First off, it's pretty clear from Yoshi's booking policy that they're not racist. Second, the article makes it pretty clear that the CD's contents were determined by expediency. If they'd actually been willing to spend time and money on licensing fees, etc, the CD wouldn't be packed with 2nd tier artists. Guy

Clem, from what I've seen of the classical music threads on this forum, they are +90% comparison of different recordings. Actual discussion of the music is more rare. I don't think they're of any higher quality than the popular music threads. Guy

Coltrane owned a varitone and even endorsed it, though he never recorded with it. Guy

A couple of rock guys used electric saxophone -- Chris Wood (Traffic), Ian McDonald (King Crimson). I'm not a big fan of the sound. Also, Lee Konitz played a varitone in the late 60s. Guy
