6-4, though maybe you're suffering amnesia about one of the losses. The minus is that despite the schedule being dense, it hasn't exactly been difficult -- mostly eastern conference teams and none of the western conference elite teams. OTOH, they've been competitive in almost every game. Interesting to see if they give the Clippers a run on Sunday. Guy

Fortunately the Warriors bounced back from this loss (and they really deserved to lose considering that they played like crap for most of the game) by beating Portland. They just have to survive two more weeks and they get a break in the schedule. Nice to see the Clips beat the Lakers! I'm guessing we will see that happen a few more times this season. I'll go on a limb and predict that Dallas will snap the Piston's streak tomorrow, though it will be close. Jim's response to Scoop Jackson was good. Why is so much of sports journalism so crappy? Guy

Weird, they gave me that notice during the summer. Guy

I really want to hear Handy's Roulette recordings... alas it seems too unpopular for a Connoisseur, and too short for a Mosaic Select. Guy

One more thing, non-Beach Boy related. I was listening to "European Fantasy" today and it struck me how much David S Ware was influenced by Lloyd's playing. Guy
-
I've only seen Lloyd's current live performances, which feature some gyrations but probably not as bad as the video you describe (and I haven't seen). As far as Jarrett -- I recently read an interview with him where he said he'd recently seen a video of one of his performances. He laughed and said that "it was pretty graphic." Guy

Really? Even better than Canto? In that case I'm really psyched to hear it when today's yourmusic shipment gets here. Got to the second half of the Collectables issue (In Europe), which was excellent as well. While I agree with Jack W that some of Lloyd's tenor playing from this period sounds diluted (particularly on Forest Flower and, worse yet, on Soundtrack), that was definitely not the case on these two albums. In addition there's some superb flute playing. Guy

Listening to Journey Within. (On Collectables along with In Europe.) DAMN, this is one of the best albums I've heard from this group. Guy

Mine's a male barber. There was a female barber that would occasionally do it ("it" = shaving my hair to the length of a quarter inch once a month) but she kept missing patches and finally I lost my patience. Everytime I go to that place now I wait for one of the other barbers. It's a little awkward but I hate those fucking patches. Once I tried shaving my own head and failed miserably. Guy

I remember thinking last Friday that I would go nuts if the Warriors lost to the Knicks at home. Given how low my expectations are, I can't imagine how Kings fans felt. Playing the Bucks tonight... hopefully Baron will feel a little better. (What the heck was Montgomery doing playing him in the Monday blowout?) It was funny to see Taft and Biedrins averaging 1 foul/2 minutes. For those Warriors fans excited by our 5-3 start, I'd like to remind you of the 2001-2002 season. We started 5-3 and finished the first half of the season 14-27. Then things really deteriorated and we ended up 21-61. Guy

Sax players with Miles after Shorter (70's only)
Guy Berger replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Discography
Maybe a trivial point to make (and really besides the point of this thread), but the main thing that stands out to me is how none of these guys (at least when they were with Miles), even at their best (and to be fair, most of them were much less experienced than Wayne), were anywhere near the same level that Wayne was at during his tenure. SN is the direct translation of "BS" into Italian. Guy

When I walked in to my apt tonight Chuck was waiting with a mask and a shotgun... I knew I had no choice but to spring for the box. Guy

Wow, I missed the original post -- at first I didn't realize what Chuck and Dan G were (rightfully) getting in arms about. Anyway, instead of used CDs you might want to check out yourmusic.com. For $6 & free shipping, cheaper than many used CDs, you can pick up many of the cds on your list. Guy

Well, they have a good team and their roommates don't. With Sacramento stinking it up (Losing to the Knicks at home? Now THERE'S a real WTF) and Phoenix crippled by Amare's absence, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Clips snag the division title (and consequently slot #2 or #3 come playoff time). Guy

Though the Prestige session wasn't their first studio session, it was the first album by the group to be released (and, IIRC, the only one released during the group's lifetime). Unless someone was lucky enough to catch them in person, it was probably most listeners' first encounter of the group. Guy

Is this possible? Given prices of 17.98/disc, 55% off only amounts to $8.01/disc which is still substantially higher than the yourmusic price. Guy

I've made several panic orders in the last few days. Pared down my queue quite a bit. ← And just made a panic order of Mother Ship to boot since it told me there will not be any copies available by the time the next queue slot ships. Guy ← I can't even get Larry Young to show up in a search. Didn't have it in the queue either. ← He was there this morning! Looks like he's now gone. Same thing happened last week with "Mingus, Mingus . . . ." The warning appeared above my queue that it wouldn't be available on the scheduled ship date (later this month), and then it was gone the same day. ← Sigh... the Larry Young got cancelled. Kind of a shame, too, because I ordered Horace Silver's Serenade for a Soul Sister in October (also running low) but would have definitely gotten the Young had I known it would disappear. My main lesson is to order the queue by what you want to have, and let low-priority (or low alldirect-yourmusic price difference) items disappear. As far as the recent Columbia reissues -- which of these are copy-protected and which aren't? Guy

I'm kind of surprised nobody's made a bigger deal out of this (or maybe they did and I did notice it; Brownie did note in the "recorded on this date" thread), but... 50 years ago (October 26th, to be precise), Miles Davis went into the studio with a quintet consisting of a cocktail pianist, a kid bassist, a drummer who played too loud, and a no-name tenor saxophonist who was only hired because Sonny Rollins was unavailable. They recorded: Little Melonae Budo Ah Leu Cha Two Bass Hit I wonder what the hell Miles was doing with these bozos???

It's almost a shame (actually, to me it IS a shame, but YMMV) that he reduced his electric piano playing in favor of fancier keyboards. He got so many interesting sounds of that instrument. Guy

It seems readily available as an import, and the price isn't crazy ($19.45 at alldirect.com). Guy

It's too bad ABC doesn't have Marv Albert & Steve Kerr -- those guys are really good. (Is Doug Collins announcing this year? I dig him too.) Mike Fratello needs to quit coaching and come back to announcing. Guy
-
He's atrocious. How does he keep his job?! ← No, he's not the worst, but he's pretty bad (and he doesn't even have stupidity as an excuse). I remember a finals game from last year when it was tied at halftime and he said something about how the Spurs had the Pistons on the ropes. Greg Anthony had the biggest "WTF?" look on his face and pretty much said so. Guy

More good news: the fact that the Warriors shot 34% for the game and STILL only lost by 1 point is not bad. Also, when/if Baron actually comes back to full health and Ike comes off the IL, this will be a better team. Guy

Maybe you were hallucinating that Shaq was playing. Guy
