  1. As the kids say, TMI!
  2. It doesn't. Ebay changes haven't made sense in some time.

    2008 Top Ten

Bill, many thanks for the list. I see that many of them are available at emusic, and I've already sampled and tagged many for download. I really appreciate recommendations like these since I'm open-eared/minded, but pretty weak when it comes to actually hearing many of these artists (most of whom seem to be on indie labels).
  4. Re: the L.A. Times, the loss of a jazz critic means almost nothing to them. From an industry blog, "Josh Friedman, who wrote the "Movie Projector" column covering the weekly box office, has been laid off... the Los Angeles Times is now looking for a low-cost freelancer to do it." This is fairly huge news (no pun intended) in a town that survives on movie & TV coverage. Welcome to the future of print journalism...
  5. That's been my problem, too - the "neoclassics" thing - and why my initial thrill at seeing the label on emu has cooled a bit after hearing some samples. I did d/l the Sandke/Inside-Out thing and am really digging that one though.
  6. I dislike Kevin Smith (at least as a filmmaker) intensely, but I like Seth and am deeply in love with Elizabeth Banks. So I'll have to think about this one... edited for a typo because it's late and I'm a little bit high - who woulda thunk they put pot in the popcorn? That's not normally something I'd share, let alone in a post edit, but being a Kevin Smith thread it seemed appropriate.
  7. The Nagel-Heyer label just dropped on Emusic, so any more recommendations would be appreciated.
  8. 6 out of 12 for me too. My college roommate collected porn.
  9. I was initially excited to see this on emusic, but didn't care for the samples I heard. Let us know what you think.
  10. Not specifically jazz-related, but I was in a used CD/record/video store a few months back, and some woman was looking over a shelf of DVDs and asked "What are these?"
  11. Crap! Once again, I've crossed the line...
  12. As I tried to imply above w/o offending, I enjoy the trio, but nine discs of it goes a long, long way for me. There's a reason why most of those Argo LPs are only about 30 minutes long.
  13. But with a better outcome I hope!
  14. This is the kinda thing that Mosaic was made for - complete sets and all - but I have to say that nine discs of this is gonna be a lot to take and pricey to boot. But, damn, getting this all together in one place is gonna be sweet!
  15. Yes, mostly, though I haven't seen his by-line in a while. I'll miss his reviews (of both shows and the occassional album) but I haven't used the LAT to check jazz listings for some time. The best (only?) place to hear about shows, in print at least, is the L.A. Weekly - and Brick's Picks has been a godsend. On-line resources are spotty at best.
  16. IIRC, when Hoffman did the SACDs of the Turrentine and Sonny Clark (which sound amazing), he was going to do a few others as well but claimed at the time that some tapes were damaged.
  17. You presume an awful lot about someone you don't know. "His kind?" And if the requirement for posting here was that one had "something constructive and meaningful to add" then dare I say there'd be a hell of a lot fewer members here.
  18. Why don't you take this up this issue with the moderators, who created a thread category called "Offering and Looking for?" Indeed. I've never seen the harm of someone coming here only to sell - or why it may be better if someone "socializes" first.
  19. Was just listening to this again earlier today and I had almost forgotten how much I dig it. Hard to believe it's been over 5 years now. This, along with a few other things, has me wondering about something I'll have to start another thread about. But meanwhile, who are the chicks?
  20. Turned up on emusic this morning
  21. I thought it was from cosmic rays. Or after Jass got bitten by a radioactive spider...
  22. Yeah, the "gold" part itself was just a marketing gimmick. Now that same gimmick is SACD and vinyl.
  23. If you find them in the cut-out bins, grab them! Many are quite pricey these days and are often the best-sounding digital versions you can buy.
  24. I agree. It's almost worthy of 32 Jazz.
  25. There's a b&w Louis Armstrong cover (very up-close pic) that's frightening.
