Sport: 2007 NBA Play-Offs Pool

What about him, Lakers are not going to trade him, and who has enough to give up to get him anyway????? Phoenix could put together some interesting trades for Kobe. Guy -
Lou Donaldson's best Cadet albums
Guy Berger replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Re-issues
Agreed. As far as I'm concerned, if Universal isn't issuing this stuff then it's fair game for the pirates. If people feel guilty, they should mail a $5 check to Lou. Guy don't think Lou will get 5$ out of any of his albums sold... Yup. On further thought, if you REALLY want to do a good deed, burn or download the album, send 5 bucks to Lou, and donate the rest of the CD price to your favorite charity. Screw Universal AND the pirates. Guy -
was Lifetime's "Emergency!" an influence in prog/met

As David alluded to above, Fripp is certainly no slouch in the "chops" department. I think Hammer was great in the first Mahavishnu Orchestra. (And also on J Abercrombie's Timeless.) Guy -
From the Economist: The Great Wall of Money

Well, I think the article hints at how this could become a big deal. The people that are betting on the market are also those that are more politically empowered -- the middle classes in the big coastal cities. If they lose their shirts, they're going to be pissed, and things may get uncomfortable for the government. Guy -

You really think so? LeBron is a good ball handler and passer and makes a top point guard less of a necessity. (Same with Wade in Miami.) Cleveland's main problem is that aside from LeBron, all their players are slightly above average at best. An upgrade at any position would be a big improvement. Guy -

What part of the rhythmic concept do you mean? Most of the prog-fusion hybrids I've heard have a ton of the asymmetric meters, busy drumming and syncopated rhythms that characterize Mahavishnu's music. Guy -

I don't think Parker is necessarily "great", though I agree that he's very good. Guy -

Mike, I think there were a lot of fusion and prog rock bands that were influenced by Mahavishnu. Guy Please go ahead and drop some names - I'll gladly stand corrected. I'm too lazy to find every single example, but "Mahavishnu" pops up in a lot of band descriptions at the GEPR. I am not sure whether to include mid-70s King Crimson in this list -- while Fripp has denied listening to MO, the lineup is almost exactly identical. Guy -

This is indeed a classic; if it had been on BN it would be mentioned a lot more often. Guy

Thank god this travesty is over. Let me be a contrarian -- I think Duncan should have probably gotten the Finals MVP. Parker's numbers were more impressive, but his contribution was more replaceable than Duncan's. Regardless of whether you agree with me, I think it's interesting that we haven't had a finals MVP who was not the best player on his team in a long time. Joe Dumars in '89? Guy -
I wouldn't bet the farm on this, but it seems pretty plausible. Snape's wholehearted defection in book 6 is a little strange; if Rowling really wanted to make him an agent of Voldemort's, she would have made the character much more conflicted. Guy

I haven't seen the cover before googling it just now, but I don't understand what Sal means. However, maybe Harry and Voldemort will duke it out in the Colosseum.

I'm currently finishing season 3 of Deep Space Nine. Great series, better than Next Generation IMHO, and it keeps getting better and better. The writing and acting for the character Garak is fantastic. Guy

Concord Shutting Fantasy Down and Burying its Tapes?
Guy Berger replied to RDK's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I see this Iron Mountain thing as the best of a set of bad alternatives. I certainly feel better with the tapes there rather than in the hands of the current Concord. Guy -

Guy Berger replied to CJ Shearn's topic in Miscellaneous Music
FWIW, the relevant time frame is the 60s, not the 70s -- that's when most of the prog guys came of musical age. In the King Crimson box Epitaph they have a bunch of band bios from 1969 and I was surprised at some of the names the guys dropped as influences. Guy -

Robert Fripp said in an interview that he was blown away by Lifetime. Overall, I imagine that Mahavishnu was a much bigger influence on prog rock than Lifetime. Guy -
I don't think I'll be picking this up. I may download "Candy and a Current Bun" at some juncture. Guy
