I have recently made a trip on the "most difficult to access part of my record collection" (on a technical point of view). Among the records, I selected some : my criteria was : "I can't even remember where and when i bought those record, and what was the inspiration of the moment (if there was any)". By the musician's name i have a little idea of the kind of music... but i've no time to listen to them all. So, what record would you listen to first ?
Here's the list :
The "jazz modes" on Seeco.
The "hall Keller Trio, "Debut" on Sound Record 602 (wow !! this label issued 601 records before this one ?)
Phineas Newborn "Jamaica"
Tony Perkins "on a rainy afternoon" RCA victor
Joe Holiday "Holiday for jazz" decca
John Graas "Jazzmantics" decca
Slide Hampton "Horn of Plenty" Strand
Corky Corcoran "The sound of Love" Epic
Roland Kirk "We Free Kings" Mercury
Paul Knopf "Enigma of a Day" PLayback
Marv Jenkins "At the rubayat room" reprise
Bobby Brack 'Kent "State Jazz date"
Russ Garcia "Wigville"
Milt Hinton "A bit of the Bues" rca Victor
Thank you for your knowledgeable advice....
Junior Cook, "Junior's Cookin" Jazzland orange DG original. Nothing unforgettable here, only a fine hard bop album. Blue Mitchell is as usual : the best of the session.
Bill Jennings and Leo Parker "Billy in the Lion's Den", King black label DG
Sahib Shihab "Jazz Sahib" Savoy red DG
Tommy Flanagan "Giant Steps" Enja, definitely my favourite Flanagan record.
one thing has always amazed me in this record : it is the contrast between the apparently tired, exhausted, voice of Lee Morgan at the beginning of the set and the incredible energy of the music that mmediately follows. That is the magic of Jazz.
Vintage guitars for everyone...You 'll find not everything, but many incredible models. And pictures are fine. I don't think they are for sale !!!!!!!
Dave's guitars
Sadly not 150 FF () but not $799.99 either !
Sometimes i meet the seller. He sold me many Blue Note priced nothing. He hates me Good news !! I hate him, too !!
Don't know - but it is already going for way, way more than my copy, which has a far better condition sleeve and at least as good vinyl.
Same as me !! I paid mine (Lex, DG, flat) 150 fr in Nice, 1998. Oh those glorious days of ignorancy....
For some reason I thought mine had DG side 1 but just checked it and it hasn't - so ignore the DG bit ! :rsmile:
wow, that's a relief
Sorry about that Michel, my stereo pressing, NY 'ear', has a deep groove on side 1.
Interesting !! i have never seen a "No Room" DG Stereo !! (and no mono neither)
Agreed. Pyhitcanthropus Erectus (sic) is definitely a good session.
Here's one of my favourite. With Booker Ervin performing an incredible solo on GBPPH. And Rolf Ericson is not bad, too. Too appreciated to match this topic ? Or over unappreciated ? Really don't know :
