Sigh... I'm still pissed off at myself about this binge. I tried to be picky too... and didn't even touch the Coleman Hawkins catalogue... Also tried to avoid stuff that's received 20K remasters since I figure those are popular enough to stay in the catalogue. If some of those Art Peppers I want go OOP I'll go postal. Sigh... made a huge order at alldirect for $225. Not everything I wanted was in stock but I got way too much stuff regardless. Guy

Mine arrived so fast I think Chuck drove it here himself. I won't get a chance to listen to it until 2006 due to a humongous backlog (plus I want to hear Roscoe's Sound first) but looking forward to it. Where is the box #? Guy

The schedule, despite its hecticness, has been pretty soft for the Warriors so it's a little premature to be going nuts over the 10-6 start but still -- this is nice! I don't think we've had a start this good, this far into the season, in a long time. It looks like Baron and Dunleavy Jr. are shaking off their early-season difficulties and Diogu is instantly contributing real numbers off the bench. Can't wait for the French Jordan to come back. Hopefully we'll actually beat a good team soon, though all the Pistons fans will have a chance to laugh at us when they visit the arena next week. Guy

Interestingly enough, I dug out Dao recently and found it to be much more listenable than I remembered. (I listened to it a lot upon first picking it up, then got worn down by the "somewhat claustrophobic, relentless ensemble sound". My nerves have had time to regenerate since then, I guess.) A nice album. Cryptology, OTOH, is still way too much. Guy

Repugnant sums it up about right. I don't think Mr. Twizzle has made one sincere post in this thread. That includes the topic itself. It seems as if it's nothing but a bad joke. Yup, I think there is a troll under this bridge. A really ugly one. Guy

FWIW, this is a different case. The "original LP sequence" for the Jackson tracks in question wasn't the original issue. This is not true for the Mobley. Guy
-
Agreed. Don't this kind of shit fucking up the lives of anybody I know. Guy

Yourmusic.com has this, which means it can be picked up super-cheap. The lineup is intriguing. Any recommendations/descriptions? Guy

That may be, but you will have to take it up with the owners of the BS/SN website as well as the critics who participated in the poll. Guy

There were two different tours, one with Coltrane in the spring and one with Stitt in the fall. As far as purchasing -- AFAIK, only some of this material has been officially licensed, right? If you reach a concert that (A) has not been officially licensed and (B) is only available at exorbitant bootlegged prices, I encourage you to consider other modes of acquisition. Here are all the known recordings, according to Pete Losin: w/Coltrane: March 21, 1960 Olympia Theatre, Paris March 22, 1960 Konserthuset, Stockholm March 24, 1960 Tivoli Konsertsal, Copenhagen March 30, 1960 Kongresshalle, Frankfurt March-April 1960 Unknown venue, Unknown city April 1, 1960 Rheinhalle, Düsseldorf April 8, 1960 Kongresshaus, Zürich April 9, 1960 Kurhaus, Scheveningen w/Stitt: September 27, 1960 Free Trade Hall, Manchester October 11, 1960 Olympia Theatre, Paris October 13, 1960 Konserthuset, Stockholm Guy

By the way, a while back BS/SN posted a critics' top ten list for the label. Not sure who the critics were but the list was as follows:

Happy Thanksgiving folks. Make sure to think of something to tell your family you're grateful for. Guy

Anyone been to Yemen, Oman, Qatar?
Guy Berger replied to BeBop's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I was thinking the same thing. I imagine Qatar and Oman are much safer. Guy So it is said. I don't worry much: life's too short. (No jokes about making it even shorter.) I spend enough time in war zones and truly bad places to sweat the ill-defined threat that might exist in Yemen. Just be sure to post lots of pictures when you get back. Guy -

What's next on your YourMusic.com queue?

Just had this sent to me. Next up: Tord Gustavsen, The Ground; then Bobby Hutcherson, Oblique -
Thanks for the rec. It's more a restriction imposed by a huge backlog of 40 unlistened-to CDs than a lack of interest. However the $14 tag on vols 3 & 4 of Epitaph will be harder to ignore. Guy
-
Are volumes 3-4 of Epitaph still in print? I have the first 2 discs on CD, dug them out for the first time in several years, and have been digging them a lot over the past two weeks. Damn good music. And is The Great Deceiver in or out of print these days? I'm not enough of a Crimson nut to get it right now (particularly not at the ridiculously overinflated price that it was selling for a few years back) but I may be tempted at some point. - Guy

All I know is that when I saw Larry on American Idol last week, he was clearly faking his avant-garde farfisa organ credentials. Guy

Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra, Dec 13

This may be spam but my doctor told me that certain kinds of spam may be good for your health and this would seem to qualify. Guy -
Apparently Mingus's Cumbia & Jazz Fusion is now out of print. Fortunately I downloaded the title track a while back but I've been looking for a cheap "real" copy. There's a chance that Collectables will reissue it at some point as they do with many Atlantic titles, but I'm still awaiting a reissue of Zawinul and that hasn't happened yet. Guy

I've been slowly working chronologically through all his films. (Many of the Keystones were painful to watch!) The Circus is going to arrive from Netflix today, and then it's onto City Lights & Modern Times). ← I found The Circus painful. Not one of his best moments for me. ← I just watched it and thought it was enjoyable. Certainly not painful. Now, watching one of the early Keystone films with the heads cropped off & terrible acting/writing, that's painful. Guy
-
Hopefully only after they reissue all of the stuff that's out-of-print. This one is readily available. Guy

In Chicago, seeing things more clearly than most here. ← I'm digging the EYE, Chris. Guy
