England has now its own Bill Buckner.
-
I think that Nigeria-South Korea will be the game to decide the second spot in that group.
-
I almost expected a rout the way the game started but thanks to a fine game by their Nigerian keeper and the fact that Argentines lost a bit of steam , the African team actually had a chance of getting something out of the game. Unfortunately poor finishing and sloppy passing actually did them in.
-
First upset of the competition, not an upset in the result, felt it was a pick 'em game although I picked Greece in my pool . It was more in the way the Korean were better than their opponents, they were better technically, physically, tactically and mentally. Nigeria and Argentina have been warned, they have to bring their A game against them.

We missed a great opportunity of taking control of the group, I was not thrilled by the selection of forwards prior to the competition, I'm even less right now. Uruguay got what it wanted a four way tie after one game for all the teams.

Well Henry was not supposed to make the team at the first place. He had to beg to be part of the squad. We were the best team, although it does not say much, but we need to be better in the last part of the pitch, a bit more flair is needed. Thought the ref was trigger happy for delivering the yellow cards.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Van Basten II replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Saw a very fine show last night as Hamid Drake and William Parker combined their forces to play a Kidd Jordan who was in great form to deliver a near 2 hour show of two sets of near an hour of continuous music. For those interested you can find it easily. -
In terms of viewing it was a lively game, do I think much of both teams, not really , don't have the second half stats but felt the hosts were playing more confidently in the second half and probably were the better team during the last half, overall a draw seems a fair result.

Say, it ain't so

Here's hoping, they'll use those only when South Africa will be playing and here's hoping that they will be quickly out of the tournament. A Céline Dion Cd sounds good. Regarding the game, when I could concentrate on it, neither team really imperssed me that much , lapses in defense, as a Bleu fan am confident that we have a strong chance to beat any of those teams if our team plays to the best of its potential of course. Best player to me was the Mexican midfielder Dos Santos

Think I will watch with the sound off , those horns are annoying

Guess what I'll be watching in two hours and for the next month

They are maybe peakin' at the wrong in time. Here's a tidbit to tell you how hard it is to win a World Cup for the first time if you're not the host, it happened only twice in 54 and 58. Then again maybe they're overdue.

No European team has ever won a World Cup held outside Europe, so you gotta think that Argentine and Brazil should be the front runners, will Argentine be able to gel collectively in time, with a crazy maniac as a coach it won't be easy. But quite often teams who have success in the big dance have struggled to qualify or had poor level of play prior to the main competition (Remember 1998). So, don't count them out yet on their poor showings. Regarding Brazil , Dunga seems to have opted for constancy over flair and big names, , by the way Ronaldhino played in Montreal last week and gave quite a show, I do feel that the football gods will reward his no nonsense approach. If an european wins it, hope it's Spain who will break their bad WC spell, but it's unlikely. Regarding Les Bleus, last time around, we played well despite the coach and rally around the veterans, am afraid this year it will only be a learning experience for the younger players and a quick exit, at best i don't see them getting further than the Second round. For my part my summer holiday is coinciding with the competition , so except for a few days, I'll be able to watch the games live, I"ll try to DVR the games when I'll be working but I'm afraid I will know the results before getting home.

At 8h30 Terrance Blanchard and his quintet will take the place in the Théâtre Jean Duceppe and you can finish your evening with the formation Punk Bop that involves the talented group of Ari Hoenig , Tigran Hamasyan , Matt Penman, Gilad Hekselman. The other way to go to have yourself a Masada Marathon, the first early part will showcase Zorn presents the groups Bar Kokhba, the Jamie Saft Trio, the Ben Goldberg Quartet, Mycale, Erik Friedlander performing solo, and the Masada Sextet and the late show will present performances by Mark Feldman and Sylvie Courvoisier, Dreamers, Uri Caine performing solo, the Masada String Trio and Electric Masada. Good memories by reminding me of the late Sam the Record Man, a real music store, they don't make them like that nowadays -

All i had was tape cassettes so as soon as I had the dough I started buying them it was around the early 90s when I actually had a job that paid enough to buy them. -
Montreal jazz fest and Suoni 2010

June the 30th, for the last day of june we have a bit of everything, you like pianists well how about veteran local player François Bourassa playing solo in the Chapelle du Bon Pasteur, too churchlike for your tastes, well if you're more old school the bar Upstairs will feature Geoff Keezer who will accompany Joel Miller and his trio. Like reconstituted standards, Porgy and Bess will be replayed by Ron Di Lauro and directed by Joe Muccioli. Gypsy music afficionados won't want to miss the all star bash that will be Gypsie Planet with Christian Escoudé, Marcel Azzola, Florin Niculescu, David Reinhardt, Darryl Hall and Jean-Baptiste Laya. Modern music will have two of its finest representatives with the Christine Jensen big band which in my book delivered the best jazz CD of 2010 and later in the evening Dave Douglas with his formation Keystone will be another great demonstration of where jazz is in 2010. Take notice that Manu Katché will end his series by bringing with him excellent guitarist Sylvain Luc and bass master Richard Bona Finally if you are tired of be bop and wanna listen to hip hop, you can't go wrong by picking The Roots. I will be attending the Jensen concert for the 3rd time in one year and will gladly see Dave Douglas to end the evening -

June the 29th will be the day of the big outside show, at this moment of writing it was not announced yet. It is usually an almost off day regarding inside gigs. However those who want to avoid the huge crowds that the big event usually attracts have still a few options this year. L'Astral will offer an homage to the late Len Dobbin which will feature the artist that was about to play when Len passed away at the Upstairs club last year, the pianist Felix Stussi will play with his formation plus fine Montreal trombonist Jean-Nicolas Trottier. Also the Flamenco series will keeep on be in action and will produce a show with Diego El cigala. I will be attending both shows
