  1. I have no idea what demographic they thought this album cover would appeal to?
  2. Opeth - Damnation Heard this album for the first time last night and was quite impressed. It was produced by Steve Wilson from Porcupine Tree (who also plays mellotron on it). Very melodic and expertly crafted (no death metal vocals on this album, in fact there's almost no distortion used at all on the guitars). emusic has it but it's missing a track.
  3. I got their latest album from emusic and really enjoy it, thanks for the recommendation!!!
  4. Kenny Burrell - Up The Street, 'Round The Corner, Down The Block (Fantasy F-9458)
  5. We're very close to being the same age, I can't remember the month that album was released but I turned 16 in August of that year. It's still amazing to realize that Master Of Puppets went triple platinum and reached #30 on the Billboard charts...and at that time they had no radio airplay, no videos and were writing 8 minute songs. That was also the first metal album I remember music critics really tripping over each other to praise. Groundbreaking in several aspects.
  6. Thanks for the information Chris. I had read that he was a tennis pro but never knew he was a musician and club owner. I've seen interviews with him (in the Metallica documentary) and he seems like a very interesting guy. He also looks quite good for being in his 80's.
  7. Allen, I hope you had a nice birthday, and I pray that you find some happiness.
  8. In 1983 I bought a tiny independent release called "Kill 'Em All", from a band that I had never heard of...it was to change my life forever. They were as underground as you can possibly get, they were mirror images of their fans, they became more of a religion to their fans than just a band. No matter if you hate them, love them or are ambivalent about them...they deserve the honor and are truly an original. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jz96Ry4pUg Extra special props to Lars for mentioning Dexter Gordon & Miles in his speech...and for James listing off many of the other hard rock & metal bands that SHOULD ALREADY BE IN THE HALL OF FAME!
  9. I'm always searching for some good trim.... Sorry, couldn't resist. (WTF is this?)
  10. Not jazz, but I remember reading that Ken Hensley from Uriah Heep did some modifications. He did some studio work in the 80's, I read that when he showed up at the studio the first thing he did was to start tinkering with the rented organ until it sounded like he wanted it. Sorry I don't have any more information than that...his sound is similar to Jon Lord, so I'm guessing he also ran the organ through a Marshall.
  11. I used to use Works all the time but I haven't had a copy for years. The first question: There should be an option to save the form as a template. (probably in the file menu) I can't remember the steps for the second question, but try a google search on "MS works instructions".
  12. i actually didn't want to admit it but i was holding the dope!! Which one?
  13. http://members.shaw.ca/skytower/Reg%20Isidore%20Page.htm R.I.P.
  14. I'm working my way through the entire Fawlty Towers series (I've seen it countless times but it still slays me).
  15. You can go with me, I'll get them to incorporate a tenor solo. That means a potential tax break, right? Do what Chuck Berry does, write off your tenor as "tools".
  16. You can go with me, I'll get them to incorporate a tenor solo.
  17. Anyone here familar with any Hammond players based out of San Diego? I've been talking with a S.D. rock band about adding an organist to one of their future recording projects, I want to make sure the player is the "real deal". Thanks.
  18. What dead jazz musician did you commune with at the seance last night?
  19. This album is just completely off the hook.
  20. Working my way through the first season of "Damages".
  21. I probably saw about 30 different bands this past week...probably fills my quota for a bit.
  22. I saw Earthless three times this week (though I didn't catch the J Mascis gig), I got to spend a good amount of time hanging out with Isaiah (guitarist), he's a very cool laid-back guy.
