  1. Saw Matana Roberts doing her project Coin Coin part 1 with a band of more than 10 musicians, they played in a loft located in Montreal sound was not terrible which made it hard to appreciate the arrangements. on the other hand it's the first I watch a gig sitting in a rocking chair !
  2. Not MLB but a hell of a catch anyway.
  3. We talked about it the film thread, Check around the post 5565. Here's what I wrote the day after I saw the movie Saw Inception last night, since this is the kind of film that deserves to be seen knowing little as possible, before spoiling anything I'll just comment that the film deserves to be seen. Stop reading if you wanna see still remain a virgin regarding this film or only read it when you have seen it. If I had to resume the film using other ones it be a mix of Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (For the concept) of the Matrix (Visuals and what the movie tries to achieve ) and a bit of Blade Runner I am not sure however the film is as brilliant as it claims or the hype claims it to be. Yes it is challenging compared to most high profile films but it is more on the entertaining side than cerebral side. For starters as we got involved in the multi stages of the dream, it seemed that we kinda lost the purpose of the many plots and they filled it up with action sequences for the sake of it and what was going on inside those dreams didn't matter, weirdly the way it ended you could make of an argument than it did not matter. Other main weakness, the psychological developpement of the characters is as thin as most typical blockbusters, then again maybe the end explains their lack of depth. Among the positives the visuals are quite stunning , Dicaprio is quite convincing in his character, although you could make a case that it is a lot like the character he played in Shutter Island. Despite these misgivings as I mentionned at the start the movie is a fun ride just don't expect a film worthy of an Academy Award just a way above average summer blockbuster.
  4. Here's a technique that MG could try.
  5. Maybe it's the cars that are being made thinner
  6. Thought his latest CD was great, of course it's different, it's more spoken word than singing but quite good nonetheless.
  7. On lighter news , in what was an entertaining game, newly promoted Caen upsetted Marseille during the first week of Ligue 1. Basically one team was hungry the other thought that their skill level would be enough. Quite a good game by the young El Arabi for the winning side.
  8. Agreed with CJ Ravi is a worthy musician, but considering the way they treat instrumentalists , not exactly sure what will happen, went to the music store and was pleasantly suprised that they put out this Maybe there is hope ?
  9. Yep, the worse about it is that I already knew that, my bad, to my discharge his cd was in the African section of the cd store which created this brain cramp, might as well keep it there as I doubt we start a thread about Indigenous australian music
  10. If that keeps them away, I might as well start drinking
  11. I've heard they are going to give to the lucky one Wynton's integral.
  12. An 80s album but with none of the defects of the music of that era. Arrangements are a bit on the safe side but the guy has a beautiful voice, another great sunday morning record.
  13. For older varied work the Black Saint set that went out on Cam Jazz is tough to beat, the latter album giving us clues what his music would be going to in the future.
  14. Same than Bill, also listening to completely different typesy of music (African , French , Pop, Indy, country etc.) I rarely experiment the feeling of sameness. Of course if you start listening straight away, 6 hours straight of the same guy, then maybe you'll find it repetitive. Even when i buy a box set of a specific artist or formation, between the cds of this set I will listen to something that has ittle relation to the set. Musicologically it makes maybe no sense, but I care little about it , music is about exciting my ears and my brains. Oh yeah, when I get back to an old classic or a favourite of mine a bit like Bill , they still sound fresh. So I guess the trick is to bury your memory of the music and maybe only try to remember the pleasure you had listening to it, ignorance is truly bliss sometimes.
  15. That is exactly how I'm going to remember the man.
  16. Seems the price is the same everywhere else, ended up on a site called Tesco that sells it for the same price.
  17. I linked this video on the 'Return of the Film Corner' thread on July 20 (post 5584) Sorry, I guess I missed it and that is maybe the problem with multi pages thread, things get buried fast , and I thought it deserved a thread of its own
  18. I've tried to link it with the insert media thing so we could see the video from this page but it failed . Quite often when I put a link , depending on the board I'm writing on it becomes automatically alink. So I didn't bother checking how it ended up on the post Geez, tough crowd.
  19. Fun film, nice hommage, now let's play the game.
  20. Guti is also on his way to Besiktas.
  21. I have an acquaintance who actually saw a Sun Ra gig here, when I'll see him I'll ask about it. Too bad the jazzfest is over because it's the time of the year I see him the most
  22. Laurent Blanc has put his money where his mouth is none of the players that were part of the French squad that went to South-Africa were invited back for a friendly against Norway http://www.goal.com/en/news/90/france/2010/07/23/2038787/official-france-coach-laurent-blanc-will-cut-all-23-france-world-
  23. Read about 100 pages so far. Not sure if we are supposed to take the main character at face value but griping and fascinating story nonetheless.
