Ugh. How I wish we could wave a wand and make it happen (I'd send him anywhere, it doesn't have to be the Yankees.) Still holding onto mad optimism though, as back-to-back 1 run losses with Ichiro out...Uh, well, I'm remaining optimistic anyway! I mean the team can't be as bad as the economy can it? Also while I know I'm supposed to be jaded about such things, but it does make me smile to see "Griffey" batting 3rd. I know, he turns 40 around Thanksgiving (hey Beri, I did the math right this time), but I can't help it. Ya know, I bet Edgar could still hit .310...

One of the stated objectives for the update was to make it speedier. I think they succeeded. It also fixes some bugs and does a bunch of other little things that may not apply relating to iPods, store matters and adds Genius (which I have yet to mess with) to the sidebar.

Actually more young 'uns are gravitating to vinyl now. Inexpensive USB turntables make it possible to rip cheap used LPs they find at garage/car boot sales, and many new vinyl releases by indie bands include a way to legally download mp3s with the purchase. So the cool kids already own their Beatles and won't be buying the remasters.

Hey, nice game by the Mariners tonight, Felix Hernandez was lights out. Mariners have the best record in baseball now... And Griffey homers! He's got just a bit o' paunch compared to photos from too many years ago when he was last in a Mariner's uniform. The sight of him in that uni makes me feel younger so I like it! I love how spring fever can throw out all rationality. I mean with Angels elderly OF and injuries to their pitching staff, and the Rangers always have terrible pitching, and maybe injuries will hit the A's hard, so the M's with their improved defense, and Jr. helping to create better dugout chemistry by deflecting the bad feelings about Ichiro, maybe... Yes, sentence structure goes out the window too! I'm going to enjoy first place while it lasts, and sure love having baseball back!

I first read the news via a snarky report on Pitchfork. I immediately thought of the Hoffman server exploding from too many posts. YEOW!, 28,000 views on a pre-order thread.

Happy Birthday Allen Lowe

Happy birthday to you (and your little dog too!) -
I think they're talking about these rascals.

While the past 3 years the releases have been in May or June in 2005 and earlier they were released in October. In this environment who knows? Hopefully Bluerein, Kevin or someone else in the know will pipe up if they've heard anything.

Yeah - but the "fine print" says that the single purchase has to be an item of list price $20 or more. Really? I've read the coupon five times now and either I'm totally oblivious, going blind, or maybe it just ain't there? Most of the time the put a "must be $20 or more" restriction on the coupon. Not this time though.

I have come across some of the earliest CDRs (borrowed and they were brands that aren't around anymore) that sound like static on many players yet I was able to extract the music and burn it on a new disc and it sounded fine. It's worth a shot, though I don't want to raise your expectations too high.

As one who is allergic to long off course Pigpen "Lovelight" raps I think you'll have little problem with this version. The song is under 10 minutes and other than riffing some on "all I need" Pigpen doesn't stray into the pants pocket, the girl next to ya or any of that. As for the Jerry acoustic...well...the copy I had was recorded nicely, but I gave mine away a couple of years ago. I think they picked this as it required next to nothing in the mastering/mixing dept. 5/28/77 is an excellent show. It's long been a favorite of the less talked about May '77 shows (as in not 5/8 or officially released.) Guess the 2nd set of 5-4 now takes that role.

Yeah, I've read Scott's "Understanding Comics" too hence my wondering how the segments worked (if at all.) I came across a glowing review about the motion comic somewhere and was suspicious, and I thought it odd that one actor did all of the voices too. The book is such a delight to linger at certain panels and as you say, go along at your own pace. I suppose I will poke around the web to see the examples for the hell of it, but more than likely leave it at that.

Indeed! Thanks for this and the recent James Brown too. I've decided I like reality TV after all, though it helps if it's at least 30 years old and involves jazz or r&b musicians.
-
Thanks for the review of this as I've been curious. Glad to hear the Hollis Mason bit is interesting too. Nice touch using the Nina Simone song! Aren't there a few samples of the of the animated comic that's on another DVD as well? How is that? Not sure why, but I'm moderately curious about that for some reason. Perhaps just to see the artwork in a larger format. For whatever the faults of the movie one finds, I'm still feeling the glow of rereading the story again.

Do you mean Sally Struthers? Ah, of course. Yikes! Though those endless Boniva ads with Ms. Fields are kinda getting on my nerves.

I see the same thing. My mother-not-technically-an-in-law refuses to buy books from Borders. She finds it disgusting that they let people read books that they haven't bought around food & drink. Her voice sounds just like Edith Bunker as she states her fear of coming home with a book and discovering a coffee stain 3/4s of a way through her book. It's hilarious to hear her go on about it other than I have this fear that I'll turn around and Archie Bunker will be behind me, or even more frightening Sally Field.

Yes, it was fun picking off the Pentatone SACDs last year at 40% off. One of those rare times where a store coupon beat the Net. I don't think they bother ordering the higher priced stuff now though. The classical section has been chopped in 1/2 if not more and jazz is much smaller as well. A row of manga has infiltrated the real estate once used for CDs.

Shame on me for forgetting to mention him. Then again, he is in the Hall...

I lean towards yes even though he only had 6 to 8 very good to great seasons. He's kind of lucky that one of his worst seasons was in the strike year of '94 so he didn't lose anything from it. It will certainly lead to a debate on counting numbers (Blyleven, Kaat, John, Mussina) vs. the shorter career but possessing something else, usually a combination of postseason and "folklore" (Hunter, Drysdale, Schilling.) There's a place for both, at least given the standards they've been using for the past 50 years or so. I think you will see some (mostly detractors) point out similarities with Kevin Brown, maybe even Bob Welch (not saying they're accurate to a tee mind you.) It will rile up Jack Morris fans too, at least for the post season part of the argument. Though I'm sure Phillie fans remember one of his playoff clutch performances that tends to be forgotten was his win in game 5 of the '93 series. A must win and he shut 'em out. No special sock required.

The latest Road Trips is a heavyweight champ 2-14-1968 Though this show circulates in superb quality thanks to the efforts of Charlie Miller, they are adding some extras to try to get people who already have the show. nat cole capitol transcription sessions?
Quincy replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Just in case it isn't known this set can be had at yourmusic for $20.97. Funny the things that can found when perusing the box sets. -
Probably folks are just trying to erase the image from the Details photo shoot outta their brain, but I thought some here might want to use this as an avatar.

I think it stands a better chance. There's no benefit for sending 12 discs to a friend's address and all those other delightful scams that happened with the Club.
