There are plenty of people that I've met over the years who seemed to think because they were a minority they could "do anything they wanted" with no fear of reprisals. The worst case of this was a co-worker who was black and also a homosexual (I'm not intolerant), but he would proudly tell this to all his co-workers and say things like "there's no way they'll fire a gay black man". When he was written up for a office rules infraction he filed a lawsuit against my boss (who was the nicest guy on the planet). This essentially tied Human Resources hands...and his behavior worsened the entire time this was going on. He "had" to have a larger computer monitor than anyone else in the office, his own personal refrigerator, the most expensive office chair he could find...and while he was getting all these perks he was rubbing it in the noses of the rest of the staff "see how a black man can scam the system", etc. Eventually the department had a layoff and managed to dump him in amongst the others...he did manage to walk out with that monitor and refrigerator though... No real lesson to be learned here, other than playing the race card can come from multiple directions.

Well, I'm sure it's happened...plus there for awhile the "Bengals" could have changed their name to "The Johnsons"...Chad Johnson, Rudi Johnson, Jeremy Johnson...I think there were about 6 of them...none related.

Texture I don't mind, it's the abrasion that bothered me.

That falls somewhere between utter stupidity and genius...but I'm not high enough to know for sure.

Well, for the first time in recent memory they'll actually have to put up a little bit of a fight in their division, they're one game behind the Bills and tied with the Jets (did I just write that?), but they're not out of it yet. I agree with T.D., the defense is the larger concern than Cassell.

Isn't "Some Other Time" on Everybody Digs Bill Evans as a bonus track? Unless my memory is failing, Peace Piece came into being when Bill was trying to work out an intro for SOT during that session.

Don't shoot me, but I'm actually kind of happy for the Cardinals...they've been down for so long they deserve some kind of break. There's no reason they shouldn't win the NFC West this year...cause Seattle can't even tie their shoes. The Cowboys getting "knocked down a notch" actually might help them in the long run, sometimes a reality check is good to deflate the egos and make you realize that you're not invincible.

Doesn't make a damn bit of difference to me. I was financially fucked before this whole thing started...I'm just as fucked now. If things don't get better on the job front soon then I'm going to be buying some of these...

This really is a beautiful record and also madly swinging in that surreptitious way that only very few can manage to pull off. Despite Chewy's rather biased view point I love all of Giuffre's recordings from this era. If Mosaic ever did tackle the Verve material it would be an absolute must-buy set. Ad Lib is another great record from this period, Giuffre plays some wild Rollins-esque tenor on that one.

Is it my imagination or is this the sloppiest, most mediocre season of pro football...ever? There seem to be barely a handful of good teams and everybody else is either spotty at best or downright awful. I've never seen as many bad quarterback starting at one time....

...but the Seahawks are catching up. I'm so glad Holmgren is retiring after this season, time to go back to the drawing board with that team. Actually, what miracle is going to need to take place for the NFC west to be truly competitive? Only the Cardinals have any signs of life this year...and they're going to get killed when they go up against the stronger teams down the stretch.

The Redskins are looking scary good....it could come down to a battle between them and the Giants as king of the NFC heap.
