Leith Stevens - War of the Worlds, When Worlds Collide (La-La Land) -
Klute did a really good job of capturing the aesthetics of Italian giallos. Michael Small's score channels both Morricone and Nicolai.

$50 for five vintage jazz albums seems steep to me. If it were, say, $19.99 for five coasters and five albums, that may be worthwhile. Obviously, the audience for this product probably does not frequent message boards like this. -
It seems that by the 1950s, this had become a thing on mixed orchestral/vocal albums. The group singers may sing only a couple of lines of the song, including the title, but otherwise sing wordless vocals. I wonder when this began. Les Baxter was doing it at least as early as 1954. I've wondered also about Paul Weston, who is considered to be the father of mood music, but his early albums are mostly orchestral.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Teasing the Korean replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
They have had this gig on Sunday nights for nearly 30 years. Try to go next time you are in NY. Arturo strikes me as a very sweet and humble guy. He seems genuinely moved that all these people come out to see them every weekend. -

On Sunday, June 16th, I saw Arturo O'Farrill and the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra at Birdland. They played the entire Afro-Cuban Jazz Suite. -
Last night, Ms. TTK and I were out having dinner with my bro and his wife. The musical selection was very good. At one point, a singer came on. My brother asked who it was. I listened. "It sounds like Rosemary Clooney," I said, noting the combination of her vocal quality, with that slight bit of rasp. So I took out the Shazam machine, but by this point, the soloists were blowing, and I couldn't get a read. Finally, Rosemary Clooney or whoever she is returned, and the Shazam machine told me the song is "Treat Me Rough" by Betty Bennett. I don't think I have ever heard of Betty Bennett. Any fans?

Quartette Tres Bien / Charles Williams

They were basically working in Three Sounds/Ramsey Lewis territory, with the addition of Latin Percussion. Yet another example of secondhand Decca LPs being hard to find. I have two of their Decca albums, and one on Atlantic. -
“Ninety Minutes With Cannonball Adderley”

He's got the voice to do Cannonball. And I could listen to Cannonball talk non-stop, forget the sax. -

We have to make a film about this and get Wendell Pierce to play Cannonball! -
Also, it's from the 1980s. "From 1984 to 1986, Allen created and hosted Steve Allen's Music Room which aired on the newly formed Disney Channel.[28] This was a talk show with jazz vibraphonist Terry Gibbs leading a studio band with the top Los Angeles musicians to include Conte Candoli, Pete Candoli, Carl Fontana, Med Flory, Plas Johnson, Alan Broadbent, and drummer Frankie Capp. 27-year-old Bill Maher was the announcer and "sidekick." The show featured musicians and entertainers including Melba Moore, Joe Williams, Paul Williams, Burt Bacharach, Anthony Newley, Rosemary Clooney, Lou Rawls, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, and Henry Mancini. Allen spun off a similar show for Disney, Steve Allen's Comedy Room, this time with professional comedians talking about comedy styles." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Allen

I did not know that! I would refer to it as mechanized, geometric, and futuristic. It is like the musical equivalent of Richard Powers' paperback illustrations.

It didn't stop him from being photographed jogging in a track suit! Love that album cover, and I think that was my first Monk album!
