  1. It's a brilliant album.
  2. Yes, it goes well with all the tall Amazon women running around this place.
  3. In case anybody knows someone that's looking for a place...or maybe just wants to say "hell with it" and move to the Lone Star state.... I've got a large master bedroom for rent. There's a huge walk-in closet and the apartment has free high speed internet access and basic cable. $350 per month plus half the utilities. No pets (I have a cat and she doesn't do well with others). Good location, can be downtown in about 5 minutes by car or a 12 minute bus ride. The community also has a pool, business center, free tanning, exercise room. PM if interested or if you have any leads. Thanks, Shawn
  4. SS1, I feel your pain man. I had some toast for breakfast, a peanut butter sandwich for lunch...and some Ramen noodles and another peanut butter sandwich for dinner. When I open my fridge there's an echo.
  5. Cool! Was the aroma nice?

Thanks, Shawn
  7. Just finished up: Richard Matheson - I Am Legend Now trying to figure out what next....
  8. When I was a kid in the 70's, Sanford & Son was one of my favorites and I used to watch it all the time.
  9. I still remember reading the liner notes to Permanent Waves and it listed Geddy Lee playing an "Oberheim Polyphonic"...and I thought...what the hell is that?
  10. YEAH! Happy Birthday Bro!
  11. Follow up: Since I followed the suggestion of creating a fresh profile for Firefox I have had hardly any issues. It crashed one time on a Google search results page, but aside from that it's working fine again.
  12. I haven't read that, but I'll add it to my want list, sounds like a winner. One song that sticks in my head is "Latona" from John Patton's Let 'Em Roll album, the riff to that song sounds like something either The Allman Brothers or Santana would be playing a few years later.
  13. I'm still a little fuzzy on where people think these 2 genres started (pre-Mahavishnu). There were a lot of experimental albums coming out in 1967 on both sides of the Atlantic. Can it be traced back pre-1967?
  14. I'm so tired of hearing that jazz is "high-brow", progressive music is for "artsy-types", rock is "blue collar" and metal is for "morons". I like all those styles of music and I don't like to be pigeonholed.
  15. E.L.O. was always an odd duck band, but endearing in their own way. I know many of the bands I listed in that previous thread were mostly successful in the U.S. I remember reading that Van Halen would be playing arena shows here in States and small clubs when they went to Europe. How about Rush? Did they get any attention in Europe at the time? Queen is still fairly iconic here as well, they played so many different styles of music in their career that they cast a fairly wide net.
  16. I mostly lived in rural areas during the late 70's, early 80's...never even heard punk until it was already over. If you were listening to mainstream American rock radio during that time you primarily heard bands like Foreigner, Styx, Journey, Heart, Boston, Queen, E.L.O., Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, Kiss, Van Halen, etc. The UK stuff from the same era that made an impact on me were the NWOBHM bands. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Venom, Witchfinder General, Tygers Of Pan Tang. Basically all the stuff that inspired the underground thrash movement that exploded in the U.S. in 1983. The post-punk college radio stuff from the 80's left me fairly cold at the time, as did the new wave thing. It seemed to have very little relevant connection to the people I hung around with.
  17. Thanks buddy. On hold for you.
  18. Al bought a copy off me about a month ago.
  19. I think being in music school helped, you already knew the "vocabulary" so the language that Miles was speaking on those electric albums wasn't completely alien. A non-musician who was listening to Chicago, Yes or Jethro Tull would most likely be utterly confused by Live Evil.
  20. price drop. Last chance before going to used store.
  21. I got a chance to see them quite a few times during SXSW and was able to meet and talk to a couple of the band members. When I asked the drummer who is biggest influence is he said "Elvin Jones". When I asked the guitarist the same question he said "Billy Gibbons".
  22. Haven't checked out Earthless yet I take it?
  23. That film won best music documentary at SXSW this year. They played 39 countries on that tour, with over 2 million people attending.
  24. I just got back on an Iron Maiden kick recently. Been enjoying Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son quite a bit. Those were the last two album I paid any attention to...and they've held up much better than I remember. I also agree with the comment that Piece Of Mind is overrated, I think it's the weakest record they released in the 80's.
