  1. Here's a good idea. Create a new forum called "The Playpen". Any posters who can't get over these childish virtual arguments are banished to "The Playpen" until they can learn to get along with each other. Once they've agreed to stop the temper tantrums they can come back out and post with the adults again.
  2. Battlestar Galactica - Season 3. This show is like a DISEASE!
  3. That your neighbor is a wingnut?
  4. I'm guessing so they could collect the check for writing the liner notes.
  5. Simple. I didn't want to see the posts from the Political forum when I used the "View New Posts" link at the top of the page. It began to feel like the ONLY discussion on this board was in that area and I just got sick of looking at it. What that has to with me being a "grown man" I have no idea.
  6. I haven't been posting here much, mostly because there seems to be so much "drama" going on all the time and I've got more than my fair share to deal with in my own life. I had the Political forum hidden from me because it was making my mental state worse. It's sad to see squabbles erupting in almost every thread. Give peace a chance.
  7. Thanks for sharing your insights guys...I'm glad the thread didn't die off completely, I was hoping for some more people's experiences. I came in a good decade too late (born in 1970), but eventually found my way down all these paths. In the 80's I was listening primarily to underground metal and bands like Rush, Pink Floyd & Yes. I always liked the more progressive sections that bands like Iron Maiden would work into their songs. I was also a subscriber to Guitar magazine at the time and kept reading about people like John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola and Robert Fripp being influences on alot of the 80's guitar players. So eventually I picked up a few albums like "Friday Night In San Francisco", "Land Of The Midnight Sun", etc. Then in the early 90s I finally got hipped to King Crimson and was completely floored. Luckily I was working in a music store at the time with a couple jazz lovers, they schooled me quick. A few years later I stumbled upon the Blue Note board, started corresponding with people like Lon and Jim R...then moved to Dallas and met Joe and Sangrey...which was like going to "living genius post-graduate school". Even though I've circled back around more towards the prog rock/fusion thing in the past couple years, I still see it as all parts of a very interesting period in music, to me one of the most important times in history (personally speaking).

    Wilbur Ware

Any dates featuring that Kenny Drew/Wilbur Ware/Philly Joe Jones lineup are worth getting. The dates with Johnny Griffin being prime examples (Way Out, Johnny Griffin Sextet). Pal Joey with just that trio is another favorite of mine. In fact that's probably my favorite rhythm section from that era...and Wilbur Ware is my all-time favorite jazz bassist.
  9. I don't understand (or like) this decision to decide which forums can or can't be edited. What is the reason for this?
  10. Finished up Battlestar Galactica 2.5, starting on Season 3.
  11. Well, this is truly depressing. Chris, I have valued your contributions to the board (and Jazz), I'm really sorry to see you leave.

  15. Joe Pass - Complete Pacific Jazz Quartet Sessions (disc one) Excellent!
  16. You're correct, what I was trying to get across was his overall "sound", which is a combination of the electronics+how he plays.
  17. Power amp distortion (instead of pre-amp distortion). db I think it's more in his fingers, his touch.
  18. The Anita O'Day set is indeed a wonderful thing. Unfortunately, I had to sell mine a few years ago.
  19. or Move Up...ala The Jeffersons.

  21. I created a test profile in Firefox and so far I've noticed that it's keeping cookies again, I'll keep playing around with it today...hopefully the problem will end up being the old profile was corrupt. Thanks for the suggestion!
  22. Did you try creating a clean test profile to see if the same problems showed up? I've seen many complaints of Firefox problems that were ultimately traced back to profiles that had somehow gotten corrupted or an add-in that decided not to play nice with a new version of FF. Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows I'll give that a shot. My weekend shifts at work were cancelled this week...so I don't have anything better to do anyway...
  23. I never had any problems until maybe a month or so ago, they've done a few updates in the interim. Maybe if I can find the installer for one of the older versions I might give it a shot. But, it's been nothing but constant headaches for weeks now. The firefox forums are burning up with people having issues similar as mine.
  24. I'm done with Firefox. It froze up and crashed my entire machine today. Then when the computer booted back up it said the file system was unstable, after running some utilities (and rebooting countless times) I finally got it back to normal. Needless to say I was less than thrilled. I then copied my favorites and un-installed it. Using IE until I can find a suitable replacement browser.
