  1. Wow. Great link! Many thanks for posting that.

    The DIW label

Where you finding cut-out bins these days?
  3. This popped up on emusic the other day, but had no details (yet) as to personal, etc. Glad to hear it's a good 'un, though Anderson is a bit hit or miss for me.
  4. Can't comment on that one specifically, but I've found all the ECM CDs to sound very good - just like the vinyl.
  5. A couple of David Murray Black Saint albums just showed up (though only one track each for some reason). This would be a major addition to emusic if they landed Black Sainst/Soul Note!
  6. Now that's a Mingus title!
  7. Every time I hear about the Andorrans I think of this guy...
  8. Boy are you going to be disappointed. Okay, maybe not God, but certainly one of the hipper angels.
  9. Wasn't this also bootlegged under the more grammatically correct title, "For Whom Do You work?"
  10. One problem that the article above makes clear is the perception that "high fidelity" takes big $$$. Five grand for a needle? Almost 3 grand for a cable? Anyone not totally informed who looks at that will agree that you can get "almost" as good sound out of a cheap iPod and ear buds.
  11. It's a matter of file size. One can fit up to ten times the number of mp3 files on a drive than you can lossless files.
  12. Terrific film - highly recommended!
  13. Just heard. So very sad. R.I.P.
  14. This was "evidence" leaked from a highly contentious divorce case (that's been going on for years). I doubt Baldwin will get Father of the Year honors for this, but there's a lot to this than just "dad beating up on daughter over the phone."
  15. Again, have you actually tried the mp3s from emusic? No, they aren't lossless, but they're pretty darn good and you probably can't hear the difference on most systems (or, at least, in your car while driving).
  16. I just read that he was an English major, and that his creative writing was so disturbing that he was encouraged to seek counseling. Can't imagine counseling could have made a difference. We've gotta be careful going in this direction too. If something you write is considered representative of what you could/would actually do, someone like Tarantino would be the biggest serial killer of them all. Back in high school I wrote a short story in which a guy shot and killed Santa Claus. And yet I turned out okay. Um...
  17. Well said. Riley's one of those guys Ive seen probably dozens of times around town, at various gigs, but we tend to take our local heroes lightly. Now, of curse, I wish I'd paid more attention. RIP
  18. Yeah, what Clem said in our crossed post! I will say this about Jackie McLean, though - last time he came through town he played a free outdoor gig at the museum, then capped it with a couple o' nights at Billy's World Stage.
  19. Of course OC (or Sonny, or anyone) can ask for whatever they want, have no obligation to tour and/or perform, and can choose their venues as they see fit, but performing in front of eager fans is a long standing music tradition (duh!) and seems especially essential (though ask smarter people than me why) when it comes to jazz, an improvisational art form. I can only remember one time in recent member when OC played in LA (LA!) and that was last year at Disney Hall. It was a sold out show, of course, but I imagine it was very much like a J@LC audience, with few of them otherwise slumming it at the Bakery or Catalinas or god help them the World Stage. Ironically, I'd bet that if you asked many of those who saw OC there (or any other concert hall venue) what other "jazz artists" they'd seen recently they'd probably respond with Wynton's name. It's gotten to the point that I don't even care if I ever see OC live in these kinds of venues. Give me some struggling kid (or aging vet) who's still eagerly working his ass off in a club.
  20. Gotta say, I'm with Clem on this one.
  21. You're a damn fickle viewer, Guy. Your up-and-down posts in this thread are hilarious!

  23. ...this shit happens all over the world as we speak.....not just in America....sad none the less! Yeah, horrible as this is, it's hard to compare this with what's going on in, say, Darfur. Why do they have to be compared? Not trying to compare (though I guess i did say "compare" -_- - just pointing out that this sort of thing doesn't happen "only in America."

  25. I agree as well. Old habits are hard to break, but they're slowly changing. Still, there's a ton of stuff that I've discovered, taken a chance on, or otherwise isn't available outside of emusc that I've been able to download and hear - and I wouldn't trade that for anything. The thing is, I've got a couple thousand CDs that I can play on my semi-audiophile system and convince myself that they sound better than any digital downloads out there. But I have a ton of mp3 (and lossless) files as well, and I've mostly stopped burning them to CD and simply play them through my mp3 player or through my computer here at work. I simply consider them different formats, don't usually see the need to purchase both (or rip/burn one to the other), and treat them as if they're CDs or LPs - I play my CDs through a disc player, my LPs on a turntable, and my mp3s on a computer. I have more than enough music to go around, still buy more than ever before, and have my ears opened by stuff that I otherwise wouldn't purchase (or even find) at full price.
