Just a hint about using these "free" codes: they appear to work on on 2-3 disc sets while the "bonus points" freebies don't. So I try to use these to pick up any 2-disc sets that I might need.

Ooooh, my reaction was just the opposite. Loved it, while I thought both of those other films rather forgettable. (Yeah, I'm the one dude who didn't care for Lebowski.)

You know, Chris, I find this accusation ironic coming from someone who, rightly or wrongly, must repeatedly defend himself from charges of antisemitism. I don't think I've ever seen what I assume is an offending post by Youmustbe, only posts proclaiming your animosity towards him. But here you go, disrupting an otherwise interesting thread.

Anthony Braxton and Akiyoshi/Tabackin Mosaics up for pre-order
RDK replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Well, it's kind of ridiculous to think that this would really be "running low" so quickly. It would be unprecedented for Mosaic - by a factor of 10 at least. -
I'm just the opposite. I find Ella's Songbook series to be the foundation stone of jazz vocals - it's indispensable. I have almost all of it already on CD, but picked it up just have a convenient mp3 version.

Anthony Braxton and Akiyoshi/Tabackin Mosaics up for pre-order
RDK replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Be sure to watch the video podcast. I know it's been said before, but for an artist whose music often seems to me to be so "intellectual" and "cold," the man himself is vibrant, personable, and quite humorous. I was on the fence about this as I'm not Braxton's biggest fan, but I've always found his arista recordings to be among his most accessible and engaging. The samples confirm this, moving this set way up the list for my future Mosaic purchases. Am I wrong in recommending this set to someone hearing Braxton for the first time? I don't think so. -
I like the new artwork. "Critical Mass" as well. Better than many, not as good as some. At least it looks intentional.

Yes, a great deal - and a really marvelous sampler. This is the same one available for $10 on that "Canadian deals" thread, but I'd pay the few extra bucks to grab it from Amazon because the Puretracks user interface sucks.

Things you wish nobody had thought up...

Point taken! Seriously, a lot of that same shit goes on out here too - though either ironically or amazingly I just heard some recent study that declared L.A. the second (iirc) greenest city in the U.S. based on some specific emissions. Has to do with the weather and relative non-use of air conditioners... -

My theory is to make disposable plastic (or paper) grocery bags the same price as the reusable canvas bags. In other words, charge $2 per bag, no matter what kind it is, paper, plastic, or canvas. If everyone had a pay a $2 surcharge for every bag they DIDN'T bring to the store for reuse, that'd fuckin' cure people REAL quick of using BILLIONS of 'disposable' bags per year. I'm serious. Do most people really just toss away the paper or plastic bags they bring home from the market? I dunno, maybe it's just me, but whether paper or plastic I reuse them for either trash or recycling bags in my kitchen. Heck, the bags I get from the market come in handy in my house. Don't understand all the complaints. -

Where the heck do you shop? For as many decades as I can remember, cashiers have asked me, "Would you like a bag with that?" They rarely force bags upon you, and most people I know only take one when they have, well, a bag-full of stuff that they need to easily carry around. -
I was considering grabbing a couple of the Motown sets, but I hate DRM'd WMA and have no way to play the files (directly at least) except through WMP on my computer. I use Squeezbox at home - and love it! - but it won't play the DRM'd files, making them almost useless to me. I suppose I could burn them and then re-rip them - which would also allow me to attach the metadata automatically from the web.

Now you have me thinking about that sticky tape they use on the Blue Note CDs! (Which is much harder to remove than the similar tape they use on OJCs for example) -
It's not a palindrome, of course, but They Might Be Giants recorded a song called "I Palindrome I."
-
A couple of the Motown Complete Singles boxes are avaiulable in WMA for $9.99 as well - but I don't do WMA. (Not that there's anything wrong with WMA, but the way I tend to listen I need the files DRM-free to transport.)

Common mistake. Even Scott Young, Neil's own father, called him to congratulate him on another #1 song when he heard it. Now that's funny! And yes, Pete produced "Something in the Air." I think it was Pete's brother or close friend in the band and Townshend really helped them along.

Hint for those living in the U.S.: while the registration for the site requires you to input a Canadian province and postal code... they don't actually ask for an address and you don't need one when entering your CC number for a purchase. They don't, after all, need to mail anything to you. It appears to work. Though I will say the site navigation and download manager sucks. Lots of box sets can be had for bargain prices. Not Unit, but two more Malcolm Braff Combo discs dropped on emusic today: The Preacher & Together. Both so far. Very Mal Waldron/Abdullah Ibrahim-ish.

Art Pepper-the Complete Galaxy Recordings
RDK replied to jazzkrow's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Yeah, I only got the cube boxes from the Big-Z, but at something like $2/disc I'm not complaining. I still laugh at the flimsy cardboard packaging they used to ship to the U.S. - but everything arrived fine. -

Holy crap: 88 - that's gotta be good, especially for L.A.

Books Banned at One Time or Another in the USA

Ah, the judge probably just said that so he didn't have to read the damn thing! -
I'm waiting for a proper re-release of "Jazz Goes to Day Care." Didn't 32Jazz release that one?

I don't agree; silly liberals come out for banning books quite often. But at least we can agree on the silly part... You are correct. I should have said "closed-minded" rather than "conservative." But I think you can understand why I may have been confused. -_-
