  1. Only seven times better.
  2. And I thought life wasn't easy for a boy named Sue...
  3. Cool site... http://www.humandescent.com/index2.shtml
  4. Okay, now that we've settled on the Organissimo (dry) t-shirt contest, I suggest we move on to the wet contest post haste...
  5. "Asymmetrical?" "Unstable?" Gosh, you've just described a large portion of us here on the forum. Truth in advertising and all that... Seriously, I'm with Jim and a few others in really digging the "crossword" design... but with one exception. I prefer the small version of the crossword logo on the front with the "big O target" on the back. LOL. I can just see each of designing slightly different shirts - heck, one-of-a-kind would make them really collectible!
  6. Oh, I don't have any objection. But one could (and some do, with legitimacy) make the claim that the artist didn't intend for their music to be recorded in such a way and that the artist isn't profiting from it in any case. For example, didn't some of the "bootleg" Mingus albums/CDs that Sue is always trying to stifle originally come from European radio broadcasts? For that matter, is there really that much of a difference between taping a live jazz concert off the radio or covertly in a club? Many think the first one is okay, but would call the second one a bootleg. (In neither case am I referring to selling the recordings; just recordings made for personal use and/or trading.) It's not my intention to cast any stones - I too have "tapes" - but I find the moral/ethical arguments both for and against such things very interesting.
  7. "Piracy," by strict definition, is an absolute no-no. I'm curious what people think about having, listening to, or trading live radio broadcasts...
  8. Well, I've never bought a bootleg... -_-
  9. Where do they say their versions of these discs originated? I believe they're Xanadu needle drops (from freshly opened copies)
  10. In this case their business practice appears to be to release material that's not available elsewhere on CD. That's one business practice I can support guilt-free. I didn't realize that this is the "Feurst" and "Second Set" material. I do have these as mp3 downloads from emusic, but I haven't gotten around to listening to them. I'll have to remedy that toot sweet... B)
  11. I'd be more than happy to donate, too, but wasn't the last big outtage due to a storm that affected servers across the entire midwest? I love this site but I ain't donating that much!
  12. Isn't c**t British slang for a cigarette?

  14. Yeah, it was slower than normal this morning, but I don't know if it was just a temporary thing or a veiled hint that we should pay for premium service...
  15. Too bad "Organissimo: All About Jazz" wouldn't work...
  16. Agreed! Maybe the words "the best jazz forum on the net" could be put inside the orange circle on the back side (or whichever side the big, text-less circle is). Sort of like this, but centered with the revised text...
  17. Hey I really like it in black! So which way are we leaning for "front" and "back?" I prefer the big "O" on the back, with the smaller text on the front - I think it looks classier that way. I suppose it depends on what we "want" the shirts for. If we want it as a walking advertisement to attract new people to an on-line jazz forum - well, then, I'm not sure if it's all that effective. If that's the case, then it definitely needs "jazz" plastered over it somewhere. But I prefer the more understated logo approach. I'd prefer it if someone asked me what Organissimo was, especially if they were attracted to the bold design of the graphic. To me, the shirt's less an advertisement to others than it is a symbol of this cool club we belong to here.
  18. This is my first choice...
  19. This is still my favorite. Simple, bold, striking design. I think the "forum" additions that came later only clutters it up. Also, I'd keep the center circle white (or whatever background color the shirt is) and not grey. John's initial design was brilliant - let's not screw it up by overthinking it.

Then you must *really* hate Marsallis' album of Monk tunes...
  21. Dan, your assumptions would be correct except for the whole time machine thing. Please get your facts straight...
  22. Guilty, no question. I might be able to buy the bit (in theory, not in the implausible specifics that Dan outlines above) that the cops did some tampering if O.J. was a more, uh, average black man. But this man was a celebrity, and in L.A. that's more important than being black or white. Everyone loved him; I used to work two doors away from O.J.'s house and saw him often (though never met him). The only ones who saw this as a racial issue/crime was the jury...
  23. My thoughts exactly! Now a *daring* comic strip would have a character complaining about Charlie Parker playing "too many notes."
  24. Ah! Just received this today. Many thanks, Daniel - I'm looking forward to giving this a spin...
