Word is he loves hitting. How much that is worth to him, who knows? Probably not a lot, but it may be a factor. He's also a West Coast guy. (His fantasy football team is named the USC Buckeyes. He shared ownership with a friend and he said the USC was his contribution to team name.) I'm thinking he may be a Dodger. I wouldn't be that surprised if he was willing to leave a few million dollars on the table if he values that SoCal kind of living.

Yeah, apparently he's not familiar with the double switch. Maddon knows the double switch and used it with RF in a previous game. His reasoning was twofold: 1) He really liked the matchup of Howell vs. Burrell 2) With it being such a close game he was afraid of burning through his pitchers and not having enough left. It's always tricky to use long-term planning when you're facing elimination, and it ends up he was on the losing end. And remember, Kaz had only pitched 4 innings and Wheeler had been roughed up last time out. All that said I'm inclined to pinch hit and there and hope it all works out for pitching later, but things can get ugly when it doesn't.

Wow! I think baseball might be onto something. Surely this wasn't on too late for the children. Congrats J.H. and Phillie fans! And a great season by Tampa Bay Paps. They sure look to be a dangerous team in the East, especially with a full season from Price!

The Google cars and vans have been seen in reflections on some of the Streetview shots. I was mapping out a trip to the Portland OR suburbs last fall and was surprised to see that Streetview had expanded its range. So after getting my map I tried various other addresses in other cities and saw that my sister's neighborhood outside of Philly was included in Streetview. I go up her street and see this boy a couple of houses down walking down the sidewalk. It was my nephew! My sister kind of freaked out about it (yes, the Google Streetview van is famous for snatching young boys away from their parents.) Google Streetview is Big Brother!

Yes, Bud has some magic Commish dust that we didn't know about. Glad to see some common sense rule breaking happening (hey, while you're at it use some instant reply when it's so obvious too.) And I know the cliche about hindsight, but if he intended to use his magical powers you'd think they could have shut the game down at least 1/2 an hour earlier. If Bud was in charge of the Indy 500 they'd have to bury half the field before he decided to call it. I looked up the days of rain between games 5 & 6 of the '75 series (that's where Tiant was moved up to game 6.) There were 4 extra days off due to rain! Whew, how on earth did the 12 year old me have the patience to wait that one out?

As I said earlier, they canceled 3 classicals in my list. Tonight I searched for those titles on the site and found all of them. I put them in my basket and placed an order. I will report back if they ship. Thanks for the tip. I was hoping this might happen. Searching has always been dicey at yourmusic but it seems to be worse than ever. The Takacs Quartet Schubert: Death And The Maiden did not come up under "composer Schubert" but it did for "artist Takacs." If you don't first succeed...

BUD SELIG IS A MOTHERFUCKING lucky FUCKHEAD.

Woo hoo, what a game! Jamie Moyer is my hero. A damn good game out of the former Cub, Ranger, & Mariner. I'd think most fans of those franchises are happy for the guy. Great scoop and barehanded catch between Moyer & Howard on the bunt that was incorrectly called (but a tough call for the ump.) Upton's run around the bases, 5 man infield in the 9th...great stuff, and a great series.

What do you think of the "I came across..." thread
Quincy replied to Christiern's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Absolutely love it! Would also like to add what a surprise and joy the drawings of the ships have been as well. Thanks for sharing. -
Used copies of Stan Getz's Serenity and Cecil Taylor's Looking Ahead! Sometimes nice things show up when you haven't checked the store in a month!

But the last time I looked (a day or two ago), many of the jazz "New Arrivals" were classical... A "5 Star Classical Album" includes The Who's Quadrophenia. Well, it is a rock opera!

HOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That's a great price! This is a case where I was ready to pay $20ish and not mind so much as it's high quality, but of course I don't mind saving money either. Thank you much for the tips - off to visit the BIS site to sign up.

Whenever I see publicity pictures of them for some reason I think of the kids from Village Of The Damned. I can't help it, I'm too distracted wondering if there's some plastic protection on the legs of the pianos to pay attention to the music. (From what I've read this wasn't "green screened.") Not the best environment for pianos, though hopefully they weren't outside during the heat of the day.

I intend to keep up. I have the first 5. Usually the online places are so good at telling me what I want based on past purchases, but I had to go out on my own to discover #6 was out. It's a terrific series.

I'm so used to Dan picking up the slack in baseball posts. I like this series, and the game had some tense moments not necessarily reflected in the score. I'll be curious to see when Price can be used next given that he threw 42 pitches. Until mid-Nov. I'm the same age as Jamie Moyer, so I have a vested interest in him not embarrassing my age group. I he fails in that bandbox I'll disavow the age and go back to importance of the birth year.

Yikes! I just had 9 emails informing me of classical titles that are no longer available. Glad I got what I got when the getting was good.

As you know the All-Star Game decides home field advantage for the World Series. Kazmir pitched relief in the 15th for the win. Lidge gave up the winning run and took the loss. (Mel Allen voice) Now how about that!

I think it was a combination of feeling he was spending too much time on the board, coupled with disgust about the tone of the board, namely a thread and some posts critical of Oscar Peterson that popped up immediately after Oscar's death. I think he found the timing (rather than the criticism itself) distasteful. I think I spotted him over at Hoffman shortly after he left here, but lost him amongst all of the Monkees threads and "DCC or MSFL Olivia Newton-John Greatest Hits" debates. (Okay, I made up the the latter, but you know how it is over there.)

You probably read it by now, but it was 200-1.

Pretty happening times for organissimo. And well deserved!

It's been a fresh blood kind of postseason for this decade. White Sox, Astros, Rockies, Angels, Giants, Diamond Backs and yes, the Red Sox were once fresh too. (But like fish & family...) It had been awhile for the Tigers & Cardinals too. Now the Marlins on the other hand, c'mon, 2 titles for those newbies. Argh. I happy with the matchup as both Phillies & Rays are playing good ball. The only way I wanted to see the Sox was if the Dodgers got in, just to watch all of that neurotic ugliness. That reminded of the Super Bowl where John Madden saying the Pats should take a knee with that kid Brady and try to win it overtime. I think Madden stopped by the time the Pats had crossed midfield. No more situational relief for Price - let 'em close! Then see ya in the rotation next year. Yes indeed! What a story. And darn it, add the Rays to Marlins & Diamond Backs of teams younger than the Mariners to make it to the World Series.

Ever since that Matt Stairs quote it seems like I'm hearing more comments like this by announcers. The batter vs. pitcher numbers (which were small samples anyway) have been tossed out the window. Youk was 0 for 17 vs. Shields before the playoffs but has hit his ass hard in the playoffs. (Er...sorry.) There are other examples. Tough to hang too much on such tiny numbers. But one thing I'll be interested to see though is if Tampa moves Bartlett up in the order. He gets on vs. LHP and even has some punch and seems to be a better pick than Iwamura. For a team that is so quant-oriented it seems like a move to make.

What was the L O U D E S T concert you ever attended?
Quincy replied to Free For All's topic in Miscellaneous Music
As far as I can remember The Clash but it was loud mostly because of venue & where I was at relative to the speakers. I think the most hearing damage I ever had from an event was at a local go-kart grand prix. I think the "winner" will be the posters who saw My Bloody Valentine on their recent tour as the band was supposedly playing at 130 db & beyond (and handing out earplugs as you walked in.) -
Hooray hooray! Happy Birthday!
