  1. The Oscar nominee gets should recheck his facts and figures -- (part of) the album was recorded on March 2, but it was released months later. Guy
  2. I'm curious about this one. Many said it didn't live up to its potential (the Herbie/Ron/Tony rhythm section, plus as I understand it they don't play on every cut). I've almost bought it several times, but have not yet succumbed. Very underwhelming. Another underwhelming one is Blues for Salvador. It's sometimes mentioned as his best of the post-1980 era, but is kinda average. Guy
  3. You're crazy, SS1 -- think of how many RVGs you could buy for $150-200. Guy
  4. yuck! just imagine Barry Harris on electric piano, that sweetish CTI mix all over, Cranshaw replaced by Ron Carter at his boomiest/slidiest and Cobham laying down a dry beat instead of smilin' Billie! (But then you'd have to replace Mogie with Hubbard, too, i guess...) yuck yuck yuck! Replacing Barry Harris wouldn't be a bad idea. Guy
  5. Spicy chicken sandwich -- delicious!
  6. If somebody can find a clip of George's conversation with Elaine's boss about having sex with the cleaning lady (season 3, "The Red Dot"), please post it:
  7. One of the all time greatest episodes: George doing the opposite George: "My name is George, I'm unemployed and I live with my parents." Beautiful blonde: "I'm Victoria, hi!" Art Vandelay marathon (I think this was the only good part of that Puerto Rican Day episode) I've got so much hand I'm coming out of my gloves!
  8. Not sure what you mean by this statement. Both guys have been in the league for a while, they're known quantities. Guy ... So in both situations I mean making a trade. Randolph to Chicago for their pick and/or some players would be a perfect situation for both teams. OK, that makes perfect sense! Guy
  9. Is anyone here a marine biologist?
  10. To reduce the incentive for tanking, I believe. Guy
  11. Not sure what you mean by this statement. Both guys have been in the league for a while, they're known quantities. Guy
  12. Seattle, probably not. Portland is a possibility -- there's a lot of young talent there. Somebody is going to totally overpay for Vince Carter. It's inevitable. I think Nocioni could be a nice pickup for some team. Guy
  13. I couldn't give a shit, personally. Guy
  14. The western conference just got a lot more competitive. The east still sucks. Guy
  15. I'm not as down on the Fillmore '68 recordings as Big Al, but otherwise agree with him 100%. The band got MUCH better after Livingston was replaced by Shrieve. Guy
  16. FWIW (and this may destroy my remaining credibility beyond repair), I thought "Smooth" was a decent bit of cookie-cutter Santana. Guy
  17. I can't figure out if Bertrand was joking or serious. Bertrand? Guy
  18. I remember loaning Caravanserai to a fellow music nut (more of a 20th century classical guy w/some dabbling in jazz) and he loved it. I wouldn't say I dislike it, but there's a lot of crap on there. (Lon/Jazzbo will disagree with us.) However, I disagree with you about the long tune near the end. Yup. In regards to Love Devotion & Surrender (the album, not the tune) mentioned upthread -- yes, something of a disappointment. I do like "Let Us Go Into the House of the Lord", they work up a nice groove and some of the guitar playing is ecstatic in a good way. WTF is up with the mixing of Larry Young on that album? He's barely audible. Guy
  19. I think his recent forays into the pop charts have made him extremely un-hip. I'd never heard of this album until now. The lineup seems very promising. Guy
  20. I was copying-and-pasting the credits for the album and totally forgot to comment about this. This must've been pretty early in Tom's career. Guy
  21. This I can't quite understand. A classic on all levels, imo. Interestingly, in the DVD's special features Andy Ackerman (the director) mentions that he and (I think) Larry David thought the episode was pretty weak and were very surprised at the popular response. Apparently, after this episode Jerry Seinfeld and a few of the writers were in New York and decided to go to this guy's soup shop. When the guy saw Jerry he totally flipped out and started screaming at him. Guy
  22. I'm inclined to agree with SS about Sam's piano playing -- I'd much rather hear him playing flute, soprano and especially tenor. Guy
  23. Huh? Coltrane isn't playing bebop on this tour, at least to my ears. His playing is crazier than on some of the early Impulse stuff. Guy
  24. Duh, his name is all over the credits at the end of the videos. I mean I heard him mentioned on CNN. This reminds me of something Randy once said:
