  1. I'll be coming to check out your band in the near future...as soon as my hearing returns from SXSW.
  2. This is where I'll be this afternoon.
  3. I saw Ted back in 2000 (he was the opening act for the Kiss reunion tour), he didn't kill an animal on stage...but he does still shoot flaming arrows into his guitar amplifier.... The guy is nuttier than a wagon load of Pralines.
  4. Earthless - Rhythms From A Cosmic Sky (Tee Pee Records)
  5. Going to be a long day @ SXSW! Some day shows include Earthless, Black Math Horseman, Ancestors... Main goal tonight is to catch the Southern Lord Records showcase at Emos Wino Wolves In The Throne Room Pelican Need to stay relatively sober today....
  6. I got so drunk this afternoon I probably could have walked right over him and never noticed. I staggered to the bus stop about 4:30pm, got home at 5 and crashed out. Woke up at 8pm. I did get to see Earthless though and they were AWESOME! As is typical for them, they played a one song set lasting 40 minutes. Plus I made another neat find, a band called "Black Math Horseman" from L.A., their debut album comes out in April. Really interesting stuff, the only way I could describe it is "ambient doom". The vocalist/bassist is a girl named Sera Timms (she also directs music videos), talked to her after the show and she is very nice...and quite lovely.
  7. I'll be making the rounds of the free SXSW shows again today. Hoping to catch Earthless (psychedelic instrumental freak-out rock) at Maggie Maes this afternoon. Then probably cruise over to the "Full Metal Texas Fest" at Emos.
  8. yeah, this is just horrible. I really feel for her family.
  9. I'd enjoy whatever CD issues you get, I don't think the format has much life left in it. I've pretty much written it off unless it's a current living artist who can benefit from my purchasing their full price album. Other than that, I'll stick to used bins, LPs and the occasional blog for stuff that will never be reissued.
  10. yeah, like i can concentrate on what he's saying, yelling or not, with your signature photo staring me in the face. Yeah, Brubeck cleavage is great, especially Time Out with it's massive swinging boobs and Blue Rondo always makes me want to rub my face between them.
  11. I read that the BMG Music Club is going away...is Yourmusic not far behind?
  12. I like that Blakey album, it's not essential...but it is worthwhile. That's one I would definitely pick up (if I wasn't broke).
  13. By the end of the day tomorrow, I will have actually worked 44 hours this week! Plus I already have two more temp jobs lined up for Monday and Tuesday. It's a small victory, but I'll take 'em however I can get 'em.
  14. In many cases songs being too short can be a hindrance with jazz records, but for some reason it doesn't bother me here. I like the tight focus of the arrangements. Sometimes you can say alot in 3 minutes if you do it well. Griff's solo on Little Susan being an excellent case in point.
  15. I find myself amazed by this album every time I hear it. Yet, it seems to be an "under the radar" title, or am I wrong on that? The writing and arrangements are damn near brilliant (IMHO) and everyone plays beautifully, Griffin and Sulieman are standouts. It's also a very cohesive album, it feels like a concept instead of just another blowing session of the time. Very Ellington-esque, but unique. Anyway, thoughts?
  16. Wow, that song works great as an improv vehicle.
  17. I didn't vote, because I like everyone on that list. Now if Bill Evans had been a choice....
  18. Kiss my ass Beardsley.
  19. In the parlance of today's youth - OMFG! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIC-nJRcgeU&
  20. This is awesome, if it's been posted before then by all means WATCH IT AGAIN!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWqBP73W4vM...feature=related
