  1. This is indeed a classic; if it had been on BN it would be mentioned a lot more often. Guy
  2. Thank god this travesty is over. Let me be a contrarian -- I think Duncan should have probably gotten the Finals MVP. Parker's numbers were more impressive, but his contribution was more replaceable than Duncan's. Regardless of whether you agree with me, I think it's interesting that we haven't had a finals MVP who was not the best player on his team in a long time. Joe Dumars in '89? Guy
  3. I wouldn't bet the farm on this, but it seems pretty plausible. Snape's wholehearted defection in book 6 is a little strange; if Rowling really wanted to make him an agent of Voldemort's, she would have made the character much more conflicted. Guy
  4. I haven't seen the cover before googling it just now, but I don't understand what Sal means. However, maybe Harry and Voldemort will duke it out in the Colosseum.
  5. Agreed. As far as I'm concerned, if Universal isn't issuing this stuff then it's fair game for the pirates. If people feel guilty, they should mail a $5 check to Lou. Guy
  6. I'm currently finishing season 3 of Deep Space Nine. Great series, better than Next Generation IMHO, and it keeps getting better and better. The writing and acting for the character Garak is fantastic. Guy
  7. I see this Iron Mountain thing as the best of a set of bad alternatives. I certainly feel better with the tapes there rather than in the hands of the current Concord. Guy
  8. Turtle is a US citizen. Guy
  9. From Tradesports: Tonight's Game ========== Spurs win, 60.0% The Series ========== Spurs win, 97.9% Cavs win in 7, 2.2% Spurs win in 7, 3.5% Spurs win in 6, 13.3% Spurs win in 5, 24.5% Spurs win in 4, 59.2% <------- median forecast
  10. If the Spurs win another one, that's 5 for their DYNASTY. Guy
  11. FWIW, the relevant time frame is the 60s, not the 70s -- that's when most of the prog guys came of musical age. In the King Crimson box Epitaph they have a bunch of band bios from 1969 and I was surprised at some of the names the guys dropped as influences. Guy
  12. freeform -- thanks for the rec. And given the quality of your first few posts, I'm glad you stopped lurking! Guy
  13. Well, Emerson was clearly influenced by jazz. But not necessarily by Lifetime.
  14. Robert Fripp said in an interview that he was blown away by Lifetime. Overall, I imagine that Mahavishnu was a much bigger influence on prog rock than Lifetime. Guy
  15. I don't think I'll be picking this up. I may download "Candy and a Current Bun" at some juncture. Guy
  16. Duncan has at least 4, maybe 5 or 6, great years in him. Assuming that they keep Parker and Ginobili, they'll contend at least through 2011. Guy
  17. Pretty much anything in Fantasy's "Legends of Acid Jazz". Guy
  18. Not sure if that merits an MVP, but he has been doing a great job. LeBron's shooting at around 35% this series. That's abysmal. Guy
  19. I don't completely agree with the "not dynasty" argument above. That said... Out of the three championships they've won this century, they've been fortunate to face two of the weakest teams to make the finals in the past decade ('07 Cavs and '03 Nets). The one time they faced a very good team, the '05 Pistons, they needed 7 games. (And let's not kid ourselves -- the Pistons weren't as good as most of the teams the Bulls beat for their rings.)* I think it's more than that. Since Duncan's arrival ten years ago, the Spurs have won over 70% of their regular season games. No other current team in the league comes close to that. Guy *To be fair, in the western conference playoffs they've had to beat better teams than the Nets, Cavs and Pistons.
  20. If Gibson has another game like last night, they should rename him "Poopie". Guy
  21. A bad parody of Way Out West:
  22. Bruce, I didn't meant it as a serious commentary. You've been scarce on the NBA thread this season... hopefully we'll hear more from you next year. Guy
  23. I think after that game, the NBA is a little closer to death. Guy
  24. From Tradesports: Tonight's Game ========== Spurs win, 53.5% The Series ========== Spurs win, 92.5% Cavs win in 6, 2.3% Cavs win in 7, 4.3% Spurs win in 7, 12.0% Spurs win in 6, 23.0% Spurs win in 5, 28.0% <------- median forecast Spurs win in 4, 29.4%
