  1. Also look into the JBuds available on Amazon. The "list" price is ridiculous, but the actual cost (like 80% off all the time) is very reasonable for earphones that are far better than the ones that come with iPods, etc.
  2. For what it's worth... http://www.npr.org/2011/02/07/133479768/the-mix-the-jazz-100 Pretty "conservative" list overall, but due, I think, to how it was compiled. When you're asked to pick a top 3 or 5 best/favorite jazz tracks it's hard not to fall back on some Miles or Bird or Brubeck and the like. Personally I think a Top 200-500 would be more diverse and interesting.
  3. That suck, Bill. Take care of yourself!
  4. Thanks!
  5. Super Bowl XXXXX looks cooler.
  6. I doubt many alt. takes still exist from this period (if they ever did) as the tapes would have been lost in the Atlantic fire.
  7. Only one listen so far, but I'm really digging most of it. Will supply some guesses soon.
  8. It's just an intentional misspelling of "post." It's making fun of a perpetual poster (and misspeller) on the other board.
  9. Chewy, you really should check out Stereocentral. It's the kind of forum that was made for guys like you.
  10. http://stereocentral.tv/phpbb/index.php Just look at some of the newer posts. There's a lot of irreverent (but often funny) crap you may have to wade through, but the pertinent stuff should be fairly obvious. It's such an in-joke-ish and self-referential site, though, that I can't imagine it appealing to anyone who doesn't regularly follow the Hoffman forum. And yes, Chewy, they poke some fun at you as well.
  11. I find it all very unfortunate since, apparent megalomania notwithstanding, I find SH's remastering work - as evidenced by his DCC discs and the newer Music Matters LPs - to be exceptional.
  12. Yeah, Pug's been doing a good job of explaining how the sausage is made over there - and it ain't pretty. Lots of verboten topics over there (as always), but not sure why Organissimo now makes the list. Insane.
  13. Nice shots, Chris! It's almost 80 out here today, and dare I say I miss the snow.
  14. Got a shipped notice today. I'm excited to see exactly what I'll get. Hope this thing pans out. You never know. I once found discs 1-4 of the Andrew Hill Mosaic for $5.99 from a local store.
  15. Not an album title, but along similar lines... the Braxton Brothers were not all what I was expecting. I don't think they're really related to Anthony. At all.
  16. I was gonna pass this up as I'm not that much an OP fan (despite having a fair number of albums), but I may need to grab this after all given the price.
  17. Especially since he first offered them almost a week ago.
  18. Great Oscar Peterson Mosaic deal on Ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/Complete-Clef-Mercury-Studio-Recordings-Box-set-Impor-/270684482590?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_CDs_CDs_GL&hash=item3f060d6c1e#ht_1459wt_1137
  19. Yeah, and all over Facebook. My wife linked me to it this morning, and now it's everywhere I look. It's a great deal unless you're conspiracy minded.
  20. IIRC, that warehouse fire destroyed primarily unreleased stuff and alternate takes. I don't think album masters were stored there and/or destroyed.
  21. They're a bit pricier than the Mosaics, but not much - what, $20 compared to $18/disc? And the packaging of the jazz boxes that I've seen have been tasteful and nice - square boxes, smaller than Mosaics, but more compact. Don't know about the notes. I think Mosaics are pricier than they should be as well (at least for a quick sale), but at least the Universal/Hip-O stuff can occasionally be found discounted.
  22. There's a live gig that can be listened to (and hopefully enjoyed) on NPR right now.
  23. I probably have a couple thousand LPs but only a dozen or two are really any good.
  24. Does this mean you're not particularly interested in hearing new jazz releases like the two I mentioned, or new titles from similar labels? Not at all. I still pick up the occasional newer release or even buy downloads from Amazon and elsewhere (losing Aimestreet really hurt!), but honestly I've also been finding many newer releases in the bargain bins a well. Found a copy of Hartigan Ensemble for a buck (yes, the double disc!) and various Clean Feed and other indie labels as well. But my tastes are eclectic and I'll pick up almost anything if it's cheap enough. The problem is more that I now have such a backlog of stuff to listen to that some of the newer releases simply get put on hold. And yes, I do realize that there's a "devaluation of music" going on, at least of the physical product. On the other hand, I'm exposing myself to many more artists than I did previously.
