I have always used FEDEX or DHL. Why wouldn't CD Japan continue to ship orders to me in the US by DHL even with the tariff? As I understand it, the foreign vendor, CD Japan, has nothing to do with collection of that tariff. The tariff is charged at the time of customs clearance in the US. It is the US importing company, in this case-me, that is charged and pays the tariff. For items shipped by DHL from Japan, US customs or perhaps DHL (but not CD Japan) would contact me to collect the tariff. At that point, who contacts me and the process for that payment is unclear (to me and perhaps DHL). If I do not pay the tariff (to US customs or anybody else, e.g., DHL), the item would be set aside by US customs as unclaimed. If so, CD Japan should not be concerned since it would have already collected the sale price and the shipping cost for DHL from me (given that, perhaps DHL will not be concerned about any confusion about collection of the tariff). In the end, on an order for say 10 cds, if a cd from CD Japan will cost me $15 plus, on average, $2-3 for shipping, and also $3-4 for the tariff (assuming 20%), and taking into account any additional hassles due to the tariff, e.g., the tariff payment process, delay, can I get that cd from another source for less money? Undoubtedly Cd Japan will probably lose business (including mine) because of the tariff.

Just finished reading Jonathon Grasse"s "Jazz Revolutionary", which I got through interlibrary loan. The Amazon review is pretty much on target. After 50 pages of family history and discussion of Eric's early musical experiences, Grasse's approach is to methodically track and analyze Eric's recording and major concerts. That said, I found it informative but not great reading.

I am with Kevin-I like most of the stuff that Zev has been involved with. But, thinking of Blakey's "Just Coolin" date, how can you call him a "Detective" when the session is listed on discographies?

People who know people that know Sheila's daughter indicate that Sheila died. I last saw Sheila in 2021 in Kingston, NY with Alan Broadbent on piano and Harvie S on bass. Good show. First time I saw her was at an Elk's Lodge in Cobleskill NY circa 1993. Numerous times in between.

Posting to remember Tom Bellino, an upstate New York jazz "force". You will find very little information online about his death-very unassuming person. Managed the Village Vanguard Orchestra for years and was behind the PlanetArts website and label. https://www.local802afm.org/allegro/articles/tom-bellino/ From Bill McCann's FB post: "Sunday, September 7th, at 2 pm at Beattie-Powers Place in Catskill, there will be a MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO THOMAS BELLINO, who passed away earlier this year. Thomas Bellino was truly a great guy and has been said - a tremendous force in the jazz world. His organization, Planet Arts, produced many outstanding recordings, and Tom tirelessly produced countless concerts in NY State, the United States, and literally around the world. It is a tremendous loss to his many friends and family and to the jazz community alike. Scott Petito, Chris Pasin and Michael Benedict will be hosting a relaxed "Jam" session with musicians associated with Tom during his many decades in jazz. Again, the event will start at 2pm and will take place at Beattie-Powers Place in Catskill, NY. (beattiepowers.org) Tom truly deserves such a tribute."

Just wanted to add my appreciation for Galper's recordings from this century and his archival recordings, both batches issued by Origin Records: https://originarts.com/artists/artist.php?Artist_ID=107

Used to visit the physical store in Western MA before it closed years ago

He had been living in upper state New York around Callicoon, right on the Pennsylvania border. I saw on FB that he then had a afternoon gig at Rafter's Tavern, a local spot. caught him once there with Billy Mintz on drums. Can't remember who was on bass. Fun hour.

Ezzthetics is based in Switzerland, which is not a member of the EU. Reputedly Switzerland copyright laws do not align with the EU copyright laws such that Ezzthetics can legally remaster (from lps, of course) and reissue music that is in Switzerland's public domain.

Re record stores in Dublin, I was in Dublin last fall and visited 3 different used stores. Found some cds but not records. Interestingly, there are two Tower Records stores in Dublin. -
