  1. I've only had their Bayou Beast, but it's delicious. No worries about not meeting up after the performance -- as soon as it was over, I jetted back to New Haven for a friend's going-away party. Guy
  2. I've never heard anything good about this guy's playing. Guy
  3. I don't see any options for the classical music forum. Guy
  4. Jeez, I hope he is not risking his health. By the way, I saw William Parker (who J Larsen pointed out to me) and Henry Grimes at the concert. Supposedly Cecil T was there too. Guy
  5. "Great Expectations" is in the BB box, "Go Ahead John" is not. Guy
  6. Interesting, for Winwood and Auger's appearances. Guy
  7. I think J pretty much nails it, I don't have much to add. Sam's stamina and force aren't what they were 30 years ago, but the mind is 100% (maybe 110%) there and it showed in the playing. I feel like a total idiot for arriving 15-20 minutes late. Guy
  8. I think it's interesting that in 1968, Al Kooper and Ray Manzarek were the favorite rock organists among jazz listeners. Guy
  9. He was on a relatively recent trio album w/McCoy Tyner and Al Foster. No clue how good it is. Guy

    Steve Lacy

If so, I'm actually stunned that there hasn't been more buzz about this. I thought the "lost" tapes were indeed lost. Damn, too bad those four tracks couldn't be added to School Days! You really need to git a grip or a discography. Or an understanding of "rights" and copyrights and the legal crap from the original owners. If this is "legal" I will buy it. Chuck, I'm not sure what you are suggesting here. Is there any reason to believe that Cuneiform Records isn't a legit operation? Guy
  11. It'll be a sad day when I eat a burger with knife and fork. Guy
  12. Isn't he on Black Unity by Pharoah Sanders? Guy
  13. There's a good burger chain in SoCal called "Island's". One of the (many) things I miss about not living in San Diego anymore. Guy
  14. If they play like this against the Spurs, they'll get blown out by 20-25 pts every game. Guy
  15. Actually, I would prefer to discuss Chick Corea's work on ECM. Guy
  16. Jim, you rock! Happy birthday! Guy

    Steve Lacy

Apparently one exists (edit: possibly the same recording discussed in this thread): Lacy also plays on Monk's Columbia Big Band album, though I don't think he takes any solos. Guy
  18. I think he is great on Black Beauty, as well as on other '69-'70 live Miles. Guy
  19. I'm probably a bad person for diggin THIS thread up...
  20. you radiate knowledge. Interestingly, though deuterium is not radioactive, drinking too much heavy water will kill you -- our bodies have trouble absorbing it. Guy
  21. He wasn't any more or less of a sell out than Herbie Hancock. Guy
  22. IMHO the live versions of this material (on Between Nothingness and Eternity) are MUCH better. I think Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy (which Dip mentioned above) is actually pretty good guitar-oriented fusion. I'm not a huge fan of the genre (aside from Mahavishnu) or this band after DiMeola joined, but this one is nice. Guy
  23. I'm kind of surprised you are taking the chewy comment seriously... edit: I largely agree with the Dip's comments except that I really like the Miles bands w/DeJohnette & Corea. Guy
  24. He was also on several Blue Mitchell and Herbie Mann records. Guy
  25. This is a funny thread. Guy
