  1. Indeed. There are a bunch (possibly dozens now) of youtube parodies re-worded from this clip. My favorite is of Hitler going apeshit after being stuck with HD-DVD instead of BlueRay.
  2. Happy Birthday, Chris! Hopefully the whole country can pitch in and get you a fine new present... albeit just over a couple of weeks late.

    RIP Dave McKenna

Didn't discover McKenna until relatively recently - thank Concord for that! - but he was a very fine pianist. Was listening to his duet album with Joe Temperley just the other day. RIP
  4. I see "loose" Mosaic sets - both recent sets and some long oop - in the used stores all the time. No surprise that these are up for sale.
  5. PM sent, Al. I've been down, but not out. I'm also good to go with little notice if need be.
  6. Someday I'll get through it all. It's better than not having them. To put it in perspective: All of the albums I just mentioned cost me a total of $25. What booster packs at BEST Buy are you getting? at teh Best Buy near me, where the cards finally started appearing, a card for 100 songs is $29.95. They're the same as the Circuit City packs, except that the CC ones expired at the end of Sept. while the BB ones are good through October. Still on sale at $5/65 downloads - though they're apparently now getting hard to find.
  7. Someday I'll get through it all. It's better than not having them. To put it in perspective: All of the albums I just mentioned cost me a total of $25. I know what you mean. I've probably bought 20+ cards over the last 5-6 months and have downloaded well over a hundred albums. The neatest thing is being able to take chances on artists that I've never heard before, especially European artists on discs that would otherwise be very expensive imports (if I could even find them here).
  8. Nice contribution, Chuck.
  9. "I think we should start talking about starting a... dude, I'm hungry..."
  10. Not to mention, bragging rights can be pretty damn cool.
  11. Stay safe, James. I know that area well - my parents are just SE of you in San Marcos. They and my sister were evacuated during the fires last year.
  12. This should be interesting. I like Zeitlin very much, but don't have any of this early material.
  13. More Timeless and a bunch of Sun Ra showed up today too!
  14. Probably depends on the type of TV it is. Plasma or LCD should have a glass screen, which may or may not have a protective layer of some sort on it. A DLP screen is plastic and usually replaceable; one might be able to buff it out, but I'm not sure. I realize I'm not offering you any good advice at all. Best to do a search for similar incidents over at the AVS forums.
  15. Just the opposite for me right now.
  16. Picked it last night (only $13.99 at Target!) after listening to it last week on NPR. Was briefly tempted by the 3-disc deluxe version (mostly wanted the book), but opted instead to acquire the third disc by other means. May fans are complaining about the price of the deluxe set, and even someone from Dylan's camp apparently shrugged it off and said not to worry, people will get it however/wherever. It is a "bootleg series after all. The music is, not surprisingly, amazing, as Dylan's castoffs have always been remarkable. I'm a big fan of Oh, Mercy, so anything from that period with Lanois is precious to me. Only gripe is that I wish they left the few live cuts off. Not that they aren't good, but they interrupt the mood/style of the studio cuts, imo, and several are available "elsewhere" in better sound. Having seen Dylan just last month, it's so shocking to see/hear the difference between him live and in the studio. His live shows are energetic to be sure, but there's a carelessness about them (both in sound and performance) that, for me at least, minimizes their effectiveness. On record, though, Bob's latter work has been revelatory.
  17. Yeah, Nate, Jeff Gautier is mostly pretty terrific; I've seen him many times here in L.A. He loses me sometimes with his more outside stuff, but he's always interesting and a really nice guy. Billy Bang was a revalation to me when I caught him live last year with El Zabar. I've always respected him, mostly for his more outside playing, but the cat can swing, has a great sense of humor, and knows when to put on a show.
  18. This is what happens when you have the Number 1 jazz album on the charts - now everyone wants to be associated with Organissimo!
  19. Great news! Reminds me that I still need to get a copy - before you guys get too big to sign one for me.

  21. I'm guessing the image marcello posted is not from the sixties... Heck no. I hope it's from about 20 years in the future.
  22. Gotcha. I can't see the image you posted. Still, the gal on the LP does look like her.
  23. Yes, it is a photo of a young Linda Hamilton: http://www.triviatribute.com/lindahamilton.html I dunno. Hamilton was born in 1956, but this site http://forbiddeneye.com/labels/coronet.html shows the Coronet LP from 1965.
