  1. Frank Sinatra. I have all the US issued CDs along with some unauthorized recordings......and always looking for more. Now I'm working on the Dick's Picks series by the Grateful Dead- I have about half so far. It's a disease, really........selling sets and letting go is invigorating in it's own way and the first step to recovery.
  2. I'm pretty psyched that Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and University of Richmond made it in......two schools from Richmond, VA is pretty cool.....I tend to root for them mostly..... UNC better watch out for Air Force.......and Xavier will make some noise....
  3. How about the Holman Russo?
  4. Anita O'Day Get the most expensive set with the gift certificate- plus I like the O'Day set!
  5. Yeah it is a small world!! I moved here in 1993. I don't know what Soundhole is- a record store? I played baseball at Midlothian's HS field when I was playing in the Richmond 30+ adult baseball league. Their ballfield is real nice. If you haven't been back in a while the area is growing. Williamsburg during Christmas season is wonderful. Thanks for writing impossible!
  6. Just saw this- sorry I didn't see it earlier.....I live in Powhatan about 1.5 hours away from Williamsburg....... As Dan mentioned, Jamestown is a cool place to go, especially since new excavations revealed the outline of the fort, previously thought to be in the James River. Yorktown is a nice place also- they re-did the visitor's center a few years ago- I haven't been there in 7 years or so. I like Williamsburg- my wife and I drive down there and park on the side-streets and walk around, looking at the people and houses. Since it's your first time there, I recommend going to the visitor's center, buying tickets to tour the interiors of the homes and taking in the whole experience. The James River plantations are located on Rt. 5 in Charles City County- these are a series of magnificent homes along the James River. My wife and I like visiting these and we take guests to these as time allows. Click or paste on this web site: http://www.jamesriverplantations.com/ If you're doing the plantations, try to stop at the Indian Fields Tavern http://www.indianfields.com/ a somewhat pricey dining experience (menu on-line)but I've never had a bad meal yet. A very nice setting. If you haven't pick up a copy of AAA's Virginia guide- it'll help you with everything. Busch Gardens is closed now. I hope you see this before you leave. Have a great time and I hope your eperiences in the "Old Dominion" are positive and favorable! Mike
  7. Brandon- I agree with you- I really don't like the guy also........I happened to tune in one time when he was talking about the Japanese pitcher so I heard that part. I haven't liked him ever since he called Jim Everett (QB- LA Rams) Chrissy even when Everett told him to stop.....seeing Rome's face when Everett went after him was priceless- he looked so scared- and he should have been-
  8. If you haven't found one yet, look on Ebay and sign up for carfax.com. I bought my 1967 F-100 pickup on Ebay and I know 4 people who bought their vehicles on Ebay. Everyone's happy with theirs, especially me! Good luck!
  9. Yes- he pitched last year in the Indian's organization......he was good and probably will make the Tribe's roster......story I hear is when he was eligible for Japan's baseball draft, no one selected him (due to the fact the homosexuality is illegal in Japan), even though he was highly touted so he came over to the US where we has pitched well and no one has given it a concern. He said it was a mistake making the film.......as Jim Rome says, leaving your car lights on is a mistake, forgetting to lock the door is a mistake.....making a gay porn movie is not a mistake.........whatever- he seems contrite and his new teamates have accepted him so everything is fine.
  10. Bud Selig is like Sargeant Schultz from Hogan's Heroes: I see nothing.....I hear nothing...... Your next commisioner of baseball.....
  11. It's all about "who's juicin' baby!!" I know when I have my fantasy baseball draft in a few weeks- I'm staying away from the 'roidsters and going with "normal" players......Magglio Ordonez types, guys who are .290/30/100/10-20SBs.......good year for fantasy pitchers since HRs will be down....no one will break 50 HRs this year.....oh yeah, the bats are softer, yeah, that's the ticket!!! The only baseball I'll probably watch will be the games on ESPN classic when the players looked more like me.... Instead of a bunch of wrestlers from the WWF.
  12. Jazzmoose- I think your home is real solid- I grew up in a home built in the 50s and it's very durable- I'm amazed at the quality of construction. Those homes built post WWII were made very well! Peter- I know your area- it's a great place! Remove the cars and replace them with carriages and be transported back in time......any gas lamps or other period furnishings on the street? I like Philadelphia alot- my Mom/Dad grew up there and still have an aunt and cousins in Havertown/Upper Darby. I'm trying to find out who built our home- it has a nice story with it- we're the 4th owners since 1907.
  13. Thanks Jim!! My wife likes the blue but wants to eventually paint it a brick/colonial red and paint the area above the second floor a khaki color. Its wood shingled and very distinct and she wants it to stand out. You have 10 foot solid oak columns?? That's wonderful!! I like columns on a porch.....I would like to see an exterior shot of your house. Peter- Are you in Old City Philly, around Locust or Walnut?? Your house looks like the setting from Trading Places, where Dan Ackroyd lived. I think those homes are wonderful and I would love to see the interior of them. My wife and I like old homes and would like to see the interior of both of them- we think they're fascinating!!
  14. Thanks Jim! That was my thought of what you did. I'm the only one amongst my friends who has an older home so they're no help. I tend to learn things on my own, do a lot of research, know my limitations, and hope for the best. Right now I'm learning about our water system (we have a 225 foot well) and trying to figure out the wiring. I'd like to install a connection for a generator to run the well pump and other devices in case the power goes out. Unlike you, the previous owners did a lot of work on our house and they did it right, so I'm real happy about that. I wonder who has the oldest home amongst the members? Mine is a simple farmhouse built in 1907.
  15. Hey Jim- In your first picture of the bathroom- was that lathing (sp?) on the wall to be used for plaster......did you place the drywall over that or rip it out?? My wife and I own a farmhouse built 1907......we are constantly surprised by all the little work that needs to be done- and it seems like I can't apply prior knowledge to the new jobs due to the uniqueness of the house. We also have a clawfoot tub with a modified shower head installed- we have one bathroom.....your clawfoot tub looks great- I really like mine!
  16. Congratulations!! Nice to see green this time of year... Doing taxes for 2004 will be a lot of fun deducting closing costs and interest paid and all sorts of good things that home ownership allows you to do. And if you're like me- your new favorite channels will be HGTV, DIY, and various PBS shows, all dealing with home improvements and gardening tips!
  17. No.....never will.....
  18. This is interesting.......

    Why I hate Miles

Different people like different music......and different food, and colors, and places and people and sports and dogs and chili and beer.........it's a personal preference and no one's going to change anyone else if they don't want to be changed. The best you can do is expose someone to something and if they accept it great, if not, at least they tried. I don't like Ornette Coleman and avant garde jazz- no structure, in my opinion. Other people think he's great.....I don't see it but I respect their opinion. I like Frank Sinatra and Lon doesn't......and that's fine- it's personal preference. I once said to a friend who worshipped the Grateful Dead that Jerry Garcia was not a great as everyone makes him out to be and this friend freaked and didn't speak to me for months. Debate is good providing everyone's opinions are respected and nobody tries to cram their opinion down the other person's throat.
  20. *ANYTHING* from the Monterey Pop Festival!!!!! I'm still awed every time I listen to it!
  21. Yes, I was wondering the same thing myself.......I have to fill out a declaration of statement or something like that explaining what is in the shipment and it's value. Do you in Germany have to pay an additional tax?
  22. Registered Mail?? I didn't know I could track a package that went to another country......
  23. I'd like to hear from those in Germany (and other countries) in addition to the US crowd. What is the preferred method to mail a Mosaic to Germany from the US? I chose Airmail Parcel Post. Should I have the set insured?? Estimated cost is about $20.00 with the conditions described above, arrive in 4-10 days. Thoughts?? Comments??
  24. WOW!! With that attitude, you'll go broke!!! Put them alphabetical.....I did!
