Hardbop: The next house over has a horse- he has about 20 acres for the horse to roam around. When we moved out here, seems everyone asked us if we're getting a horse (answer = no, or not until my daughter is a lot older and she can take rae of it). We have 12 acres- 6 of it is woods- to the left of the picture of the front of the house. Picture is taken from the county road in front of the house. Speaking of cutting grass- you're looking at him.....takes 4-5 hours on a riding mower to cut it. Takes about 1.5 hours to cut the front...then I have the sides, back yard and the "way back" where we have a garden and fruit trees. About 2-3 acres in all- the rest of the open area is a meadow where I maintain a walking path through the wildflowers and the bluebird boxes. It's very peaceful and quiet...real quiet with a light snowfall..right now it's loud from all the katydids in the trees at night, but when the first frost hits and kills all the chirping insects it is so quiet, it's eerie. My mom came to visit and she a city girl, born/raised in Philly and it was too quiet for her. If you like astronomy- it's so dark out here!! Ironic thing is: I grew up at the Jersey shore (Margate City) 2 blocks from the beach with houses on top of each other and traffic everywhere and I consider myself a "city person", yet I live in the country. I love going to Manhattan and Philly and everything associated with it, but I do love living here. My wife and I consider ourselves very fortunate to live here- and have the opportunity to raise our little girl in a setting such as this!

We live in a farm house c. 1907. Here's my daughter sitting on my 1967 F-100 at the back of the house......she calls the truck "Lucy"........

Don't live in a town per se.....

Well, I don't live in a city or town- just out in the country.......

I'm narrowing down my Mosaics to big band, vocals and pre-bop jazz, and one I would like to have is the Jones/Lewis set. Anyone have one for sale or trade? Thanks- Mike

I used to run home from grade school in 4th grade or so to watch these- they would come on at 3:00PM. Been waiting for these cartoons to appear on TV- they're now on DVD! Anyone buy this?? Going to buy this??
-
Whoa- just discovered this thread! I enjoy the DPs- my favorite is Englishtown- forget which number..... DP30 looks good also- as does 29. I like them playing in the background- they're great music when I'm doing projects around the house: painting, electrical woodwork, etc. Have to pick up a few more soon......darn! the Woody Herman Mosiac is up for pre-order!! Oh well.....
-
I heard that's a good one- superior sound.
-
I'm more interested in the Woody Herman.
-
Well it doesn't have the extra tracks that appeared on the earlier releases- it's the official releases from back in the 50s and 60s......looking at "Close to You" it doesn't have "Flaw in My Flue"..... No need to buy unless you don't have any of them- I'm still keeping the ones that were issued in the late 80s-early 90s. When will Pal Joey, Can-Can and High Society be issued??

European Board Members Meeting
vajerzy replied to rockefeller center's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
It's refreshing reading posts from people in Europe and surrounding areas showing that not everyone on the board is from the US and Canada. Amazes me how the internet brings people from other countries and continents closer together! -

How To Donate To The Organissimo Forums

I treasure my signed copy of the Waiting for the Bugaloo Sisters......what does that title mean anyway?? I don't think you need to have a Paypal account to donate- I was reading various ways to add paypal to my HS reunion site and it states that someone doesn't have to join to send money- just a credit card. Smart move on PayPal's part. A few bucks from each person will add up fast!! Great site and I don't even want to know how much time you spend overseeing the forum..... -
Dan- it *really* is the 25th- I'm shocked to say even that!! I can't believe it went that fast!! We've creating a special checking account for the reunion and will link to it to Paypal. I suggested to have a mirror savings account so when the money arrives in the checking- electronically transfer it to the savings, so it's one step removed. Paypal has been very convenient for me and I believe it will be convenient for the attendees who live far away- to pay for their ticket. One lives in Belgium and one in London- they are planning on attending.

I'm planning my 25th high school reunion and I'm considering using paypal on our class web site to allow people to pay for the reunion. We're scattered all over the US and this may make it easier than mailing a check. I've visited the web site paypalsucks.com and nopaypal.com and read the horror stories there. Personally I haven't had any issues with them, other than now charging the same cost for using your checking/savings account as a credit card. So: do you like them? Why, or why not?? Can I create a payment setup where someone doesn't have to create an account to pay with a credit card?

Yesterday evening we received 3.48 inches of rain- from 4:30PM- 10:00 PM, with 3 inches coming in 2.25 hours. My gravel driveway now has a mini Grand Canyon in it and deep ravines down one side. I've had 5.06 inches for June.

Congrats Johnny!! It's so tough to get that first home, but after that, it's easier since you build the equity and homes rarely go down in price. You'll learn some new skills because you realize quick that doing things takes money and someone else doing them takes even more money!! My wife and I are redoing our kitchen- after seeing the cost to re-tile the floor and hang cabinets- I think we'll try it ourselves. I never hung cabinets and never tiled a floor....... BTW- ours was built in 1907.......a certain charm living in an older home.
-
We'll stay around- my son graduates from college on Saturday, On Sunday I'm taking my 4 year old girl canoeing and fishing, and Monday we'll take a ride up to the Blue Ridge Parkway and just lazy around the area, coming back to BBQ in the afternoon. Glad I'm not traveling. Dan- did you purchase a home warranty when you bought your place?

vajerzy replied to vajerzy's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
At least the students will remember this one for a long time. I forget what mine was, let alone who gave it......20 years ago..... -

He grew up in Mechanicsville, VA, about 10 miles NE of Richmond. Don't know much about him and don't know his music but the kids like him.
