Yep in 2000, probably the greatest jazz evening of my life, i'll talk about it in another thread. i bought the one with Cecil Taylor, listened to it once and was dissapointed, did not feel they really gelled together well. To get back to IIA, what set them apart from any other jazz gig i witnessed over the years besides obviously the outstanding composition and the musicianship was their humour, their theatricals and their great showmanship.

Being an italian jazz buff myself, told ya Porcy my main grief with your country is your political and football etablishment, i would also suggest the fine works of Gianluigi Trovesi, mostly his work on the label Soul Note. Also investigate recordings by the georgous sounding clarinetist Gabriele Mirabassi. Among younger players, pianist Stefano Bollani is making a fine name by himself. By the way my favourite jazz gig of all time showcased the collective Italian Instabile Orchestra, record wise their best is Skies of Europe, which is a tip to the hat to Skies of America, is available on ECM.

North Americans are pretty lucky tennis wise, except for the Aussie open, the rest of the big tournaments have a time schedule that makes thing easier, especially for those on the east coast, too bad can't see much of the weekday games because of work. -

Also considering today's results, you can send the championship trophy to Madrid. Real are truly a fine team and always get a way to win games as they showed against 3rd place Villareal. They now have 9 points over Barça and i don't see how they're going to cover up the lost ground -

This is why the FA Cup is one of my favourite competition Liverpool averts upset by 'minnows' : One of the biggest upsets in sports history was averted yesterday when the mighty Reds of Liverpool were given the fright of their lives by tiny Havant & Waterlooville before beating the non-league side, 5-2, in an astonishing FA Cup fourth-round tie at Anfield in Liverpool. The part-timers from Hampshire, six divisions and 123 places below Liverpool in England's football pyramid, twice led against the seven-time FA Cup winners. The FA Cup is open to all clubs that belong to the English Football Association, from the huge international Premier League sides to the tiny amateur clubs that play for joy and a pint. These little clubs are known as minnows. A hat trick by Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun denied Havant the biggest upset in the competition's 137-year history. The Hawks left the field as heroes and were given a standing ovation by the Liverpool supporters and 6,000 of their own fans who made the trip from the south of England. The Hawks include a refuse collector, a trainee taxi driver, a teacher and security officer on their team. H&W stunned the 42,000 crowd at Anfield when Richard Pacquette, who once played in the same Queens Park Rangers youth team as Liverpool striker Peter Crouch, put the visitors ahead after eight minutes. It took Liverpool until the 27th minute to equalize when Brazilian Lucas scored with a 30-meter shot but the part-timers went back in front four minutes later after a shot from Alfie Potter took a deflection off Martin Skrtel. Benayoun put Liverpool level again in the 44th before producing a well-taken shot on the turn after 56. The Israeli international completed his hat trick to give Liverpool a 4-2 lead before a late goal from Crouch made the game safe. "It has been a fairy tale," Havant and Waterlooville manager Shaun Gale said. "It will be a long time before anyone else does anything like this." -

French fans won't be able to say Cocorico as Tsonga was beaten by Djokovic --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Djokovic Beats Tsonga for Aussie Title By JOHN PYE – 13 minutes ago Novak Djokovic fended off unseeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (2) in the Australian Open final Sunday, earning his first Grand Slam title. No. 3-ranked Djokovic's win broke a sequence of 11 straight majors won by either Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal since Marat Safin's triumph at the 2005 Australian championship. Djokovic had not lost a set in six matches leading into the final, including his semifinal win over two-time defending champion Federer. But with Muhammad Ali lookalike Tsonga coming out swinging like he did in his straight-sets upset over No. 2 Nadal in the semifinals, that streak came to a sudden end. The 20-year-old Djokovic rebounded in the second and third sets and after saving a crucial breakpoint in the fourth, clinched his first major at his 13th attempt. He was the youngest player since Stefan Edberg defeated Mats Wilander in 1985 to win the Australian title and the first man from Serbia to win a major. As well as Tsonga, he had to overcome cramps. Djokovic got treatment on the back of his left thigh while holding for a 3-2 lead in the fourth set, then fended off a break point while serving at 5-5. Wanting to finish it off quickly, he raced through the tiebreaker — with some help from Tsonga, who double-faulted to make it 5-1 and then sent a running forehand long to give Djokovic four championship points. He only needed one as Tsonga hit a forehand wide. Djokovic fell on his back, then got up to shake hands with Tsonga and put his arm around the Frenchman. He got on his knees and kissed the court, shook hands with his family, then tossed two rackets into the stands before burying his face in a towel. "First, before I thank everybody in this world, I want to thank everybody in my box, who've supported me all the way through, not just these two weeks, all the way in my life," Djokovic said. "Thank you very much, I love you. "Second of course Jo. Unbelievable tournament and you should be proud of yourself — if he won tonight it would be absolutely deserved, so well done for his success." Djokovic, who has had a hot and cold relationship with the Melbourne Park crowd, won them back over again in his post-match speech. "I know the crowd wanted him to win more," he said of Tsonga. "That's OK, it's alright. I still love you guys, don't worry. "I'm very, very happy that I won my first Grand Slam here, so hopefully we'll see you here on this stage a lot more often in the future." Tsonga, ranked 38th, was playing his fifth Grand Slam tournament and had never previously gone beyond the fourth round. He was aiming to be the first Frenchman in 80 years to win the Australian title and the first to win any of the four Grand Slams since Yannick Noah's win at Roland Garros in 1983. Rod Laver Arena was packed and awash in red, white and blue, the national colors of both countries, but there was little doubt where the rowdy crowd's loyalties lay — with underdog Tsonga, who has delighted the Melbourne Park fans with his ebullient personality and go-for-broke style. A portrait of Ali, a racket sketched in one hand, was taped to a wall, and Tsonga sprinted onto the court for warmups. Djokovic, who had complained after his semifinal victory over Federer that he had to fight two opponents because of the overwhelming support for the Swiss star, was at it again, frequently turning toward a pocket of chanting Serbian fans to get them fired up after he fired winners. Both men looked tight at first, dropping their first service games before settling in. Tsonga suddenly picked up his game when it appeared the first set was headed for a tiebreaker. He blasted three aces to take a 5-4 lead, then came up with two great shots to break Djokovic. Serving at 30-30, Djokovic had an easy overhead, but didn't do enough with it. Tsonga ripped a forehand crosscourt passing shot for a winner, then raised his racket and roared with the crowd. Another good forehand winner finished off the set, and Tsonga went down on one knee to pump his fist before dancing over to his chair to a standing ovation. Djokovic refused to crumble. He never faced a break point in the second and third sets, yielding only 10 points in his nine service games. Tsonga, who had been so aggressive in beating four top 14 players earlier in the tournament, including No. 2 Rafael Nadal in the semifinals, seemed more content to rally from the baseline, especially after getting passed several times. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Couldn't see the game, it was played at 3 am for us. What makes Tsonga intriguing is that he's way better suited for hard courts than clay which setss him apart of other recent French players who generally have their best for clay courts. Although from memory Pioline was getting great results on hard surfaces So you gotta like his chance to have a great run late in the summer and make some moves on the rankings. -
