Yes, I meant posting a message on the scoreboard.....The person I talked to didn't remember seeing a congratulatory message to the Marlins- now I'm going from what he saw, or didn't see.....but I would expect something stating "Marlins- 2003 World Series Champions" or something to that effect. I hope someone can refute me because that woulld be in poor taste if the Yankees didn't acknowledge the Marlins.
-
I'm glad the Marlins won- I'm an NL guy who always roots for the NL. While the Marlins were celebrating on the field, I kept on hearing New York, New York by Frank Sinatra, and I didn't hear any applause from the Yankees fans for the Marlins- they played a great series. And from someone who was at the game- there was no script on the message board congratulating the Marlins being 2003 World Series champions. Classless act by the Yankees

I used to have a neighbor (we moved) who did this exclusively. He would go to places such as Lowes, Target, grocery stores and "troll" for potentials. He was an outgoing person and can overwhelm you if you let him. Some years ago he tried to get me to a meeting- I said I wasn't interested in Scamway, uh, I mean Amway....he got the hint and left me alone. He had meetings periodically at his house and it was interesting to see the type of people who arrived. About 6 years ago, there was an East Coast meeting for Amway associates here in Richmond- about 12,000 people....I never saw so many ugly suits in my life! Great time to people watch......
-
Those are my thoughts (actually worse) but I didn't want to offend anyone.
-
Someone wanted me to come to a "meeting" and learn to be my own boss.......I declined knowing what I know.......I'll be polite. Anyone try this? Anyone sell Amway?

That's the guy!!! He's on Comedy Central, right?? Didn't 60 minutes or something similar do an expose on him- they looked in the dumpster behind his office and found all sorts of letters, handprints and other personal items from people wanting their wishes granted- but no money. Amazing what people will believe. -

Show me the Money!! Wonder what happened to all the religious preachers who wanted people to send them money so they can be personally prayed for.....the one that said to send a copy of your hand and $100.00 and he will place his hand on yours.....the one who wanted money for his Ministry.......you know- the Sunday morning ones on TV and a few Saturday mornings mixed in..... oh wait...they're all in JAIL.... -

I believe the Nat King Cole and the Ellington Reprise were in the 10,000 limit. This looks like a good one.... -

BERIGAN- I have an Earthlink email account and I get *tons* of spam. I'm going to change my email and disable the other- I'll see how that works. It's ridiculous the amount of garbage I'm getting. Big Wheel: I had the same thing a year ago- I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled everything. I have a Compaq that I bought in 1999 and it comes with a disc which will return the hard drive to factory condition. It's a pain to do and takes lots of time, but to me it's worth it. -
I guess if you look hard enough, you can put asterisks on practically anything: new stadiums are smaller, pitching is watered down due to expansion, lowering of the pitchers mound in 1968, Gaylord Perry loading the ball up, I don't believe in the asterisks approach, and if it is proved that Bonds and Sosa used some sort of performance enhancing elixir then everything should remain the same. As long as the players association remains the way it is, then nothing will be done.....and baseball gets a real commissioner, who's totally objective.

I think that minor league players are willing to take the risk of using steroids to get to the major league level, and continue to use it to stay there. Once you have that great year, then it's guaranteed contract time, baby! Brady Anderson hitting 50 home runs?? C'mon!! I think Javy Lopez got huge this year, compared to previous years.......last year of his contract, free agent next year, had some lousy seasons that past few years, Johnny Estrada knocking on the door...... coincidence? Did anyone break 50 home runs this year?? Did MLB state they would do random drug testing this year? Sosa had 60+ HRs for 3 straight years.... Corked bat allows you to increase your swing speed to hit the ball father, since the bat is lighter.....I'm still surprised that people resort to it, because it doesn't make the ball go farther- read the Physics of Baseball by Adair.
-
Nope, doesn't happen- no such thing steroids in baseball, let alone in sports...... Watch ESPN classic for the World series games from years past and see how small the players look. Heck the 1993 WS with the Phils/Jays was on and then the players looked small compared to the ones from today (except for Dykstra- he was juiced).

This is a cool topic- I'll have to scan a picture....

Thank you BERIGAN- you summed up my points better than I did.

That's the beauty of opinions because....they're opinions! Grady took a chance and believed in Pedro- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't- oh well. Being a former pitcher in college, I've been in Pedro's situation many times. My manager comes to the mound and asks me how I feel- do I want to get this next batter? Most times I've answered truthfully- I can get him out, or no, I'm out of gas. I make a terrible pitch and the batter pops it up. Or I paint the low outside corner and the batter throws his bat at the ball and it just goes over the outstretched glove of the SS. I believe that Grady Little went with his ace and would sink or swim with him rather than someone out of the bullpen. Grady lost this time. Maybe he'll win next time. But that's baseball. And lets not overlook the job he did this year, compared to previous Red Sox teams and their final standings. I think the Red Sox did well and they should be proud of their season. They'll be back.
-
I don't think it's Grady Little's fault.....Martinez hasn't gone past the 7th all year- he begs out of more games when he could give his team a chance by going one or two more.......this time he wants to stay in and Little allowed it- he's their best pitcher and hoping he would rise to the occasion, take care of the inning. Do you actually want Alan Embree pitching instead of Martinez?? Not me....Embree is a 1 to 2 batter pitcher.....and it's not like the Yankees were hitting tracers off Martinez....that ball that took the funny hop to Millar, that broken bat flair that Posada hit.....that's baseball. To clarify- I intensely don't like the Yankees ("hate" is a bad word) and was rooting for the Sox all the way. I won't watch the World Series because the Yankees are in it again and I'm tired of seeing them. That said- I hope the Marlins sweep them and beat them bad to boot.
-
Well I was disappointed that the Cubs lost......and it's not the kid's fault either......look at the error by Gonzalez in that 8 run inning, or how Farnsworth got lit up in the latter part of the Series, or how the Cubs' bats went south. Give credit where credit is due: the Marlins won the series and were the better team. I'll be rooting for them in the World Series against the Yankees- 'cause I dislike the Yankees alot, or I'll root for the Red Sox grudgingly since I hate head hunting Martinez and Ramirez is a wuss- Clemens should have hit him so he would have something real to complain about when he walked towards Clemens.... Anyway- give it up for the Marlins- they deserve it.

I still have my Bill the Cat shirt- doesn't fit me anymore (!!!) I had every one of the Bloom County books but gave them away to charity.... Great strip though!!

Just found this thread.... vajerzy- my wife is from Virginia and I'm from New Jersey.... Last name is Kelly- my great-grandfather is from Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland- arrived in the States around 1890 or so....we visited Miltown Malbay in October, 2000 and met people who knew my great-grandfather's relatives and descendents in various forms- saw the house where he was born, and where his mother (McNamara) grew up. The family history thing is a work in progress.... Very interesting reading about different people- isn't it amazing that people from all over the world come to this one place?? -
That's so RUDE!!!

The Sinatras are right with the Mosaics If anything happens they go with me, my family and the dogs! On my short list is to check the closet where the Mosaic boxes are stored- it's in a converted attic that's climate controlled and not much seperates them from the roof! The house has a tin roof and is in good shape- no leaks during the fiercest of t-storms from this summer. This will be a good test!

I'd like to be there right now! Thanks for the best wishes......going to be an interesting Thursday, especially in the evening.......

Assuming you're in the path....... Latest track has it making landfall at Ocracoke Island, Outer Banks NC and tracking north-northwest......into Virginia and right over my house... We have bottled water in case the electricity goes out (we have a deep well) and enough flashlights, batteries radios, etc. Going to move the cars away from trees into the field in case large branches come down- the trees are large oaks and hickorys- at least 100 years old. Hope they live to be 101.....they've survived this long from previous hurricanes/tornadoes!

Sad news..... When I first watched his new show last year- I always thought that John looked older than his years and he moved slow and deliberate- I thought he looked sick and something was wrong with him. Sorry to hear this-
