I get tired of it too. Call me wishy washy but I like full shows and I like comps. Some of my favorite Dicks Picks are comps: DP 12 - Providence & Boston 6/26 & 6/28/74 DP 14 - Boston 11/30 & 12/02/73 DP 04 - Fillmore East 12/13-14/70 DP 18 - Madison & Cedar Falls 2/3-5/78 (1 song from the 4th I believe) DP 31 - Philly & Jersey City 8/4-6/74 There are other excellent ones too, like that Lake Tahoe '68 one (DP 22), plus the stone cold classics that you mention above. Some people gripe about the overdubs on Europe '72. Who effin' cares, it's a beautiful record! I have lots of Europe '72 shows, but I go back to album often.

Here's the famous guitar. Here's the shoes that Van Halen sells. And here's the Nike shoe that's he's suing over. I hope Eddie wins, but then again, my loathing of Nike is borderline pathological.

The latest Road Trip is from what's probably my favorite month & year of Dead. June '74, Wall of Sound! The meat of Des Moines 6-16 and Louisville 6-18. A link to your favorite store that never messes up orders I'm taking the risk at order weirdness happening even though I have both shows in full. Louisville might be my alltime favorite show, though it's stupid to try to pick just one when there's so many great shows from '69, '72, '73, '68, '77... Let's hope we don't have any ordering horror stories and we all get our discs lickety split!

I'll say Dr. Lonnie Smith when he's unwrapped. Or perhaps his poodle if he has one.

database software for organizing collection?
Quincy replied to jazzhound's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Not legally at least. They also have a more consumer friendly database with some ready made templates called Bento 2. It may be too simple though. Here's some more Mac options, a couple are free, most are not. -
database software for organizing collection?
Quincy replied to jazzhound's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
thanks, I took a look. does it allow adding fields or have a field to describe condition or denote pressing, ie. first or second? It's designed more to keep track of sessions rather than your own albums. Although if you have a lot of time on your hands it can do the latter. As far as I know you can't add fields. There are different types of notes (for sessions, work, & source) you can use in the sessions area but there aren't notes available for issues (aka albums). I use Brian and it's a terrific program but I don't use it as a way to keep track of my albums. You might want to consider Music Collector. You can download a trial version that will give you an idea whether it's for you or not. Chances are whatever program you choose (or even if you design your own database) you're going to have to do a lot of data entry (or correcting info that is downloaded.) But it can be something to do while listening to music, casually watching sports and whatnot. -
You need to rescan the stations*. Check your remote for "menu" or something like that. Whatever you did when you first bought the box. Yeah, it was rotten timing if you were a hockey fan given that rescanning would be required in most cities for some station or another. *rereading your post perhaps it might now be antenna related if the above doesn't work.

He should give baseball's Tommy John a call. Left the Dodgers for the Yankees after losing twice to them, then loses with the Yanks vs. LA in '81. That's gotta hurt. Penguins surprised me. Pittsburgh is back to being the city of champions...er, other than that Pirate problem.

TVfool.com can help in showing signal strength and map where the TV stations are broadcasting from. (I used to get this info from a different site but have lost the bookmark, though the info appears to be the same.) Generally speaking if you have a little bit of snow in the analog picture or occasionally fuzz in the sound then the digital equivalent of that station may not come in as digital tends to be "all or nothing." You may also have to move the rabbit ears around for certain stations too. To me the biggest annoyance is when the reception is such that the picture is fine but there are audio dropouts. For us this happens the most with NBC, so it can make it seem like words are being bleeped out of the Thursday night comedies.

That's right, and there are a few shrinks and counselor types on board too. I'll print out my paypal receipt and see if insurance will pay for my donation.

Futurama coming back to network TV in 2010
Quincy replied to ejp626's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I would think so. Unless you count Lassie's ever changing owners. Collies must live well into their 40s. -
I've been digital since January with the converter box. The same old rabbit ears (V & O-ring) that I used when the signals were analog work great.

I've heard on Dan Patrick and read elsewhere that a guess is at least a 4 game suspension, perhaps a game or 2 more but not a full season. Like you what he did sickens me, but like you say, he did indeed serve time. It's often been said if you want to try to imagine what doing prison time is like lock yourself in your bathroom. Then throw in everything else in the prison environment you're not getting with your recreation. Yikes. What he did was horrible, but the NFL has allowed just as bad if not worse back in with lighter (if any) sentences served. If he can handle it, let him play and face the wrath.

The gnosis site is sorta fun to mess around with because: 1) They use a 15 point scale. This is different. Face it, there's little difference between a 10 and a 5 point scale if the latter uses 1/2 points. I know I know, many people have problems with trying to quantify art, but c'mon, we all do it whether or not we're assigning points. 2) The reviewer abbreviations allow for some creative filtering. A few years ago when I discovered the site I decided to look for reviewers (note the abbreviations when looking at numerical reviews) who rated In A Silent Way, Quadrophenia and Burnt Weenie Sandwich highly as my guide. I think there were 3 people at the time who gave each album at least a 14. It ended up this system was not foolproof by any means, but it was still fun to fart around when I was bored one night. I am not a full-blooded prog fan though I have a hell of a lot of King Crimson from all eras and a few other bands that fall in that category, but I like the gnosis site if for no other reason they recognize standard deviation in reviews, along with having a unique point scale.

Maybe I just take it for granted what a browser can do nowadays, but it's been causing problems for the past few months. Typically it's when I add the 7th tab or so and in-between some Java app has been running too (StatTracker, a fantasy sports app). Bitch bitch bitch...nonetheless I may give Safari 4 a try as the main browser (on the Mac) as I think organissimo no longer crashes Safari like it used to a couple of years ago.

Silence, Love or No Love for Lionel Hampton set????
Quincy replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Depends on the year when it was bought and the amount spent, but actually the Mosaic may be a bargain. Inflation calculator -
Yeah, I kinda like the humor in it actually. Face it, no matter what she named it there are always going to be some who view the whole enterprise as money-grabbing etc. (not singling out anyone here, just saying she's damned how she do it any matter how she do it pretty much.) I finally got around to ordering Vol 3 as this announcement reminded me about the past release. The samples of Vol 3 are outstanding, can't wait for it to arrive. And this 3 disc set looks interesting, so thanks for the notice.

Can't help with the automatic part. I've been using collectorz which you link to. I sped up the process by initially not entering the musician information for nonjazz albums. Now I've been going back on days when I don't feel reading or doing something else with my time. There are annoyances with the little bit of information that gets automatically entered. A simple thing like "label" can end up as "Warner Bros.", "Warner Bros", "Warner/WEA" and so forth. Some people misuse the "format" field so "live" will show up there. "Genre" is another troublesome field, with silly things like "General Jazz" showing up. The problem is that all of these are automatically added to the master lists, so you have to periodically purge what you don't like. It's always something. At least the autofill is your friend when it comes to adding personnel. Within a week there should be a Music Collectorz ap for the iphone/ipod Touch that will display your collection for when you're shopping in a brick & mortar store and can't remember what you own. Just in the nick 'o time while a few stores still exist! There is a website called Rateyourmusic where you enter your collection online. However I don't think it will help at all if you want to see all of your albums that Hank Mobley plays on or other personnel information. I think the best potential is for some sort of online database but I don't think Rateyourmusic is there yet. But trying to have accurate information over thousands of albums is one heck of a difficult endeavor!

Has anyone found a way to actually kill
Quincy replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Try DIE-AH-TOM-AY-SHUS and southernize it. (Or maybe I already have.) That'll be close enough. Anyone familiar with pest control will know what you're getting at. Safer is one brand and here's what some of their offerings look like. Not sure where or if they sell in your area. I sometimes use the stuff in what sorta looks like a fast food ketchup or mustard plastic dispenser (#5168), though not against fire ants. -
Wow! Now I see why our Federal Building went with that model. It is now safe from trucks loaded with sand!

Sports: 2009 NBA Play-Offs Pool
Quincy replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Just like in life I peaked early. Looking back at my horrible picks I still think if Portland had gotten past Houston they had a shot to knock off LA as they were nicely matched up against them, but now I think had they managed that feat they would have gone down in flames vs. Denver. If only the NBA had a consolation bracket... -
He goes for 300 against the Senators in DC. Probably been awhile if ever for a 300th win to be won in that city (he states without checking...) *edit to add - May 14, 1920 Walter Johnson beat the Tigers for #300 in DC. He also won his 400th (May 2, 1926) at Griffith Stadium, DC vs. the A's. It's been awhile, good luck Big Unit.

I'm waiting for the post where the quoting doesn't fit on one computer screen page. I can't imagine trying to follow this on my iPod Touch. Uh, not that I'm reading it mind you, I'm just guessing we've been through this already.

If you're in the mood for some high quality scans of players from the 1960s & '70s, check out Steve's Baseball Photography site. There are early shots of Padres, some especially nice ones of Koufax, Marichal from not the usual place in his windup, Oscar Gamble in full hair mode, Reggie Smith as a Cardinal, and lots of guys who weren't particularly great but may bring a smile if you hadn't thought about them for awhile.

He's turned into a roadrunner too with 4 steals and hasn't been caught. I feel like I owe the guy an apology as I wasn't that thrilled when he returned to Seattle in '04, but he just kept in knocking in runs and has a great eye. Obviously he likes your park, but he's hitting whether home or away, righty or lefty. Just like Edgar (Martinez, for those of you not on a 1st name basis like M's fans ) he's a guy who got a late start in the bigs but once he got established he made the most of it. I tip my cap to him.
