  1. And I'll be curious to hear a reasonable justification for the term of copyright in the United States. I completely see Chuck's point and he's right, both he and the artist deserve to be compensated for their work. But I also can't feel any "love" for either the RIAA or the current state of copyright law. I had to take copyright law in college (required course) and it didn't take me long to realize how utterly fucked up the whole mess is. There's got to be a middle ground somewhere...
  2. Lon is a mighty mountain of self control.
  3. PM sent on some of those Decca titles.
  4. I believe it's the same night as this CD (or at least the cover photo is the same night as the video, look at the clothes): That would make the date 07/10/84 at Montmartre. The rhythm section on the CD is Harry Pickens, Curtis Lundy & Kenny Washington.
  5. Here's some Griff & Lock for ya.... Griffin is also a master of dynamics.
  6. It's shows like this that make me wish I still lived in Seattle. Hell, I used to ride my bike down from Queen Anne hill to Ballard all the time.
  7. No wide receivers in the first round....that breaks a streak that had continued since the common draft was started.
  8. Probably messed up the price. Another oddity that I noticed recently. Some new releases are being made available 3 days early via Amazon download, so you can get the new album by your favorite artist a few days before all of us "old" cats can buy the physical CD. I say to that.
  9. Johnny Griffin & Woody Shaw This will SERIOUSLY kick your ass.
  10. Happy Birthday to the Almighty Griffin! Hands down my favorite tenor player...EVER!!!!!
  11. Very cool. I remember reading about that one and being curious. Mike Fitzgerald would be the one to ask about this album.
  12. Seahawks released Shaun Alexander. Seems like just yesterday he was signing a long term deal....
  13. I'm seriously considering finding another job specifically so I don't have to commute. The little bit of extra money I was using to live off of is now being sucked into the bottomless gas tank. I'm now working a second job basically so I can afford to buy the gas to get to the first job. I miss the days when I lived places like Seattle where a car wasn't necessary...
  14. So did I - out into the back garden for a fag MG "...as he bends to pick a dog-end." - Ian Anderson
  15. Haven't heard the Paris show...but that Copenhagen gig is a M-O-N-S-T-E-R!!!!
  16. 10 minutes for 1st round, 7 minutes for second, 5 for third. The draft has really become something different over the past few seasons, it used to come and go without much notice but now it's a full blown media event...NFL Network has been blathering on about it nonstop since the Superbowl.
  17. Hank played with all the greats of the era, but with a special few he had a chemistry that was otherworldly. Kenny Dorham Wynton Kelly Lee Morgan I've always suspected that Hank's rendering of Deep In A Dream on this date prompted Clark to revisit it with Ike Quebec a couple years later.
  18. It's just my personal preference, has nothing to do with the quality of the CDs. Cool?
  19. Live events are a different animal than albums, what works live doesn't naturally carry over to the studio and vice versa. I know that CD's have been around for over 20 years...but that still doesn't mean they're not too long.
  20. I've been saying that CD's were too long since the very beginning. I was still listening to rock at the time, when there started to be 13-15 songs per disc it just killed your ears and invariably the end of the disc would sound weak. Nothing wrong with the songs themselves, but by the time you finally get to them you're on sensory overload and don't have the capacity to truly appreciate them. The fact that the nature of digital also adds to ear fatigue (due to your ears having to fill in the gaps) it just made the problem worse. Anywhere between 40-50 minutes seems to be the sweet spot. My opinion of course.

    BST 84234?

I figured that was the case. I find it very interesting to see the songs that were scheduled to be on these releases. I assume that Lion picked the tracks(?). Think I'll play around with those Straight No Filter/Slice Of The Top tracks this morning.... Thanks for the info MG!

    BST 84234?

In the discography of the Turrentine Mosaic set it mentions the following under the sessions for Mr. Natural & In Memory Of... "These titles were first scheduled on BST 84234,which were never released. " Fried Pies In Memory Of Make Someone Happy Shirley Tacos Was this just an empty catalog number or did it have a title, etc?
  23. Happy Birthday Erik!
