Hey Precious-Metal-Limbed-Man, I was just now compiling the exact same thing... Actually, the only one that hasn't been guessed correctly *at all* is number 4. I believe that someone did mention the artist performing number 15, but not with any conviction - at least it sounded like a wild guess. Number 6 has pretty much been figured out as well, though I won't confirm anything just yet. I'm really quite surprised that no one has pinned down tracks 7 and 12 definitively. I thought those would be easy ones. Actually, the correct artists have been mentioned by several people (and even the title of 12, IIRC). I'll consider some "wiggle room" with these in case anyone wants to sleuth a bit more. But the answers to these two are here in the discussion...

I had been planning to post answers later today or tomorrow, but because the board was down all weekend I think I'll wait a few more days. I also know a few people have yet to recieve (or have only just received) their discs...

You're very right, Brad, about me digging that artist, but "Open the Door, Richard" is not one of his tracks. There are many versions of that tune/comedy routine, but the one on the BFT comes from another band with more genuine jazz creds...

I "had" to order both sets last week. I'm really digging the Kelly/Chambers box... -

Thank god, we're back! Don't get me wrong, I dig AAJ too, but if I had to read one more stupid post by JazzRules...

Too much information! -
Anybody ever hear Bob Dylan's version of "You Belong to Me?"
-
Yep, trust Jim on track 6.... You guys have most of them. I'll try to toss off a few hints later in the day, but I want to give others a chance. Plus I'm swamped here at work...

Oh MAN! That would have been wicked FUN! (I wish I had thought of that...)
-
"... and many more!"

Again: I don't think anyone wants to make too big an issue out of this. Let's all just try to be aware that some sort of acknowledgement is expected/appreciated (whether specific comments or just a simple "I got it, thanks"). But if someone *repeatedly* signs up and doesn't contribute then I think it's perfectly acceptable for the next compiler to say "Uh uh, no soup for you!"

Man, this is just calling out for an internet prank: a website devoted to the session, "reviews" of the session planted here and there (could we get one in AMG?), even an OOP listing on Amazon. If it becomes "real" enough, maybe Michael would *have* to release it! B)

I dig the BB, but I've never quite "gotten" the appeal of Smile (or, rather, the variously compiled boots of the Smile material). "Heroes & Villains" is a cool tune, I like "Cabinessence," and "Good Vibrations" is a stone classic, but the rest of it's very hit-or-miss for me and a few tracks are almost unlistenable. Still, I'm very eager to hear what Brian finally puts together...

Cool story indeed! Now you've got me curious - yet another album to seek out...

To add: only one report so far of any of the discs I just sent turning up cracked. I felt a bit more comfortable not using cardboard because it was a "double" and I felt two CDs made the package a bit more sturdy in the first place. I had initially intended to buy a bunch of those nifty little CD mailers, but I ran out of time (and didn't want to shell out the extra bucks). I ended up using spare supplies from home and work. Generally a CD is a pretty sturdy thing so I wouldn't worry too much about elaborate packaging. Keep the costs down and your time spent packing them to a minimum.

I think *a lot* of people are gonna be surprised who this is. It'll make sense later, I think, but he's not what one might expect on this disc - and yet I think it fits right in...

Well, Chris, sorry to break it to you (or Weizen for that matter), but I have to say that I've never developed a fondness for the brewed hops and barley. Can't stand the stuff actually. In fact, I think it was the utter ostracism that that caused me in college that turned me into the lonely jazz fan that I am. Margaritas on the other hand...

Ah, I see that you'ver been reading the BFT 11 thread...
-
Dan, no - nothing quite so extreme. I think it becomes pretty clear who does and who doesn't contribute over the span of a few BFTs. Lately, most compilers have posted a running list of those who signed up, so the names of the participants are a matter of public record. If certain people repeatedly pop up on participant lists but then fail to contribute - repeatedly! - then perhaps the next compiler can send a polite PM asking that person specifically to chime in with some thoughts. I don't think Draconian measures are needed - except for that Catesta bastard of course - and I think it's completely up to the compiler in such a case whether or not to send something on. I'd be very reluctant to exclude anyone who wanted to participate, but at the same time if someone, say three or four times, fails to contribute anything at all then it's perfectly acceptable to exclude him/her from future tests. As we know, several people have dropped out for a round or two when they know that they'll be too busy to respond - I probably should have done that myself a few times - and I think that's commendable. But I also have no problem when someone - especially a regular participant - wants to take part but then can't due to something coming up at the last minute.
-
My thoughts exactly. I do agree with Dan that "life sometimes gets in the way" - don't I know it - but if one takes the time to request a BFT test and to presumably listen to it, then one should at least make even a miminal effort to respond to it - if only to say "I got it, thanks, but I hate everything on it." (And no, I'm not directly quoting anyone here. ) I wouldn't want to cut someone from the roster if they failed to respond to a test - or maybe even two of them in a row - but if it becomes a pattern then by all means they should be at least warned. The fun of it, at least to me, is in the participation; if we don't have that then why bother?

What a CD holder this would have been.

No worries, guys, my skin is mighty thick. I'm having a blast reading your coments, jibes and all. Honestly, I find many of the negs more interesting than the positive responses (though I worry with the negs that you may not be enjoying the discs, warts and all). I suspected that most of you would not like a couple of the tracks. Heck, there are a few tracks that even I don't dig all that much but I thought they'd be good fodder for discussion and/or I was curious what others would say about them. For those of you wondering what a couple of the tracks are "doing here," all I'll say (for now) is that I have my reasons...
