  1. Nah, that's more like "look at the alternate universe we SHOULD have had".
  2. ...8 years too fucking late!
  3. Yes, should have started working on it HARD back in the mid-70's as far as I'm concerned. But with the big oil companies lining the pockets of politicians for decades so they could protect their little energy monopoly...didn't happen. We're going to seriously regret it and sooner than we'd like. Steam Engines weren't such a bad thing...
  4. LOVE that version! A classic tune! R.I.P.
  5. I thought so too--or was it the high that one received, whether desired or not, from walking down the hall in our smoky dorm at the University of Wisconsin. Everything sounded good. Probably a little of both! I didn't own any Neil Young records in the 70's (except for CSN&Y stuff), so I never had the pleasure of hearing any of his albums on vinyl. But I love the the CDs I have...
  6. Meow!
  7. I bet it sounded great in a 70's era Chevy pickup with an 8-track though!
  8. Damn that's tempting....good thing I'm completely broke.

    Druid Jazz musicians

My favorite Druid jazz standard is "Stonehenge Dead In The Market".
  10. Happy Birthday! Hope it was a nice one!
  11. Reuben Wilson comes to mind.
  12. I loved The Interpreter, couldn't understand how that one slipped as far below the radar as it did.
  13. The first movie of his that I remember seeing was The Electric Horseman, I was only 9 when it came out but it made a lasting impression (my Mother and I used to take weekly trips to the movies). I'd like to see that one again sometime. There are very few that could balance acting/directing/producing at such a consistently high level.
  14. Wow, that's a shock! A very interesting career. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/obit_sydney_pollack http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001628/
  15. Really? My Jethro Tull's are fine. Well we're also talking about 1980's era thin crappy vinyl.
  16. Robin Trower - Victims Of The Fury (Chyrsalis 1980) - Killer record...typicaly horrible quality Chrysalis pressing.
  17. Through the beauty of the I.R.S. since I had my tax preparation fees deducted from my return...I don't qualify for the direct deposit so will be getting a paper check instead. WTF?
  18. When I went to work yesterday morning at 9:30am the gas station across the street was selling it at $3.64 a gallon. When I got off work at 7:30pm the same gas station was $3.75 a gallon. That's more than a 1 cent per hour increase....fucking insane.
  19. Actually you not only have to pay the actors, you have to get their permission to use the clips. Even for old movies. There's about to be an actors' strike over this very issue (amongst other things). The studios want to be able to sell clips without the actor's permissions, though they're offering to continue to pay for that right. Thanks for the clarification!
  20. Yes, because when the film was initially released they forgot to put the copyright information & logo on the print (which used to be one of the stipulations), so it was never under copyright to begin with and Romero has never made a dime from that film. That's the main reason he did the remake in color back in the 80's, so he could get some money from it. That's also why you can find about a million different VHS & DVD versions of the film...you could dub a copy and sell it yourself if you wanted. Found this on IMDB: At the time of the film's release, any work that did not include a copyright notice was assumed to be public domain. Since the film makers forgot to include this notice, the film slipped into the public domain. In was not until 1 March 1989 that a copyright notice was no longer required.
  21. Correct, the actors wouldn't have gotten money since the film in question was An Affair To Remember, at that point most actors were still under contract to studios so they were paid a base weekly salary and didn't get a share of the profits. That is no longer the case these days as most actors are paid a "lump sum" fee and many negotiate for a piece of the box office. P.S. - There are quite a few films out there in "Public Domain" land as well (copyrights weren't renewed, etc), so you could make a film and use entire sequences from say "Night of the Living Dead" and wouldn't have to pay anybody.
  22. Of course everyone knows I'm from the hills of West Virginy...up thar everyone sez "Coke" or "Cocola"...ya take a swim in the "Crick" or preferably a "swimmin' hole"...them long sammich's are called "Subs"...ya don't sit on a sofa, it's called a Davenport...if ya live up a dirt road you'se back in the "holler"...you pronounce "beer" and "bear" identiclly...if ya got kids they "youngin's"...ya probably pronounce "Toyota" the same as "Coyote"...and there's a good chance that a staple of every good meal is "government cheese".
