  1. LeBron isn't winning any titles with the Cavs unless he gets major help through free agency, trades or the draft. Guy
  2. Not the best "late night" BN album, but very nice. Guy
  3. I don't see what's getting you so worked up, Clem -- this isn't any more or less silly than his other rants. Guy
  4. Gibson was fantastic tonight. Cavs are lucky he isn't in a contract year. Looks like the Spurs are going to coast to their 4th title. Spurs in 5. Guy
  5. There's a bass riff near the end of Black Unity that really reminds me of another bass riff on Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells. Anybody know what I am talking about? I think it's the part right before the hilarious recitation of the musical instruments. Guy
  6. ECM artist Bill Frisell? Guy
  7. How long was the similarly motivated OJC list? Not long enough, considering how many OJCs have already gone out of print. Aside from the Lighthouse box, I have 4 Morgan CDs on my list. Guy
  8. Coltrane owned a varitone and even endorsed it, though he never recorded with it. Guy
  9. A couple of rock guys used electric saxophone -- Chris Wood (Traffic), Ian McDonald (King Crimson). I'm not a big fan of the sound. Also, Lee Konitz played a varitone in the late 60s. Guy
  10. Must not forget the chamberlin! Guy
  11. Has anybody heard these CDs?
  12. If you don't have it on your list (or have it already), add: Booker Ervin: Booker and Brass This was a standard Pacific Jazz/EMI issue, and it's a very good session in great sound. There are a lot of Booker fans here, but this session seems to get overlooked. At any rate, I'm a fan. OOP, I think. Guy
  13. An order arrived:
  14. I didn't. Assuming that you want to watch it, have you tried looking on any of the torrent sites? I just googled "torrent" and "Cavaliers" and got a bunch of hits. Looks like you will need 1.3G of memory. Guy
  15. You're right, it's not "free jazz". A lot of what we refer to as "free jazz" isn't really "free"; these days the term is used pretty much interchangeably with "avant-garde jazz". Guy
  16. (The book is Jeff Wiltse's Contested Waters: A Social History of Swimming Pools in America)
  17. Aside from Ob La Di Ob La Da, I like all those songs. Though "Hello Goodbye" isn't one of my favorites. I've never understood the venom directed toward "Maxwell's Silver Hammer". Guy
  18. Have you heard Dizzy Gillespie's Sonny Side Up, w/Rollins and Stitt? Guy

Are these guys worth checking out? Apparently their next album will feature trumpeter Eddie Gale (Cecil Taylor, Larry Young). Guy
  20. I have compiled a list of just under 200 EMI jazz CDs I want. Guy
  21. They have great prices. Free shipping for big orders, right? Guy
  22. I've never liked "With a Little Help from My Friends". This may be part of a generalized Ringo aversion (though I love "Octopus's Garden"). Guy
  23. Yeah, this album is probably overrated by the "general public", but I think at this point the critical counter-reaction has run its course. The Beatles had better albums, big whoop. Favorite tunes on the album: "A Day in the Life" (it goes without saying), "Getting Better", "Fixing a Hole", "Good Morning", "When I'm 64", "She's Leaving Home", "Lovely Rita" Guy
  24. By the way (Aggie alluded to this upthread), if there was ever a time to fire a coach after a huge playoff victory, this is it. Guy
