  1. Happy Vibes!
  2. I've never understood the press' comparison of Oasis to the Beatles. Sure, maybe the Beatles - from 25-30 years before - inspired them, but no more so than hundreds of other pop-rock Brit bands. Actually had a couple of really good albums in them before the usual "personal problems" tore them apart.
  3. BEST BRITISH SONG 1. A Day In The Life - The Beatles 2. Waterloo Sunset - The Kinks 3. Wonderwall - Oasis 4. God Save The Queen - Sex Pistols 5. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen 6. My Generation - The Who 7. Angels - Robbie Williams 8. Life on Mars? - David Bowie 9. Sympathy For The Devil - Rolling Stones 10. Unfinished Sympathy - Massive Attack Really glad to see the Kinks so high up the list!
  4. I see a poll in the near future...
  5. You can't make this stuff up! You've heard of the "bad Hemingway" contest? We ought have a "bad liner notes" contest - but who'd wanna read them all and pick a "winner?"
  6. Love Mose Allison dearly. On many days I consider him my favorite male jazz singer - or at least wordsmith. Glad to see this one come out. His version of "You Belong to Me" is a favorite - I have it on a British comp CD - and it was one of the few "stumpers" on my BFT way back when. I've always thought him an underrated pianist, so hopefully this will gain him some added recognition in that regard.

I remember reading about this in Starlog! Didn't Mike Kaluta do the art?
  8. I gotta admit, these things freak the shit out of me.
  9. I believe that's called Listomania. Ken Russell once made a film about it back in the '70s, but I didn't see it because I'm afraid of Ken Russell films...
  10. careful w/ them Phillips. i had some and a couple of them peeled like and onion. boo, hiss. ← Hmm. Thanks for the warning. But I've never had any problem, with them or any CDR brand in fact. The only bad CDRs I ever used were some generic (and ultra cheap at the time) Office Depot type that I bought once around 5-6 years ago.
  11. I have my favorites - TDK - but I usually wait til they're on sale or, if desperate, buy whatever is on sale. I just bought a 100 disc stack of Phillips for something like $12. They work perfectly, but since I usually just write on all of my CDRs I don't like the "busy" graphics that get in the way on the Phillips.
  12. Bump for those who might have been away over the weekend but might be able to help...
  13. is there a link to his list?
  14. Yeah, I bought one of the discs from Mosaic a couple of years ago, then I found another one on Ebay and a third in used CD store. I have a CDR of the one I'm missing, but I thought I'd try to piece together at least a loose set. What can I say? I got nothing better to do.
  15. I've been slowing piecing this set together one disc at a time - I'm always surprised at what one can find used! - but I still need disc 2 of this Mosaic set. Don't want a CDR, but the real thing. Can anyone help?

  19. I was digging through the ol' collection today and came across some Blue Note jukebox singles/EPs that I won on Ebay a few years back. These aren't 45s, but 33s. I think they were all sealed when I bought them, but I opened a couple of them at the time to spin. They still have their jukebox labels and album cover stickers. I thought they were pretty neat and thought some of you might be interested in seeing them...
  20. Oh, I know, Lon. Didn't mean to sidetrack the thread. I think it's due to living/working in Hollywood that it seems like everyone out here wants/thinks they can be in pictures. Gets one a bit jaded if you know what I mean. Wonder what you think of Andie McDowell? - which again sidetracks since she's already in the movies. I know a lot of people who think she's a terrible actress - and certainly not classically trained - but I love her on screen. She has such a natural presence that to me is just like someone not acting. Almost the exact opposite to me of Meryl Streep, who I really disliked for the longest time because I always felt she was acting too much. Anyhow, here's someone I used to think had potential...
  21. It's all a matter of degree. No, you don't have to be a great actor/actress to be a star, but you'd be giving awards to Keanu and Jessica if you saw enough films with people who really couldn't act.
  22. Looks kinda like Ashley Judd. Lot's of attractive people out there, but the question is can they act?
  23. I believe these are Hoboken yuppies...
