  1. Has anyone else had this? It's pretty good. Brewed locally near New Haven. Guy
  2. Gilbert Arenas will opt out of his contract after next season in order to get a better contract via free agency (though he hopes he will get that contract from the Wizards). I guarantee that someone will overpay for this guy. Guy
  3. From Tradesports: Tonight's Game ========== Spurs win, 79.0% The Series ========== Spurs win, 87.0% Cavs win in 5, 3.0% Cavs win in 6, 5.5% Cavs win in 7, 6.5% Spurs win in 7, 19.0% Spurs win in 6, 25.0% <------- median forecast Spurs win in 5, 26.5% Spurs win in 4, 18.0%
  4. Based on my experience... I think that unless your co-workers are diehard jazz nuts or you're completely indifferent to their response, you should keep the jazz to a minimum. Guy
  5. "Bad Boy" is a great tune. One of Lennon's best vocals from the early days. Guy
  6. This album's sound and style is somewhat reminiscent of Filles de Kilimanjaro. Guy
  7. I think Tommy Flanagan would've fit well as the pianist, too. Maybe with Donald Bailey on drums and Sam Jones on bass? Hank Jones, Wynton Kelly, and Red Garland would have been other interesting alternatives. Guy
  8. "ELAINE: No, but they got the chocolate. We'll be going in with a lesser Babka."
  9. Let's call them "unofficial recordings", then. But seriously -- I am guessing that Jim A will want the link deleted. Out of curiosity, for those that have checked out this site, how lossy are the files? I've heard rumors that in some cases tracks aren't separated (ie concerts are one entire long track). Guy
  10. I was also expecting Malone to be higher on the list. I would also push Ginobili up higher (but perhaps that is due to the retirement of the top 5). Shouldn't Nash merit at least an honorable mention? I think it's interesting that many of these egregious floppers are also notorious for dirty play. Guy
  11. These aren't exactly compilations. Past Masters is a collection of non-album tracks and the Anthologies were collections of previously unreleased material. Guy
  12. Yes. But both of these compilations were released 35 years ago. Guy So? Are you suggesting that the market has changed radically? Also, the biggest albums of Bread, Carpenters, Cat Stevens, Presley, Lennon, Manilow & Simon & Garfunkel are all compilations. Compilations are cash cows. MG No, you misunderstand. My point is that EMI hasn't been putting a new Beatles compilation on the market every few years, as record companies seem to do with jazz artists. Even the "1" compilation was a different product than the red and blue compilations. Guy

    Charlie Haden

Me too, but I think he is better recorded on Expectations. Guy

    Charlie Haden

HG -- I completely agree with you about Haden's playing on Science Fiction -- it's incredible. He recorded Expectations* with Keith Jarrett around the same time and his playing there is just as great. Guy ps I mention this album specifically because it's also on Columbia, and Charlie has a very similar sound on it.

    Charlie Haden

???? Was that meant as a compliment? I hear little or no personality in Ron Carter's playing, so perhaps it was meant as a compliment, but I doubt it. I'd trade every Ron Carter solo in my collection for a few bars of Mingus. I have to agree with Paul. All I have to say is that is a weird comment, and if it was intended as an insult, I guess I've heard everything. Guy

    Charlie Haden

Charlie is really fantastic on "War Orphans" from the Motian album Tribute (ECM). Guy
  17. Let's not jump to a hasty conclusion. How many Mosaics does he own? Guy
  18. Ilgauskas is usually a much better shooter. Guy
  19. Understandable - he is a cult figure in rock. Those 13th Floor Elevator records are slightly campy and horribly recorded, but they are also (IMO) among the best of the aggressive psych records of the 60s. The song "You're Gonna Miss Me" had to have been one of the heaviest things that had been recorded at the time. It is a great tune, but I thought the rest of the album wasn't at the same level. Guy
  20. Possible, but I doubt it. Spurs didn't look THAT dominant today. Guy
  21. That's cool, Guy. I just think it's really freaky (and not in a good way). And that's why I like it. It seems a total antithesis to what Coltrane would have wanted. And for some bizarre reason, that makes it really interesting to me. Not to mention how it is almost completely unrelated, stylistically, to the music within. It looks more like something you'd find on a 80's Speed/Death metal album cover, not on a cover of a musician who was more about peace and enlightenment. And that completely fucked up juxtaposition will always win over a demented mind like mine. Either way, you can't argue against the overall artistic beauty of the drawing. Or, maybe you can............ Isn't a very similar album cover for a Sonny Stitt? I definitely dig the Stellar Regions cover, however. I assume that's a painting, not a photograph? Guy
  22. Like shit. Who better than Gene Harris to play a set of late night blues? Its fine if people don't particularly care for this record, but there should be no doubt that it is the perfect combination of musicians and tunes. Woah tiger! I like this album a lot, just asking an innocent question. Guy
  23. I've gotta emphatically disagree with you, Scott. That one is horrible! Guy
