  1. That's right, and there are a few shrinks and counselor types on board too. I'll print out my paypal receipt and see if insurance will pay for my donation.
  2. I would think so. Unless you count Lassie's ever changing owners. Collies must live well into their 40s.
  3. I've been digital since January with the converter box. The same old rabbit ears (V & O-ring) that I used when the signals were analog work great.
  4. I've heard on Dan Patrick and read elsewhere that a guess is at least a 4 game suspension, perhaps a game or 2 more but not a full season. Like you what he did sickens me, but like you say, he did indeed serve time. It's often been said if you want to try to imagine what doing prison time is like lock yourself in your bathroom. Then throw in everything else in the prison environment you're not getting with your recreation. Yikes. What he did was horrible, but the NFL has allowed just as bad if not worse back in with lighter (if any) sentences served. If he can handle it, let him play and face the wrath.
  5. The gnosis site is sorta fun to mess around with because: 1) They use a 15 point scale. This is different. Face it, there's little difference between a 10 and a 5 point scale if the latter uses 1/2 points. I know I know, many people have problems with trying to quantify art, but c'mon, we all do it whether or not we're assigning points. 2) The reviewer abbreviations allow for some creative filtering. A few years ago when I discovered the site I decided to look for reviewers (note the abbreviations when looking at numerical reviews) who rated In A Silent Way, Quadrophenia and Burnt Weenie Sandwich highly as my guide. I think there were 3 people at the time who gave each album at least a 14. It ended up this system was not foolproof by any means, but it was still fun to fart around when I was bored one night. I am not a full-blooded prog fan though I have a hell of a lot of King Crimson from all eras and a few other bands that fall in that category, but I like the gnosis site if for no other reason they recognize standard deviation in reviews, along with having a unique point scale.
  6. Maybe I just take it for granted what a browser can do nowadays, but it's been causing problems for the past few months. Typically it's when I add the 7th tab or so and in-between some Java app has been running too (StatTracker, a fantasy sports app). Bitch bitch bitch...nonetheless I may give Safari 4 a try as the main browser (on the Mac) as I think organissimo no longer crashes Safari like it used to a couple of years ago.
  7. Depends on the year when it was bought and the amount spent, but actually the Mosaic may be a bargain. Inflation calculator
  8. Yeah, I kinda like the humor in it actually. Face it, no matter what she named it there are always going to be some who view the whole enterprise as money-grabbing etc. (not singling out anyone here, just saying she's damned how she do it any matter how she do it pretty much.) I finally got around to ordering Vol 3 as this announcement reminded me about the past release. The samples of Vol 3 are outstanding, can't wait for it to arrive. And this 3 disc set looks interesting, so thanks for the notice.
  9. Can't help with the automatic part. I've been using collectorz which you link to. I sped up the process by initially not entering the musician information for nonjazz albums. Now I've been going back on days when I don't feel reading or doing something else with my time. There are annoyances with the little bit of information that gets automatically entered. A simple thing like "label" can end up as "Warner Bros.", "Warner Bros", "Warner/WEA" and so forth. Some people misuse the "format" field so "live" will show up there. "Genre" is another troublesome field, with silly things like "General Jazz" showing up. The problem is that all of these are automatically added to the master lists, so you have to periodically purge what you don't like. It's always something. At least the autofill is your friend when it comes to adding personnel. Within a week there should be a Music Collectorz ap for the iphone/ipod Touch that will display your collection for when you're shopping in a brick & mortar store and can't remember what you own. Just in the nick 'o time while a few stores still exist! There is a website called Rateyourmusic where you enter your collection online. However I don't think it will help at all if you want to see all of your albums that Hank Mobley plays on or other personnel information. I think the best potential is for some sort of online database but I don't think Rateyourmusic is there yet. But trying to have accurate information over thousands of albums is one heck of a difficult endeavor!
  10. Try DIE-AH-TOM-AY-SHUS and southernize it. (Or maybe I already have.) That'll be close enough. Anyone familiar with pest control will know what you're getting at. Safer is one brand and here's what some of their offerings look like. Not sure where or if they sell in your area. I sometimes use the stuff in what sorta looks like a fast food ketchup or mustard plastic dispenser (#5168), though not against fire ants.
  11. Wow! Now I see why our Federal Building went with that model. It is now safe from trucks loaded with sand!
  12. Just like in life I peaked early. Looking back at my horrible picks I still think if Portland had gotten past Houston they had a shot to knock off LA as they were nicely matched up against them, but now I think had they managed that feat they would have gone down in flames vs. Denver. If only the NBA had a consolation bracket...
  13. He goes for 300 against the Senators in DC. Probably been awhile if ever for a 300th win to be won in that city (he states without checking...) *edit to add - May 14, 1920 Walter Johnson beat the Tigers for #300 in DC. He also won his 400th (May 2, 1926) at Griffith Stadium, DC vs. the A's. It's been awhile, good luck Big Unit.
  14. I'm waiting for the post where the quoting doesn't fit on one computer screen page. I can't imagine trying to follow this on my iPod Touch. Uh, not that I'm reading it mind you, I'm just guessing we've been through this already.
  15. If you're in the mood for some high quality scans of players from the 1960s & '70s, check out Steve's Baseball Photography site. There are early shots of Padres, some especially nice ones of Koufax, Marichal from not the usual place in his windup, Oscar Gamble in full hair mode, Reggie Smith as a Cardinal, and lots of guys who weren't particularly great but may bring a smile if you hadn't thought about them for awhile.
  16. He's turned into a roadrunner too with 4 steals and hasn't been caught. I feel like I owe the guy an apology as I wasn't that thrilled when he returned to Seattle in '04, but he just kept in knocking in runs and has a great eye. Obviously he likes your park, but he's hitting whether home or away, righty or lefty. Just like Edgar (Martinez, for those of you not on a 1st name basis like M's fans ) he's a guy who got a late start in the bigs but once he got established he made the most of it. I tip my cap to him.
  17. Well that's a relief. I thought Chris had sent you a letter.
  18. As often is the case, some of good pitching is a reflection of good defense. And Texas has improved its infield defense. Part of it is good defensive/poor hitting players tend to be cheaper than subpar defensive/good hitting players which fits in great in this rough economy, but perhaps more teams are seeing the light as far as defense being an important part of the game. If you police the PEDs the ball stays in the park more, so you'd better have good gloves.
  19. Not sure about the reasonable part but they still offer downloads of DPs. Your choice of 128k mp3, 256 mp3, and FLAC. When you click on the title and get the detail page right above "Add To Cart" you have the option of picking whatever format you want. Its default is CD. For a 3 disc Dick's Pick the breakdown is as follows: 128 mp3 - $14.49 256 mp3 - $15.99 FLAC - -- - $17.99 CD - $21 + shipping, and maybe some of your time to email & call too. (Glad the order finally arrived for you HolyStitt.) They've also made the download only series available again. See "Downloads" found between "DVDs" and "Vinyl" under Music.
  20. Well just in case they notice the thread, add another who's interested. And having recently picked up the Pacific Jazz Piano Trio Select the inclusion of Clare Fischer on some of the sessions adds even more interest.
  21. Well I found it interesting. Note one can click on the author's "name" and see other articles he's written easily enough. He does tend to view things from a racial perspective but someone has to so that doesn't bug me and also he's interesting enough based on a couple of other articles of his I read. For what's it's worth a few making-baby-centric sites that don't appear to be totally whacked do indeed prominently list the drug as a fertility treatment for men. At this point privacy is pretty much done for, so if it is the reason Manny might as well say so, not that many will believe him whatever he says. But no matter which way it falls I don't really care. He's been a fantastic player & colorful character, almost like something that's a combination of folklore & science fiction. As I'm not an elderly ticket agent or a spurned Red Sox fan I've greatly enjoyed the way he's carried himself throughout the years. Guess I have a thing for goofy eccentrics.
  22. Nice! Those DiMaggio kids sure could field. Dom had a pretty good hitting streak of his own, ultimately stopped by brother Joe's glove. Bobby Doer is still alive and sharp-witted too. He lives in a neighboring small Oregon town and appears at a signing at an RV place (I believe he's a friend of the owner) at least once a year.
  23. Ah shucks guys, c'mon, this is the baseball forum. No complimentary kind of talk allowed here! I definitely appreciate the idea of bunting there too, but aside from spending too much time with the Bill James Abstracts in the '80s I blame Earl Weaver as much as anyone for my love of the 3 run inning. (I need to check out that Earl Weaver youtube clip again.) I think growing up watching Lou Brock caused me to be allergic to the bunt too. Lou made it look so easy. Why bunt? Just steal 2nd, then advance to the 3rd on the out or score on the single. Crawford can do that alright too.
  24. You know managers have it rough when fans complain about a 3 run inning. Kapler has had 3 successful SH in his past 1220 plate appearances. He spends more time muscling up than practicing bunts me thinks. Had he bunted you would have had Navarro coming up (.179) followed by the deep-in-a-slump B.J. hitting .157. Kapler is your best hitter of the moment. :rsmile:
  25. Unfortunately I picked the Blazers to win the next series.
